Well its between the samsung, benq and the dell they all have s-pva panels??? Or am i mistaken?

However the samsun is about £100 cheaper than both the benq and the dell and seems to have slighty better specs.

EDIT: Ah i see dell uses s-vpa but the samsung is still TN right?

The BenQ that is fp241W and fp241vw are both P-MVA panels. They're 8bit like the S-PVAs. I was under the impression that TNs were 6bit?

Dell makes great monitors.

But bear in mind that if you order a Dell 24" then you have no idea whether you'll get a S-IPS or an PVA. i.e. a flip of the coin between good and excellent. Interestingly though the Dell 3007 30" only uses a S-IPS and is about half the price of the Apple 30". That looks like a real bargain. For 23" or 24" monitors the Apple is still a resonable buy because you know you're getting a S-IPS and if you buy it with your Mac Pro you can add the 3 year warranty for the same price. That said, I'd wait a few days to see if they update the monitor during Macworld.

I thought all the dell 24" was s-pva, doesn't say they use s-ips panels at all how do you know this? and why would they use different ones in the same model?

The Dell 24" is only PVA. The panel lottery was for the 2007WFP model. It was only fairly recent that we began to see 24" IPS panels.

This is the second time you have said this, and it is wrong. There is ZERO chance of getting an S-IPS panel if you buy a Dell 2407WFP, either the HC version or the non-HC version.

Further, there is more to a display than its panel. So while the 30" from Dell and Apple have the same panel, the Apple will offer better color and more clarity in my experience. That is not to say they shouldn't be updating them or dropping the price sometime soon. I am far from saying they are in all cases worth the price, so please don't accuse me of that offense.

Thanks for clearing that up.

So would you say the Dell 2407WFP-HC is a good buy, the pva screens are suppose to be much better than the TN?

I was thinking of waiting for apple but 1) I don't reacon they will update the displays and 2) They will still be expensive.

I can get the Dell 2407WFP-HC for just under £400 I don't think apple will be matching that anytime soon?

I would say it is a good buy. And yes, PVA panels are way ahead of TN panels. There are hints of a 2408WFP soon, which will get an updated styling, like that of the 2707WFP. Which is much more Apple like with the brushed metal.

I think it is possible for Apple to update the displays. Which is why I am waiting til Macworld. If they don't for me, the expense of a 30" ACD is worth it. If they update, all the merrier.

Could Apple match that? Not if they continue to use IPS panels. If you feel you don't need the IPS, sure go for the Dell.

Thanks, do you know if the iMac 24" have s-ips panels?
