Does anyone think that the new Nano is a little big? I think it's too big to be a Nano....maybe it's a redesigned Classic?

Yes. I am also familiar with the term sarcasm...

well next time done say something like that then people wont second guess you

I really hope the new touch will slice bread and even butter it too...
yeah and cut our selves up. no thanks

Waiting for Apple to add it to the Shuffle....

No...

(sarcastic, sarcasm....)

well we didnt think the nano could be this small and wide with the fatty came out next year now did we?

U-g-l-y

All I keep thinking is that this new Nano is ugly and awkward. IF the two different cases (and the mock-up photo) are real, it'll take a bit for me to understand Apple's thinking on this.

I would accept a small multi-touch based iPod.. that's moving forward. But this possible wide-screen, click-wheel Nano just doesn't sit right with me yet.

I'm telling you guys,
Top right opening on the Touch case= Speaker, baby.

No! Its definitely not for a speaker. The iPod Touch is ULTIMATELY AN iPod and seeing that no iPod till date features a speaker.... neither will the touch! Besides... it'll just go on to add more size to the iPod and the 'impossibly thin' logo will be lost!

Oh... come on.. We criticized the 'fatty' nano in a much greater degree! And later when it was launched.... let me remember... "You cant behold the beauty of the product unless you hold it in your hands" - Gizmodo/engadget/Cnet

This is Apple we're talking about and there's no need to worry (at least about DESIGN). So take a chill pill and relax! Its gonna be a wonderful September!:D

wah wah wah. the iphone has a speaker... just because one product doesnt have them yet doesnt mean new ones wont.

I forone want the ipods to have an external speaker. so we can share with friends,,,,, no need to share headhpones...

Yeah, sure. "The iPod is ULTIMATELY AN iPod and seeing that no iPod till date features a multi-touch screen... neither will the new iPods. Besides, it'll just make the iPod s much bigger!" (Last year, this day)

And then the touch came out. What happened to new features? What's wrong with speakers? Adding 1 or 2 mm isn't going to hurt. It's still going to be thin. The iPhone has a speaker but just a little thicker. Again, why can't it have a speaker? New features right?

There obviously is a reason apple went back to the old form-factor. The 'fatty' nano was a nice design but there's got to be some underlying technology to this new design; then again, the nano always gets radically re-designed with each generation. I'm still not sold on the curved front, but I'm sure in person it will look great - hopefully they don't drop the dock connector, though.

i would actually like a smaller dock connector. like a mini usb.

I don't want speakers. iPods are personal listening devices, they fill up your world with music, leaving others unannoyed.

Imagine all of the kids blaring music in the park, on the train or on the street like they already do with they're cell phones.

And if i want to share with someone, I do want to give them an earphone, it gives you a bond, a conversation starter.

It's like jobs once said about the Zune, you don't want to squirt a girl your music, you want to share your music experience by giving her an earphone, think about that, by sharing an earphone with someone, you've started a positive relationship.

Oh and by the way those "nano's" are on ebay under "generic mp3's" with the little strap thingy's

(Braces self for tl;dr's)

I saw a couple walking down an aisle in a store the other day doing just this on a cheap cell phone. Actually blaring the damn thing as loud as it could go with the woman holding it on her shoulder like a 1982 Boombox. I walked right past them within two feet and still could not make out the song, just tinny, shrilly garbage. The saddest thing is that they looked like they were enjoying it. The whole situation bothered me.

I really doubt there can be a acceptable sounding speaker come from such a small device anytime soon. It is a joke and I think that Apple can see this and would not subject any of their products to that treatment as of yet.

By the way, what happened to the iPod Hi-Fi? :D

Things look to be heading in the right direction for this uber fugly Nano to be real and on Apple shelves soon after to the back to school promo.

Clearly shows that Apple engineers are either on vacation, or are smoking crack and shooting up.

All you people who cry "fake" or "fugly" or "ugly fake" are probably going to love the thing as it is when it comes out.

Definitely the ugliest thing ever. Uglier than the Zune in fact. I'd rather have a brown $h!t smelling Zune.

I think that this nano and the Zune both look fine. Definitely nicer than the hideous square nano. (also less usable, because of the awkwardly placed hold switch). It does, however, seem strange that Apple would go to a design that many other PMP makers have already done. Not to mention the fact that they are returning to the stick-styled nano.

Not me. I am still looking for a working not too bad looking 1st gen Nano. The best looking of the bunch.

In my opinion, the second gen nano was the best looking of the nanos. It was a sexy, silm version of the Mini.

front slit: physical play/pause button? or mute?

if it is a camera and or speaker, i will be sad. B/c i am sticking with my 32gb touch, and those were the two features i wanted when i bought it.

Ditto with the 2nd gen nano. Slimmer and less scratchable then the first gen. the first gen was nice, but the mini-design has to be one of the nicest.

and the zune flash and long-nano-rumor aren't ugly. they seem practical, unlike the fat nano right now. if they incorporate some type of accelerometer to go along with the click wheel (a la newer motorola phones switching from media to phone modes) it'd be fine, and preferably only for viewing videos. Digital skunk sounds like a cranky old man who can't accept that change can be good.

While a speaker in an iPod sounds like a good idea, as others have said, such a small speaker would sound terrible and make the iPod seem tacky. iPods are all about looking and feeling like quality products, and that is why I think Apple won't put a speaker in an iPod.

Speakers in mobile phones are absolutly awful. If iPods ever did get a speaker, I imagine it would be a very quiet one, and only for use with apps.

Nothing really new or surprising then. I have never really understood some things the mini/nano crew at Apple came up with:

Mini to 1st gen nano:

- They went from an all-around anodized aluminum case to plastic front and polished chrome back, prone to fingerprints and scratches
- They went from friendly vernal colors to black/white, no colors
- They moved the headphone jack from the top to the bottom (granted... this is because of the form factor)

2nd gen nano to 3rd gen nano:

- They went from small and slim to fat, ugly and ridiculed
- They went from anodized aluminum to the scratch-prone polished chrome AGAIN (cause it's cheaper, right?)
- They went from offering a pink one to not offering a pink one AGAIN. Common Apple! Anybody could have told you that this one's popular with the girls...

Obviously the touch is like that for the sensors, the big one on the right top corner is the other side for the wi-fi signal and the small is an ambient light sensor:apple:

I'm sorry but I don't get that. Is that opening on the front of that supposed ipod touch 2 case for wi-fi? If so then what is on the back? Do you think they would incorporate a 3G antenna for use with a data only plan? :)
