I always hated the board game Monopoly because it is a very simple game that nonetheless takes 2-3 hrs (or longer) of torturous boredom to get through.
The iPad implementation is great though! Very slick presentation, but most importantly the games are over a lot quicker because the computer takes care of all the banking (making change etc) for you - although one might argue that this removes the most important educational benefit for young children from the game.

This is so true. It is night and day.

Also, IGNORE my previous post please. I complained about the luck factors in Monopoly but after playing with the IPad app I must say that I am totally obsessed again.

It is so much fun to play other people via ipad and to add AI players into the mix. This also greatly decreases the luck factor of playing with 2 players. NOw you can exploit the much lesser intelligence of the AI and its a free for all to see who can wheel and deal the best.

This is a truly great app and I cannot believe that some people are calling it too noisy. Really? I do not find it to be over-animated at all. It is super streamlined out of the box imo.

Thanks to Appshopper, just been told that Monopoly will be reduced in price by 50% to £2.99 in the UK store.

Can imagine quite a few more pissed off EA customers who bought at full price.

Now, wonder if it'll come down to 59p...

* update: Risk, FIFA 11 and Game Of Life reduced as well.

** update 2: just noticed price updates not in store yet. Very strange!

*** update 3: price reduced in US store, but not UK (as yet).

Have to disagree there. It all depends on who you play with. I had many a good time with my siblings trying to beat out my father. Same with my friends. I guess it depends on the time you grew up. We had no electronic frontier. Life, Monopoly, Trouble, Sorry etc. is all we had and we had fun.

I'm waiting to buy it too.

But I refuse to pay full price in the UK when it's been cut to half price in the US.

I don't appreciate being treated this way and expected to pay double what others are paying.

I can wait.

Same here, I'll happily buy it when we get the same price as the US, not paying twice as much!

I totally agree with you. I think the game is slick and really fun to play. I've seen the same reviews as you on iTunes, and I can only figure that they must be talking about the iPhone version, because they complain about the animations blocking the board so you can't see where your piece moves. That's certainly not true of the iPad version.

It's interesting reading threads like this because I've been a hobbyist gamer for 30 years now, and within hobbyist circles Monopoly is infamous as being a very flawed game design... or perhaps simply as a design that is over a century old and just not up to the design evolution that exists in boardgaming these days.

It's unfortunate that the app store doesn't allow us to filter out games that are actually board games that have been ported to the iPad, but this listing over at boardgamegeek.com does a great job of summing up what is out there that comes from recent boardgame game design:

iPad Board Games: Multiplayer and Available Now

Nice link, thanks.

Still no sign of the mighty Talisman making the leap onto iPad (or even iPhone).
