Should have been done two months ago. What has Apple got against the mini? Why do they insist on giving it the smallest incremental updates possible. Surely this is suicide from a marketing perspective.

getting rid of the stockpile of old chips. like this.
CRONIE: Steve, we're out of 1.25 ghz G4 chips should we order some more?
JOBS: Nah, just start putting in the 1.33's that we have left over from the powerbooks, maybe we'll have another buying frenzy.

Someone knows about this!

First post ever here...

Somebody out there has got to have an answer on this. I was going this weekend to the Apple Store in San Jose to get my feet wet with OS X via the mac mini. I am ditching my Wintel machine. But I will be very upset if I buy one and then they release an upgrade to the Video or HD or Bluetooth after the 14 day return policy!!

ANY STRAIGHT SHOOTERS OUT THERE? What would you all suggest? Call all the apple stores in the bay area and hound the techs to see if any of them have 5,400 rpm drives or faster chips?

HELP! My wife finally gave me back my balls and is going to let me buy the minit but this clouds the issue!!!

Nice to meet you Matthew,

My wife is after me to get a new Mac also. She likes the mini. It's always nice to have permission. The updated Mac mini is due out next week, but no certain date as of now. The best is to just monitor apple.com.

Read the full article for yourselves. Looks like we'll see a nice update real soon :)

The problem is with Apple, what will be the definition of real soon. Just don't think it's right that there has been a leak about an announcement and still waiting. The worst is that some are ordering from the online store and getting the new 1.5. I would be afraid to take the chance though.

I just have to remember and thing patience.

i just brought new mac mini, yesterday.... what will the updated mac's have? :(

I am one of the people who bought a mini and got an updated version. I placed my order two weeks ago and got the new version. If you bought yours from a retail store you may have an older stock version.

As to the people who aren't happy with the updates buy a power mac or imac. The mac mini is a great computer for the average person who is looking to surf the web, do word processing, use iTunes, iPhoto, widgets, spreadsheets, etc. I was even suprised by how well garage band has performed on the minis (the old models). Haven't tested the new model yet as it is barely out of the box.

does this realy matter?

i have a 1.42 ghz mac mini, with 512 memeory, and that works a treat

i had! a 512 mem, 3ghz, basicly all top spec stuff which was win xp pro, and it ran super slow, my boss convinced me to buy a mac so i brought the miniafter some umming and rrring about "1.42 ghz" and he basicly told me that all the progs for mac are made by mac (well most of them) which allows the mac t run quicker on a smaller processor also it uses the UNIX system which is virtually crahs free unlike windows which still uses dos in the back ground and crashes.

so i got 1 and he was right, i got the midle of the range 1 with air port and bluetooth and i havent looked back since, so if any 1 wants to buy a full pc package (i will get it completly running lol) mail me.

but id never go back to pc of any kind unless its an apple, all non mac users dont realise this, unfortunatly the poor version of msn for mac has stubbed its superiority in convincing a pc user to buy a mac, but if that was sorted then there would be a world full of macs lol

Just got my brand new Mac Mini 2 weeks ago, and I was very plensently surprised when I clicked on the "About This Mac" button to find I had a 1.5Ghz G4 instead of the 1.42Ghz G4 plus an extra 32MB of RAM on the graphics card... Very happy with this purchase so far.

To truely make this a killer mac it needs a gigbit network card and maybe an ATI 9550 or ATI 9600 graphics card, but even with the specs it offers now it run World of Warcraft very nicely plus does everything else I need.

The one thing I do want for the Mac Mini is a remote control, please Apple release a wireless remote for iTunes/DVD Player and while you're at it maybe an iPod video would be nice.

UK Buyers:

Just noticed that the 1Gb RAM upgrade has gone from £120 to £70.01 which means its actually cheaper to get it from apple than from crucial

Custom delivery times are also now 5days when they used to be 3.

I think I will just place my order and hope that I get the upgrade and if not get an external HDD and install MacOSX on that.

i was really hoping that Apple would announce the revised Mac Mini's today. Oh well, I'm going to take my chances and order one from Apple and keep my fingers crossed. :)

I went ahead and ordered my first Mac today (top of the line mac mini with 1GB RAM). I was really happy to see the 1GB RAM dropped to $100 (I paid $90 with my discount)... My shipping time looks to be about 5days (they are still processing the order but it looks like it will be at least 5 business days). I really hope this is the updated mini, and I feel pretty confident that I am getting one of the updated ones. I will let you know...

C'mon Apple, ship me my mini!

As anyone ordered from Apple UK and got one of the new ones?

Was it BTO or a standard one.

Thanks.

Glyn.

Anyone considered that they might be getting rid of PowerBook processors?

It'd make sense, Getting rid of the old 1.33(?) PowerBook processors, and charging users for it. Oh, and getting rid of the 1.5 processors from the current generation so that they won have a huge stockpile of them left when they update tomorrow. :D

This seems to be a logical conclusion. Apple could be unloading their entire inventory of mini's before introducing the Macintel mini. After all, who would buy the old mini after the Intel chip is introduced?

Good concept. That would also placate any rumblings about the G4 mini no longer in market..

Exucse my poor memory, but does the mini use the same processors as the current PB? I know the PBs have 7447, (forget whether A or B though), G4s in them, but what exactly does the mini utilise?

Roll on tomorrow though and the new PB with 7448 G4 processor.

Fingers crossed

Well, I just ordered my mac today after not seeing anything updated on the store. I'm just going to hope for the best. Anyone order one in the US this past week or so that wasn't a 1.5? I actually got rid of my previous one to hopefully get one of these faster minis, but at least I'll get the BT and Wireless upgrades, something I didn't have previously.

Guess I'll just hold my breath for the mini to get here.

I ordered one on the 17th, should ship today. I'll let you know which one I get. Also, to avoid the restock fee if you don't get the 1.5, you can just type in the serial number on the box at support.apple.com about half-way down the page. It will say mac mini (LATE 2005) if you have on of the new ones. Here is a serial I found from someone's post on another website: YM5360V2TAC Give it a try on that website. It does in fact show up as Late 2005. At least that's what I was told. Should work, and you won't have to open the box.

edit: Also check out http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517 and scroll down to mac mini. Two models are now listed, one as mac mini (Late 2005) september 2005

Is the serial number shown at any point in the ordering process?

Also, when you find out which version you received please post confirmation of the specs and the Apple distribution center it shipped from.

The serial number is shown on the invoice you'll get in the post.

I posted about my experience with ordering an mini and getting a non-updated one in another Mac Forum thread over at https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/1812702/

A friend of mine bought one from his local Apple Store, and it was an updated one. The serial number started with YM535.

Anything later than that (i.e. last two numbers 35 or greater) should be ok.

The serial number has not been shown to me on the order status page or any emails so I will just have to wait for it to come, should be friday. I'll let you guys known which one I get, where it came from, ect.
