Very strange why only now they are applying for this

Normally Mophie are quite quick off the ball and designing their battery cases

Why has it taken so long...

According to the Wireless Consortium page (https://www.wirelesspowerconsortium.com/products/details/2398/juice-pack-air-for-iphone-x), the mophie case is a "Power Class 0 Receiver", with a "Maximum received power" of 5W.

For comparison, mophie's "wireless charging base" is listed as a "Power Class 0 Transmitter" (https://www.wirelesspowerconsortium.com/products/details/2225/mophie-wireless-charging-base).

So, the battery case itself gets charged wirelessly ("receiver"), and the case charges the iPhone (presumably) through the lightning port.

I wonder how Morphie (and battery cases in general) are doing this year, what with Apple offering $30 battery replacements...

In the past, that was the reason I bought a battery case. Went 2-3 years without a case, then put on a battery case to get another year or two out of the phone before replacing it. This time around, I'm just replacing the battery on my 6+ and expect to use it case free for another year or two before replacing the phone entirely...

I think the market for iPhone battery cases is going to die for just those reasons. The X gets such good battery life and wireless charging is so easy, that I think there will be less need for them as well. Mophie may sell enough of these, but there won't be as many as in prior years.

They’re never quick. iPhone 6 took 4 months. iPhone 7 was the same physical shape as the 6 with the only difference being the camera area. That one took 3 months. Now we’re on the X and it’s been 4 months now and not a single word directly from them regarding any case. They’re notoriously slow getting their product out.

Mophie (and even Belkin) was once the king pin Apple accessories... back in 2008-2011. Time has changed.

I have used many power cases during the years and also had different brands and also no names.
With one no-name case, the mechanical battery switch was bad after about 1 year, with another case the battery died too soon. Mophie is for sure one of the more expensive options. However with the wireless force case, you can keep an older iPhone a year or two longer in operation than usual. That is a big benefit for me, especially since I do have heavy iPhone use on the road.
The other thing is the better water protection for iPhones that are not waterproof. I would have destroyed my iPhone 6 in Indonesia for sure, if I would not have had my mophie battery case with me. I also do enjoy the magnetic holder for the car interior a big deal. - This is one of the best features I think. In my opinion there is no better case out there, if you can live with a thicker and larger case. Keeping in mind that the iPhone X in Europe costs a whopping 1320 Euros, I really can justify that additional protection.

I am more than sure that Apple will release their own take (Smart Battery Case) for the iPhone X when they bring out the AirPower accessory.

Plenty of battery cases for the X on amazon that are much.. much sleeker then these.

And none of those cases are MFI approved. Apple just released the MFI guidelines for the iPhone X. That's the main reason why it takes so long for battery cases to be released

Apple should bring their battery case to the iPhone X. It's the best.

This would be a nice addition but I don't think it is necessary as iPhone X has a pretty good battery life. In fact, my battery last the whole day.

I don't understand why these products still have this ugly chin and need to connect to the lightning port.

Now that we have Qi charging, I expect battery packs to be able to feed power inductively. No one wants a product that looks like this.

Seriously, the battery on the iPhone X is so fantastic that I can’t see the market for battery cases being that high in demand. Having had to deal with my iPhone 6 Plus’ battery running out mid day, the iPhone X’s battery seems impossible given the size of its screen and internal power. I’ve just stopped having battery anxiety and often don’t even care to plug it in overnight. It’s amazing. A quick 30 minute charge brings it to 80% and a full charge will last me all day so I can’t see iPhone X users ever needing a battery case unless their work requires uninterrupted all day use.

I like the dual purpose it serves, a case and a battery charger all in one. I'll have to check out the reviews from those who already them.

I have owned a version of this case since the iPhone 4.
THEY ARE THE WORST!
Cheep protection and corruption of battery on original phone is all I ever experienced. And all within the first 6 months using.(And I don't abuse my phones)
Not to mention the mini USB port if I wanted that I would of bought an Android.
Fast forward to a Xmas 2016 gift, a no name with an Apple connection and a kickstand support.
At less than 50.00 it's still going strong after 2 years.

That's not possible, you need the space for batteries. There's not all of a sudden some magic technique that can shrink batteries.
I had a case last year for my 7 Plus that was very thin and it almost doubled my battery life.

Some of these replies make me incredulous. iPhone X best battery life? Being on iOS 11 is killing mine - I've never seen worse battery drainage on a phone. My iPhone 6s Plus battery lasted far longer than my current iPhone X does.

As for cases, I like my apléos gear iPhone X Battery Charger case - 3000 mAh battery, AND it has a Lightning connector - my in-ear Westone UM2s using the nice small 1/8"-to-Lightning adapter work perfectly with it! Unfortunately they yanked it from Amazon due to a "design flaw" with rubber around the Lightning connector. Hopefully a new & improved model will replace it, but I'm not holding my breath.

I have many users that use battery cases. They are away from power and on their phone A LOT. So as someone said it is a niche market, but there are people out that that need them.

That is some heavy usage to jam through an iPhone X. But I guess some folks do it. And, of course, if you are in bad cell coverage that will drain your battery.
