I ordered a 1.25 GHz Mac Mini with an 80 GB HD, Combo Drive, and 1 Gig of RAM on 10-22-05. I received it on 11-2-05. The serial number starts with G8543xxxxxx and it is indeed a 1.33 Ghz model with a Seagate Momentus 5400 rpm hard drive with an 8MB cache buffer. The video card still appears to be the 9200 with 32 MB ram. This is my first experience with a Mac Mini as I was using a G5 PowerMac 1.8 (first generation). I can tell a difference in speed but the Mac Mini does pretty well. The only thing that bothers me is the boot up time. When I see the first gray screen with the Apple and the circle timing whirligig(or whatever you call it)-it seems to stay on that screen for almost 2 minutes. I have not timed it but it is a LONG time. Is this normal?
Congrats on the Mini and yes ours take's forever to boot so you know what? we never turn it off:) we sleep it and its been on for months.

C'mon Apple, make the update official, so I can buy a mini to plug into my new telly! C'mon!

It certainly seems that Apple had a large amount of the older Mac mini's in stock.

Got my new Mac Mini

Thanks. That's what I did with my PM G5, I rarely ever restarted it or shut it down.

Yes, I am surprised about that. Would love to see some specific sales figures.

Is it Apple, or stores such as Compusa and Best Buy I wonder? All things being equal, I would much prefer to buy my Mini either online or through an Apple retail store vs. Best Buy or Compusa.

But that is me :)

How much RAM is in your Mac mini?

I guess it could just be a little slow but see, my 867mhz PowerBook G4 12" starts up very quick (under 25 seconds) and it's slower than the Mac mini, although it does have 640mb of RAM but, then again my hard drive is almost full. Odd eh?

Chris -- granted you went for the 'combo' option so you can't confirm the dual-layer SuperDrive, but... can you confirm the 64meg gfx card?

And how long from point of ordering did it take to receive your mini?

Cheers fella.... cheesh, I'm sick of waiting for Apple to confirm the fact these puppies are now out and about, and goods to hear the UK are receiving them. Although I'm still somewhat weary to order one just in case I wind-up with the older 1.4 mni!?!!!

Yup, ATI Radeon 9200, 64 MB VRAM.

I ordered it on Saturday night, it was dispatched on Monday, and it arrived at my place in London on Tuesday.

Arghh man!! A 'real' predicament now!!! Now you've confirmed receiving the updated mini I really don't know whether I should jump in and risk it, ie. order one and the fact that you're in the UK as I am!!

Can I ask, did you order your mini hoping to get the updated model or couldn't you really care less? You see, I'm trying to weigh up the statistics/pros+cons... if you know what I mean!?!

Well folks, I am typing this post from my brand new mini.. Sure enough, my gamble paid off and I have the updated mini (1.5GHZ, 64MB VRAM, 8X DL Superdrive, 5400rpm 80GB HD, etc)...
Nice. What make/model does it show for the 8X DL Superdrive?

Well, obviously I'm happy to have got the updated model, but the extra 80 MHz and 32 MB wasn't really such a big deal for me. I had to order the mini now as a backup computer, because my main work Mac is starting to play up and I can't afford any downtime.

If it wasn't for that immediate need, and I was in the market for a mini, I'd probably have waited until the new models were officially announced.

Just a question.. if I buy the Mini, can I use that user account transfer feature (that shows up when you first power up a mac) and move all my apps and settings over from my current PB?

Got my Mac Mini

I solved my slow boot problem. I downloaded the free utility called Cocktail and installed it and turned off Journaling on the Hard Drive. I also went into the Network System Preference and under the Advanced option unchecked the IPsecV6(I think that is what it is called.) I booted in single user mode and looked at the command line boot stuff to see if I could see anything unusual and it looked like it hung awhile on the IPsecV6 command, so that's why I turned that off(I'm not even sure what that is). I'm not sure which one did it, but it cut my boot time probably in half. No more hanging for 45 seconds at the spinning cog.

Im starting to wonder whether Apple now intend to release the new minis at Macworld san Francisco in January 2006.

Or maybe tuesday in 5000 weeks. If it's not official within a week I'll buy a PC.. just kidding

For UK'ers

When I rang the BLuewater Store today I was told that they have the updated mini's in stock now.

I presume that will be the case also in Regent Street - most likely they had them first.

Anyways, I will be off to bluewater tomorrow to pick mine up!!

Now I just hope I can get it to display on my Sharp Aquos :\

Was in Regent Street store today, for the first time in a few months, to check out the new iMacs.

But the most noticeable thing was the complete absence of any Mac Minis on display anywhere - very different from my last visit !

I'm not saying that this is a clear indication that an updated model is about to be announced, but that I just found it VERY odd that none were on display. If I had been a switcher and had wandered into the store today, I would never have known that an entry level Mac existed from what was on display.

I personally really want to see the low end mac mini equivelent to the 12" iBook and the high end mini equivelent to the 12" PB.

You have some rumour-support..

Maybe we never see the 1.5 Ghz Mini officially.
As I phoned up the official Mac call center in Switzerland (wherever it is..) and asked for the 1.5Ghz, they sad instantly they've never heard about it, and added that I'll get what I ordered or maybe something better..

Yes, I remember that from my last visit, actually the store in Bluewater also only has one set up on display and it has that garish HD add-on underneath it.

Anyways, news!

When I went to Bluewater on Saturday, I said I had previously enquired and got the whisper that the 'revised' minis were now in, typically the assistant at Bluewater looked suitably clueless, however, once I explained the situation to him he looked like he knew that I knew what I was on about. Once that was established he asked if I wanted to buy a mini then and I said that I was after the middle one, so he offered to go and get one.

I then guarded an ibook that was near to the till and gave menacing looks to anyone who approached :p and a few minutes later the gormless assistant staggered out, so I gestured him to come over to me and i proceeded to check the serial number over the apple website.

Goodly enough, it registered that my model was a 'Late 2005 model', at which point I harried the coolie back to the counter to complete my purchase. :D

When I got back, I had a 5/10 minute period of anxiety setting the mini up on my Sharp Aquos TV as the TV kept shutting down every 2 minutes (resolution issues), however, once the mini was set up properly it detected a range of resolutions for 'Sharp GA5' and my mini happily displays at 720p.

If I do not turn on my telly till the mini has booted up then I get a slightly higher resolution, either way, all is good and I am happy with my mini.

Sooooo Uk users your local apple store has the revised range today - just go in and ask to double check beforehand if you have to :)

why choke the processor for what ever it is worth it. If some one wants to use it as a desktop (the lowend is enough) and still get a 167Mhz FSB bus (ibooks are still at 133 for the same clock speed!) , 5200 RPM drive. I just hope they get the GC to 5200. (how much does it cost like 5$ more?)

yep...

well, the forum has moved on, but as promised here is my report.
FedEx ground delivered my 1.5 mini just an hour ago with all confirmed updates.
