Before the iMac, the iPod, the iPad, there was the iSlave. 11 years old, works for gruel. And Steve's (love calling a billionaire by his first name) cool connect with all his iFans.

a glass or manufacturing process delays

Are these people serious? "A glass or manufacturing process delays"? Forgive me if I don't believe these idiots who can't even copy edit their own reports.

Yup - I've just spoken to Apple UK and the iPad has been delayed (in the UK) till late June/July.

unless you're an "analyst" trying to manipulate stock, in which case you wouldn't bother to fact check, check out press releases from Jan 27:

"We now know that Apple will introduce its iPad tablet device in 60 days in the U.S., and 90 days for the 3G versions. We also learned that the international version will be available some time in June, expect to see the iPad hit the UK by the end of that month."

As a former AppleCare agent / Mac Genius, I can tell you unequivocally that the rep has no prior knowledge of launch dates. At most, they'll get some web-based iPad training, but 99% of the time we were accessing the same information publicly available on the Apple website.

Unless the website changes, don't panic!

The rumored iPad delays are probably because of all the allegations about worker treatment. No more eighteen hour days. seven days a week. And they probably had to let all the kids go, or at least cut them back to part time.

The Apple UK website begs to differ.

Don't buy first wave!

This is a clear signal that they are having quality problems. I would not buy the first wave as much as I would like to have the product. Who knows what "minor" problems they are letting out the door just so they can launch in March?

It will be just like the iMac launch; mostly OK but with a large subset of users with some kind of semi-major issue (yellow screens, drive noise).

Because the original hardware had space for camera, the SDK has programming for camera.... I wonder if manufacturing delays were because cameras were added to the mix before launch...

I am speculating but I expect a pre launch meeting that announces new MB pro's with i7's and SURPRISE! camera's in the iPADs.

Would love to see it, but it is highly unlikely. Apple is not the kind of company that makes a design decision and then changes it last minute because a handful of people think it should be so. If it didn't have a camera in it at the announcement, you can pretty much bet it won't when it goes on sale.

Attempted stock manipulation, pure and ugly.

So these "analysts" want us to believe that Apple will only have 200.000-250.00 units ready for a worldwide release of the most eagerly awaited gadget since the iPhone? That is total BS! Here's a bit of simple math for ya': Apple had 286 Apple Stores worldwide as of February 2010. If we believe these "analysts" and put the number at 225.000 units, that means that each Apple Store will only have 786 iPads for sale on release day! None for online sale, none for other Apple resellers, none for ATT stores, that is just to stock Apple's own retail stores! Puleeease! Who do you think you are kidding with these bogus numbers?

These socalled "analysts" are nothing but cynical stockmanipulators trying to seed a rumor that will bring the APPL stock down a notch or two prior to the iPad's release, and then buy cheap APPL stock like crazy.

Once the iPad hits the market as planned and Apple sells half a million iPads in the first week, the APPL stock will soar and our "analyst" friends sell their stock at a self-induced profit.

It's simple, it's ugly, and it happens alle the time with Apple's stock.

I'd check history on that one if I were you, I'm sure last minute changes happened with the iPhone?

Guys, I just talked to Steve over some grilled salmon and rice pilaf, and he said the iPad will be shipping in 5 days.

This might be Apple's doing

They do research themselves (obviously) and if their research tells them that the demand is less then their original projections then they will ramp down accordingly.

Any kind of ramp-down might appear like this in the media, as Apple is not going to divulge the research results.

After all, this iPad is controversial in spite of all the hype.

There's no proven market niche for this type of thing except as a reader. Amazon was very conservative with their projections for the Kindle ,which led to huge shortages at launch. Their own in house research must of led them to believe that demand would be such.

we shall see

Anyway, it's a world of spin

+1

I agree with this. If there is indeed a shortage of iPads, then this is nothing more than an Apple marketing ploy.

Isn't funny how Apple are the only manufacturer in the world to conduct a public investigation into the working practices of their contractors, have publicly revealed those findings, are now working to resolve all issues and are still be criticised?

Apple weren't revealed to be doing anything bad, they found out themselves and told the world about it, and have promised to sort the issues. Hardly a reason to criticise.

Maybe we can get a REAL SLATE computer, not a BIG iPod TOUCH!?!!?:D

Maybe we could get a flying car? The iPad isn't supposed to be one of those either. Maybe if you don't understand what this product is, you shouldn't make stupid comments.

International Availability...

It will be available in UK in late march (3g version in April), same as USA same as Germany....

It was in the Keynote as well as it is on Apples .uk .de websites!!

Steve made a June statement at the Keynote which was regarding to 3G (UMTS) deals with cell providers in other countries than the USA....
They plan to have them ready for June July timeframe...

But shipping will be same date europe and USA....That is what they said at least.

Edit: Apple Store employees dont know s*** about launch dates.

What do analysts say about delayed MacBook Pro's?

How can a product that hasn't been announced and doesn't have a launch date be 'delayed'. Maybe because the current configuration is less than 12 months old, there is no need for an update?

Sounds like someone is trying to push Apple for some more information since not much has been said since Steve Jobs presentation. You know, got to get the scoop. Apple will never cave though.

Ditto that! Finally someone talking sense.

The idea that Apple would slap a camera into the iPad as a last minute "surprise" is absolutely ridiculous.

Guys, please, go and inform yourselves a bit about how large scale productions work. This ain't Steve and Jony handbuilding iPads in a garage, m'kay?
Tools and moulds for the iPad have been made MONTHS ago, as have the internal engineering and design. You can't just "add" something like a camera to an existing design without having to change the whole production line! After making a camera-version they would then have to have another lengthy period of testing and bug-fixing. On top of that they would have to change all the PR material and documentation for the product, manuals, product photos, packaging, homepage info, press material, everything!

Sorry, but the idea of a "surprise camera" on the iPad is a non-starter.
griz is absolutely right; what you've seen is what you get. Live with it.

So just what the heck does "our checks" mean?

They always say that. "Our checks in Asia indicate the foam packing peanuts aren't staying in the boxes." Or something like that.

"Our Checks," more correctly spelled, "How Shek" is a bar girl who works just outside the factory gates in China. She can find out anything you want to know.

just out of curiosity, have you seen the FCC filings? If not, how do you know what was submitted? You are possibly just a wrong as the other guy is right. Steve demoed a prototype. It's a protoype because you can't buy the ones displayed. Just saying, maybe we shouldn't be so absoulte in our statements. People didn't even know what the ipad looked like until Steve showed it. Who knows what they have been cooking up?

Then you must have been eating the grilled salmon. I'm not sure Steve wold even pick up the check with dead flesh on it.
