Hi There

Anyone in the UK got one of these upgrades, and if so, where did you get it from??

I'm desperate to join the world of the mac, but I don't want the same thing to happen as with my iPod (arrived about 10 minutes before they all became colour ....)

i just got the standard 1.42 with combo drive. and im plenty happy with it.

if it was me i would be happy with what i get as long as the spec isnt less than what i ordered. these other people are just lucky.

if there was an upgrade that would be worth getting would be bluetooth 2+EDR. then and only then would it make a differance, but otherwise you wouldnt know the differance. a 1.42 i very quick, so dont worry and just order.

It looks to me like Apple's American customers are getting the upgraded mini's while Apple sell the old model to the rest of the world to get rid of old stock.

dont get so worried.

offically apple dont have super upgraded minis. because they are not advertising them. so they are not doing anything wrong. if apple were asked why they upgraded some items in the min they could make up a lot of excusses like: they were short on the normal parts. or somthing to that effect. they arn't breaking the law, and have every right to send you EXACTLY what you ordered. if u asked for a 1.5 mini with 64mb graphics card and they sent you the 1.42 mini then they would have broken the law, but if you ask for a 1.42 and get a 1.42. then no legal contract has been breached, the fact that several thousand people have "accidently" (notice the ",") 1.5 mini is pure mistake (bolloks i know), but they havent breached any law. and no-one is going to sue apple for getting more than they asked for now are they. so apple win 100% of the time.

That is just like saying it is ok for doctors to kill their patients, provided the patient signs a waiver of all liability beforehand. Nevermind govt bodies and ambulance chaser lawyers, those are issues that are specific to America's (screwed up IMO) system and is not relevant at all.

This Mini saga sure isn't generating a lot of goodwill, especially between Apple and their retailers who are still stuck with the old 1.42s and progressively getting shafted more and more by the day, and also customers who are holding out for the 1.5

what would you have done if you didnt hear about this little piece of information, would you have brought it or waited still.

and what happens when we have confermation that 1.5s are about in the uk, and apple decide to bring out a better mac mini for less money what will you do then? you could be waiting 10 years untill you are satisfied.

i suguest buy a mini, when a better one comes out, sell your current 1 and get a better 1.

with apple computers, they loose very little money second hand not like a pc, whats your worst loss? £50, for 6 months you can have a lot more fun than £50's worth.

just buy 1!

This is a silly argument that has been hashed through before. The point is that some customers DO know that there are incremental improvements and don't want to pay the same price for an older version of a new product. Apple is entitled to update their products this way and consumers are entitled to make their own choice of when to buy.

Personally, I would buy a Mini today if it had a better graphics card (and not just the 32Mb bump in memory). That's my threshold for a Mac purchase. Until then, I'll just limp along with this 1999 Dell.

Bon dia,
has actually anyone in Europe/Switzerland ordered a mini and got the new one? I'm thinking about placing an order..

My main concern is when Intel macs come out, people would wise up from Job's B$ and wake up to the fact that x86 chips are better than PPC chips... and then the old PPC macs will be worth a grand total of $0.00.

But x86 Macs will still have problems running software that's built for PPC, hasn't Adobe announced they won't have Mac x86 software available until late next year? That will keep the PPC products in relvative demand for a while..

The Mini is cheap enough to just keep and retire it to DVD/DivX player anyway

Well, I just hope that current macs will still have some value after the x86 transition rather than collectively go *pfft* and fade away from the marketplace :(

A used Quad for that price? WHERE DO I SIGN? :D

In this case I'll wait another 6 months and then I'll be in the market for at least 4 Powerbooks..

I've got the impression that only the US market has updated minis until now.
Today so far no update..
Looks like we have to wait for another week..

Possibly after Christmas then when stocks are depleted?

Seems so strange that the Apple site does not update the Mini. I wonder if all upgrades will be like this one day?

I disagree. Traditionally Macs have held their value well.

Very true about Macs holding their value. However, this is a BIG change to the Intels chips and I think it's a little early to say what kind of value they'll hold if the Intels come out considerably faster and more capable (i.e. can run Windows at the same time) than PPC.

Yes the switch to Intel will probably make older macs worth quite a bit less than they've had in the past. I forsee a lot of people wanting newer machines for the peice of mind that the next big thing will work with their machine.

Yes, this is very strange. I hope that this is a one time deal.

i disagree,

1 i believe that they will gain a value simila to antiques
2 there are many ppl in the world who dont wish to have a scrap to do with windows or have a machine that can be windows enabled.
3 i beleve the quality will drop as people opt for the more cheeper vastly built intel, its the same with all technology, build somthing good, then get the price down by buying off everybody else and making s**t. and i beleve macs will go the same way

I will keep my orig. Mac mini.

I will probably buy the intel Mac mini when it is available, and I will keep my original mini. I will continue to use it for email and web surfing. I assume the intel mini will be Windows compatible to some extent so I can use some of my Windows software. I will not connect it to the Internet until I am sure it is just as virus free as the original.

i dont think that will ever happen unless you put 98 on there.

my say is , if you want to use windows, buy a windows macine, if you want apple, buy a mac. thats what i did, and selling my old pc, and i have never been happier.

upgraded Minis in Europe

Hi,
there are some reports on a Swedish forum (99mac.se) that the upgraded minis have surfaced in Sweden and thus, likely, in the rest of Europe as well.
