Wow... that's an adapter ? looks more like an mp3 player
It's not an adaptor, it's a pair of bluetooth earphones. The box contains the battery, bluetooth ratio, DAC, microphone, noise cancelling electronics, USB micro port for charging and the controls.

Or how about Apple lives in reality where they've been working hard to improve BT audio, and wireless audio in general -- the quality of which will rival wired audio -- and will announce the results of their innovation when the reveal the removal of the 3.5mm Jack?

I really doubt this will happen.

Really? So you know all about BT 5 that was just introduced? There's a pretty good chance Apple will introduce BT 5 with the new iPhone and be among the first to offer it.
Yes I am aware of the new BT standard and am hoping that it will solve some non-audio issues for me. It would be nice if BT audio wasn't so miserable in vehicles (massive latency, dropouts, skipping, poor audio). What I am doubting is that it will bring BT wireless to "near wired" capability / sound. I would be happy to be wrong, but it still does not resolve having yet another device with batteries that have to be charged.

I think it's clear these were fake from the picture before even reading the article. I'm hoping Apple will do something unique with the ear pods, to cope with the possible deleted 3.5 Port. I'm slowly accepting we may not see the 3.5 Port with all these leaked photo's.

Of course, it can't be an Apple design.
It's one of the ugliest piece of electronics, I've ever seen.
Also, this earphone is not at all practical.
The connecter will bend or break as soon as you sit with the phone connected to the EarPods and in your pocket.

*sigh*

1. The solution Apple will give to the loss of the headphone socket is wireless headphones.. NOT lightning headphones.
2. There will be no earphones in the box with all future iPhones.
3. There will however be a variety of wireless ear/headphones for purchase on Apple's websites.

These are my predictions.

At least your plan makes some sense. Wired Lightning headphones make no sense at all. Unfortunately it seems like Cook and Co. will go with the plan that makes no sense.

I'm sure if Apple could, they would not include any headphones in the box. That's a hold over from the iPod, and likely still a consideration in promoting Apple Music. But I've also read that some EU regulation requires headphones be included in the box, much in the same way I believe they have to include the Lightning to micro USB adapter. And has been pointed out, many iPhone customers do use the included earbuds.

It's possible that adding a second speaker is part of their strategy to stop including the headphones in the box. However, that seems like a foolish move considering how much more space that takes up than the headphone jack, especially considering the inherent low quality, and I for one will be disappointed with Apple if that's what they have planned.

Not an issue for me, I got rid of the annoying dangly, tangly wires ages ago and replaced the earbuds with a bluetooth version. I suggest everyone else do the same.
Yes because everyone has the exact same use case as you.

If true, more painful earbuds from Apple. A little silicone or foam on the tip of each would go a long way! Surely that cost can be absorbed due to the ridiculous profit margins these phones carry.
Actually my wife prefers this design because she can wear them in bed lying on her side without them causing pressure on the ear canal. She tried Bluetooth type but found because of the silicon they were too big and stuck out too far. From my point of view they are too small so fall out all the time. So now I use her Bluetooth set. Horses for courses i suppose but these ones are pretty ugly I expect something a little more innovative to come from Apple.
