This looks naff.

Seems Apple are starting to fall behind with their detailing - the form factor looks great but the small "Apple" touches aren't there, symmetry golden ratios etc don't seem evident.

+1
The removal of the chamfered edges further make this rumoured iPhone 6 look very pedestrian. If Apple is going to charge premium dollars (which we know they undoubtedly will), they should at least make it look like a million dollars.

I don't recall whether or not the leaked images of the iPhone 5s looked any better than the final product. Perhaps there's a final polishing stage that will give it a needed 'pop'. Because right now, it's looking very meh.

It definitely looks better colored in. That being said, I'd still prefer a different design.

I'm not digging the design of those bands but the second picture clearly shows a small bump where they suppose to be. Does this mean they can reduce the impact of the phone when it hits an hard surface besides, obviously, the antenna breaks?

Or they are at the same height as the supposed portruding camera ring?

This is the better way to do it...

Not those ugly gaps/bands/outlines.

I think it looks great, but let’s be honest here, if you refuse to buy this phone based solely on the fact that those antennae lines are there than maybe you should just stick with what you have.

95% of people will be putting this in a case anyway (I know that’s where mine will be on day 1) so who cares? Put a case on it and you won’t need to look at those antennae lines.

um..

So the antenna bands are real? Damn it. It is disgustingly ugly. It's extremely disappointing to see that Apple couldn't figure out a better design for the antenna. It is not pleasing aesthetically at all.

Disgustingly ugly? Please, refresh me on how the back of the 5/5S looked. Don't worry, I'll wait.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but how the phone looks isn't anywhere near as important as how well it functions. Some of you make it seem like these pics look as bad as some of the old Blackberrys.

Those bands are hideous.. I just had high expectations for the design of the iphone 6. I wonder if Apple read the comments about how most people on here are on the same page with the ugly antenna bands? Yes it is an improvement from the iphone 5/5s but with all those billion$ you would think that they would produce something better. Maybe the final polished product will look better or ok..

wow, all this hatin about the bands! I know I spend my day staring at the back of my phone so I can certainly understand their angst!

The bands are so ugly they must be a consequence of the laws of physics. This phone has wide bands and NFC. Previous phones had narrow bands and no NFC. So knowing how bad aluminum is for allowing the coupling of magnetic fields through, you would need some bigger gaps to let the sunshine in - I mean 14MHz magnetic coupling.

Remember - RFID / NFC doesn't really use a tuned antenna. It uses an inductor to couple a magnetic field. Just like charging your toothbrush. Stick them behind the bands and it might just work.

Design is subjective, but one of the basic principles of good design is contrast, something this doesn't have.

I suspect those who dislike the antennae bands (myself included), would be less bothered if they simply weren't so thick.

The thin antennae lines on the LG contrast the solid aluminum back creating a sense of refinement. The solid middle band on the 5s and matte finish contrasts the thinner top and bottom sections.

This mockup with thickish antennae lines are neither refined nor contrasting. No tension is created thus giving it a very staid and boring look.

I love how so many people always find things to hate about the new iPhones every year when the leaks start rolling out but come conference time the RDF will be cranked up to full blast and it won't be a problem anymore.

I expect most of the 'haters' to be lining up in droves to purchase one. Works every time.

it's been ugly to me since day 1 & still will be when it comes out. i have never nor will ever be one of those losers waiting overnight in line as well

Wonder what Tim Cook feels about these never-ending leaks. We basically know everything about the phone already, as usual. Well... we don't know how much RAM, but I am sure it will be 1 GB just for pleasure...

Apple Event.

Tim Cook takes the stage.

"I wish we could say more, but there is nothing left to say. Apple is closing up shop. Farewell".

Then everyone will be crying and begging for this.

Exactly!

I agree with you 100%. For one it looks like a mix between the iPad Air and iPhone 5/5S, which is exactly the logical next step in progression. Regardless of how it looks, performance is key.

Maybe it will look better in person, but in all these pictures, the bands appear to protrude on one or more sides, and it makes me want to see if I can peel them off. If it turns out this is real life, the phone photographs horribly and will need more airbrushing than Kate Upton to appear in close-up photos on apple.com.

Meh. I know an iPhone can't look much different than an iPhone, but I'm underwhelmed by the design. I'm not sure what more I could expect, but I guess it is what it is. Would have been nice to do something like HTC's front stereo speakers (and Moto's X+1 is rumored to have same thing) or to have ultra-slim top and side bezels. Something to shake things up.

I know Apple doesn't usually deviate from their design language, but something unexpected like the cylindrical MacPro was would have been great.
