so what changes were made to the base model besides the processor swap?

i'm feeling slightly disappointed...

Just exactly what I asked for. A bit bigger HD on the more expensive white, and 1G RAM. It was worth the wait. Spanks Apple.

i think since the base model is so crap, i'm forced to get the middle one and double RAM and bump HD to 100gb.

It's a real upgrade...at least in the middle range

I bought my wife a 2.0 CD Macbook a month or so ago. I paid an extra what $150 for another 512 of Ram and left the hard drive stock. It came out to around $1450 delivered. I can now get the same machine with a faster processor for less money only a month later. Looks like a good deal to me. I already tried to buy but the store side wasn't up yet.

Welcome to the intel world...

Is the MacBook Apples first computer to jump processor generations in its first revision?

Had another look at the specs.... The Black one is just a £10, premium now not £90

I think there's now more logic to the price difference between the 2 white macbook models, but of course it's disappointing if you wanted to get that one. Before the update I was going to buy the low end white one and upgrade ram+hd, but now I don't have to, I can just buy the high end white one and that's it for me. I'm happy :D Now, I want to know, which soft case/sleeve should I order for my macbook? Looking at LaRobe, Tucano second and Incase neopreene sleeve?

first of all - to the person who wants a 100GB HD, you can only choose 80GB or 120GB.
secondly, there is no point in upgrading the base model to 1GB RAM and 80GB HD because it's almost the same price as buying the model up where they come as standard. the pricing looks odd - i doubt they will sell many of the 1.83GHz models (unless people are stupid and don't know that they need at the very least a RAM upgrade).

But the entry model is crap

I don't understand the price difference between the 1.83 and the 2.0

It is already 120 Euro to bump the RAM and HD of the 1.83 to the same level as the 2.0, not speaking about the Combo-Drive against the Superdrive (Double-Layer) and the Processor bump.

They should have released the price to 999 Euro

Who is going to buy the 1,83 model? And what happens if one does not have the money for the 2.0 model...

I think you're seeing it pretty right. Entry level's gotta be entry level in some way. And that 1G RAM in the middle on is just good to start off with. I'd say reasonable semi-minor upgrades. Though the C2D is not so minor considering the 64-bit performance. At least if you check out the MBP CD and C2D benchmarks.

Nice one for those who are on the urge to buy a new macbook :D

Missed the price match for 2 weeks :(
Buying from an Applestore means that you have a 14 days price match policy. So if anyone bought theirs within the past 2 weeks, could get a price match.

I am disappointed. I am definitely not returning back my MBP for this upgrade.

With your current set-up: MBP C2D | 15.4" Matte | 2.33GHz | 2GB | 120GB | 256MB

Why the hell would you even consider exchanging that for a MacBook? (Bank manager been in touch? :D )

I imagine it'll be a good few revisions to the MacBook to bring it up to those standards...

sorry about this(tech ignorant!)if i want to buy my mb in a regular store, can i just pay the extra cash and get iwork06 on disc etc|??

iWork is sold separately to the Macbook. It is just that they offer it as a configuration option if you buy through the webstore and in this case it comes directly installed on the computer.

So you are fine if you buy your Macbook in a store and you should be able to buy iWork there also.

I guess just about anyone who's been on the way for buying a MB but has been waiting for the processor bump.

Sorry, I meant: Who is going to buy the 1.83 model?

I had set my eye on it but with the specs as they are right now, I think it would be foolish not to go for the 2.0
However if you do not have the money it will be a tough decision.

It is odd that they make the entry model so unattractive.

I'm a bit gutted as I've had mine (2ghz) for less than a month !!! I don't really care about the C2C, but getting x2 in RAM and a bigger HD is annoying.... :(

Oh well..... It had to happen one day or another!!!

Have prices changed?
At least the entry model is still the same price.

So I think your only chance is to send it back and order a new one.... :(

I bought the "Ultra Model" (1Gb Ram, 80Gb HD) for $1449 if I remember correctly, which now costs $1299 (not taking into consideration the C2D processor).
So to answer your question, yes there is a price drop AFAIK :D
