Signal Strength

I did some more searching and found some reviews where people say the case definitely reduced their signal strength. If you are in a good area there is not a problem, but if you are in a weaker area there is a noticeable difference. Also, didn't realize it wasn't MFI certified, which is a concern.

I asked maxboost support if it works with iOS 7 and they said it will. But IDK if I believe that. We will all have to wait. If your home just take the case off and put a different one on. That's what I do.

Can you take a screen shot with the case on and off to show the difference in service strength.

i got the mophie air last week and im very impressed with it performance!! i can get from 20 to 80% (that how mophie suggest you use it) and then i still have enought to get it from 20 to 80% again!!! that is pretty much 120% which is 20% more than mophie says it has :)

It appears that most people who purchased a Mophie opted for the Air over the Plus (or the Helium). Given the similar sizes and weights, is there a reason to choose the Air over the Plus (other than cost)?

The pro is to expensive I would think.

A lot of people bought the Air before the Plus was available. The Helium came out literally 2 weeks before the Air and as such a bunch of folks (myself included) returned the Helium for the Air. Not to mention that Best Buy and a few other retail stores actually had more Air cases than Heliums.

Money is a factor in the Plus, but the availability of them is another. The one other factor is that the Air now covers the buttons and offers more protection than the previous iterations of the case. I bought a Plus for my iPhone 4 mainly because it offered better protection. I needed the power too but I could have gone with an Air for my iPhone 4. The covered buttons and impact band were a deciding factor for me.

I'll probably upgrade to a Plus here in a month or two as iOS7 has been killing my battery. If Apple doesn't work out the battery issues then I'll be forced to get a Plus. Oddly, even though it is a little bigger, I tried a Plus at Best Buy and actually think it feels better in the hand than the Air. Better grip.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I appreciate it.

I was comparing the Air and Plus in the store yesterday, and the Plus felt noticeably heavier to me. I probably wouldn't notice once I started using it after a couple of days, but I noticed it then.

What's steering me toward the Air is the fit and finish. At least one review I found indicated that the Air button overlays worked better –

I think the plan for today is to try the Air and see how I get through the day. I've been running out of battery as early as 4pm, depending on the day. In the past I've always been able to do a midday charge, but that hasn't been the case lately.

P.S. On a related note, have you ever considered any of the microUSB docks (such as the ones for the Galaxy S4)? I use a couple of Belkin lightning docks now and they work great and I'd like something similar for the iPhone in the Mophie case. I haven't been able to determine from my research online whether any microUSB docks will work with the Mophie, and haven't seen any in person yet to test.

@PatrickNSF

I would assume a dock would work for charging if the device would fit in. It won't sync though. You can't sync through the microUSB which kind of sucks but it is what it is.

The Plus was heavier when I tried it on too but I doubt it would be an issue. It was much lighter than the iPhone 4 variant I used for almost two years but that is preference. The buttons seemed the same when I put my phone in though the Air has a smooth plastic band around the sides of the phone (the area where the buttons are) so they are a little easier to find if that makes sense. It is a little too slippery for my tastes on the edge but that is really my only complaint when using the case for the past several months.

The Air has held up suprisingly well overall though it is a fingerprint magnet on the black one that I have. Really lightweight and pretty durable so far. It has taken a couple pretty bad falls and survived with little to no damage. One was even while I was skating (I still skate in my 30's, don't judge me). Good case and worth the money in my book. I didn't like the others I tried. The Mophie works well.

@rapaleeman - Thanks, again, for the help. I've been using a fairly light case so the weight with either Mophie will be an issue. I've been carrying a battery pack in my messenger bag this week and charging the iPhone when needed but that's been tedious. So I'll need to make due with the weight.

What is the outer band like on the Plus? I guess I didn't pay enough attention, but from what I'm reading now it seems more rubberized than on the Air? I'll have to pay closer attention when I compare them today.

As for the dock, I'm fine with wifi syncing, but it would be great to have a place to dock the iPhone with Mophie attached when I walk in the door. I also like having a dock on my nightstand. So, at this point, it's just a size issue and making sure the microUSB connector of the dock can reach onto the Mophie port when docked.

The Juice Pack Plus has a rubberized band. The feel is more rubbery in terms of grip and it has some drop protection because of it. Seems a little more solid to me but it is a little thicker and slightly heavier. An ok tradeoff for the extra power though.

@rapaleeman - Went back to the Verizon store and based on what you pointed out, ended up with the Plus. It was the rubberized band that sealed the deal. Given the extra heft of the iPhone with either case, the band actually improved the grip. The size and weight differences seemed to be things I'd notice while comparing the cases side-by-side, but wouldn't notice in day-to-day use.

Thanks, again, for the help. Now I just need to find a dock.

;)

ive use the iphone 5 ibattz mojo refuel case, i will tell you it gives you all the power you'll ever need! you get a cable and charger port for you battery. you can always have a battery charge and pick it up on the go! power isn't the problem its how heavy the case is, also the cut outs are deep a hustle sticking my finger in to reach my power button and for volume too, the headphone hole is deep you can squeeze your headphones in with your finger. it gets annoying after a while, it takes about 6-7 hours to charge it up if you wanna use the cable. it doesn't charge at the same time. i constantly take the case off just to feel more comfortable while im at home. with the ibattz you can sync when you connect your cable to your mac or pc. the case also charges your phone super fast.

just tried the maxboost with ios7 beta 6 and it didnt work with my phone..for one it lost signal..only wifi worked..1x a little too when i always get LTE..got the error message that popped up ...as soon as the screen shut off it also stopped charging..gonna have to try mophie now. sending back.. case felt great too..too bad.

i usually get LTE at work..after the case I got NO SERVICE and 1x ..so it was definitely reducing signal...also not being MFI certified was affecting it on IOS 7 beta 6

What exactly happens when you try to charge your iPhone with the maxboost battery case? Does an error message come up saying that its not compatible but it still charges or something?

It says this device is not compatible then you touch the dismiss button ..it then charges for a little and stops charging.

Ended up buying the mophie..no issues..no errors and perfect cell reception

Mophie vs Maxboost vs iBattz Mojo Refuel for iphone 5?

Can anyone else confirm that the maxboost case does not work / works on iOS 7? I just want to know if it is a widespread issue and not just happening for one person.
Thanks for your input kowen.

I really liked the case too You don't have reception issues?

If your talking to me,
I don't have reception issues since. I have good reception/no issues with reception using the maxboost battery case. I heard if you are in low signal area you get even lower signal with the battery case on.

I don't think it's an iOS7 issue. I've gone through two Maxboost Atomic cases. The first one was DOA and the second failed after a month. It just stops charging properly because of the port on the case. I'm on iOS7 but I started using the first one on iOS6 and that was the one that was dead on arrival and had to be sent back. Second one on iOS7 now doesn't work properly anymore.

I'm debating on getting a mophie juice pack air now.

More than great reviews. It's 5 star product literally on amazon. Lol. It also has a 1 year warranty from uNu. I will let you know after I get it in a week or 2. I am in the process of return the Maxboost case to amazon by UPS.
