i just joined now to respond to this thing about walmart because i actually work in a connection center in the eau claire walmart here in wisconsin... and i was going to write this big response... but i thought.. why.. im happy where im at... and i dont need to battle people who think walmart is the end of the world.. so.. if you hate walmart that bad.. good for you... continue buying the same crap i buy at walmart... for way less than you pay for it... ive already sold a few iphones... people are excited that we do carry it.

?

$3?

ill pay the extra $3 premium and buy it from somewhere else.
i dont shop at walmart for the exact reason you just posted.
you dont see any harm in saving a buck or two as all the mom and pop shops around you close down.

on a different note. most of the things i buy you cant get at walmart.

The mom and pop shops analogy can be compared to BestBuy/Comp USA. Comp USA didn't survive because people preferred to shop at BestBuy. Also, CircuitCity is in the same boat now and may not survive the year. Should I feel bad about them? No. The strongest stores who can adapt survive. There is nothing wrong with Wal-Mart.

i dont compair compUSA and circuit city as a mom and pop shop. to me those are still as big of a business as best buy. your analogy of an analogy is skewed if you believe what you just said is true.

a mom and pop shop are locally owned businesses.
something such as a grocery store cant be considered a mom and pop store now a days because of the overwhelming super markets all around the place.

so what you are assuming i am referring to is wrong.

and again. ill take my $3 premium to someplace else...like the apple store.

your right with the $2 difference... its not a lot. but in the case in my area.. the nearest apple store is in minnesota in the cities... which is an hour and a half away from here... so walmart is all they have. but the majority of the prices in our store are WAY below many competitors... just not with apple products... because they will not allow us. of course we do have ATT retail locations they could go to... but do you know how many customers i have come in everyday telling me how horrible they were treated at them... and come in and sign a phone up with me? its unbelievable. of course its not going to be the same in all areas... but whats wrong with walmart carrying it? its not going to hurt anyone... its just more ways to spread the disease... and if you dont shop at walmart.. thats your personal choice and i respect that... but a lot of people do.. so its just good news for those people.

The problem is Walmart cheapens everything they touch. Walmart = trash.

And lets not even begin to discuss their labor and supply chain practices.

I recall a few years back some buddies and I went on a fishing trip in Arkansas. We needed some supplies so we drove into town. The town seemed to be dead....empty storefronts, litter on the streets, etc. We asked an attendant at a gas station where we could find some groceries and he directed us to the Walmart. We said we'd rather shop somewhere local. Of course, he says "nothing around here anymore 'cept Walmart."

So off to the Walmart we went. We immediately saw the problem. Inside the sliding doors out front was a bulletin board that compared their weekly circular with those of "competitors." which in this case, were mom and pop shops from the surrounding towns.

>>>Yeah it definitely cheapens the brand in the same way its cheapened the ipod line.
------------

...or else you look at it as increasing WAL Mart's sophistication
What next? $200 bottles of 1957 Dom Perinon? joke

No. This good it gets the APPLE brand name out to J6P.

MS is faltering-their ZOON keeps upping the ante of free stuff which is a clue.
If Apple could come out with a working x86 version of OS 10-it would be over

With the large group of hackers-they my be forced to;
people will still buy Mac-in fact a lot more will when they see how cool OS X is-they are just so much cooler to look at and use
'product experience migration' the marketers call it

I havent heard about COSTCO

I do think walmart is the root of all evil, but that doesn't mean that I think the people who work at the walmart stores are evil. I think you guys work way too hard and should be paid a hell of alot more. One of the reasons why I don't like walmart that much is because of the way they treat their employees. I have heard nothing but bad things. If your store is the exception than thats totally awesome. Keep up the good work.

They already sell iPods at WM, so this really no big deal. I am surprised that that they are not selling the iPhone at Costco. Costco already has a phone booth that sells AT&T phones/services. Also, Costco customers are vastly more affluent that the typical Wal-Mart customer. Costco sells $5,000 Swiss watches for example.
And both Wal-Mart and Target sell $2,000 TVs. What's your point?

Yeah it definitely cheapens the brand in the same way its cheapened the ipod line.
And yet this "cheapening" of the brand is also the same reason that everyone and their mother has an iPod and not any other MP3 player. You can thank this "cheapening" of the brand for Apple's record profits.

OK mods, time to lock this thread. Walmart has had the iPhone for....um...let's see...only about the last MONTH or so!! Geez. I believe we've covered everything now, and learned a lot.
