AMD's very competent. But they're less than a tenth (much less) than Intel. They don't exactly have the resources Intel does to throw around.

Agreed. In the Phenom II (2009) and Athlon 64 (2004) days, it used to give Intel serious competition, so they had to release better chips in order to keep up.

AMD hasn't given Intel competition since the introduction of the Core architecture, particularly the Core 2, in anything but the server market.

The Phenom II (and Phenom) was quite disappointing, not even close to the Core 2's performance.

The Athlon days were another story... they blew the doors off any and all comers from Intel-- The Netburst architecture got smoked by the Athlon XP, let alone the Athlon 64.
