Really dont like hearing all these product release theories with no mention of an imac... whats going on apple?!?!!

I can see the new ipads being "stealth-updated" with those new IGZO screens everyone seems to be going gaga over, but otherwise, I don't expect hardware updates till March next year. That said, I believe that the 4th gen ipad will see mostly internal spec upgrades (better camera, quad-core finally, more ram, possibly larger storage options and improved battery life), with the software side being taken care of by IOS6. Perhaps that's what they mean by "modest", no new form factor or revolutionary new feature to boast of.

And this couldn't be added to an update to the story posted just hours ago so as not to create 2 different discussions on the same topic ?

Mods : merge threads ? :D

Yes, MacRumors is getting sloppy and posting duplicate stories. Quality is slipping.

This would not have happened with Android forums. I'm seriously tempted to buy the new Samsung Galaxy S III now.

Then don't think of it as a small iPad, think of it as a large iPod Touch.

Actually, think of it as a Kindle Fire but with apps that don't suck.

If they introduce a new case that "would have a major impact on accessory makers," wouldn't Apple be hurting itself in the long run? Why wouldn't it simply be one more choice for consumers? I can't see Apple undermining the huge accessory ecosystem already in place.

I can see how a new dock connector could cause quite a bit of pain for a few years, mostly for users. I use the Alesis iO Dock for recording. A new dock connection would render it useless. I also have a stereo dock for my iPhone that will become useless. But more importantly, I'm going to be very reluctant to buy any more high-priced accessories for iOS devices. When I pay a couple hundred dollars for an accessory, I expect to get more that one or two years of use out of it.

Ever since the iPhone was released, we've had a rumor of a new iPhone mid-cycle. Now that the iPad is here, it seems those rumors have shifted to it. The rumor mill always claims we'll get an updated iPad mid-cycle. It's not happened yet, I don't see it happening now.

It's like the cheaper Iphone thing.

Nobody has said the current ipad is too big. Most go for a 7" tablet for price.

There's a better chance of a cheaper Ipad 2 than a mini Ipad. Releasing various IOS models takes the flagship factor away from Apple products.

the Iphone "mini" or "nano" turned out to be a cheaper 3GS.

These rumours probably come from pro types. No doubt the test alternative models but that doesn't mean Apple plan on releasing. One thing these rumours can't do is predict accurately if Apple will release something.

Really not sure how I feel about the iPad mini. Clearly it'll be wonderful for some techies that feel the current iPad model is too big, but I like that there are clear size distinctions between all of their products. I guess I'm of the school of thought that too many choices isn't necessarily a good thing. The iPhone is small for a reason: it's a phone. The iPad is mid-sized for a reason: its a tablet.

Maybe I'm just looking for something to complain about.

So now a 7" tablet is a great idea and a kickstand for a phone is revolutionary. I can't believe that no one else has ever done this. Next thing you know Google will be selling a 7" tablet and Android phones will have kickstands since everyone copies Apple.

I catch the sarcasm, but some of the fans might not.

The Thunderbolt has a built-in stand that works for both landscape and portrait.

So, Apple won't have a stand - Apple doesn't copy. ;)

I just hope the mini does not keep that ratio. won't fit to nicely in a pocket like that which is half the reason for the smaller tablet. portability

Agree. Hopefully they go smaller/skinnier and taller (like the new iPhone).

that's what I was thinking. New iPhone ratio to fit with new Mini ratio. mini runs phone apps and stillhave tablet apps for iPad. other wise I think lots will rush a mini purchase and regret it later when the realize they still need a bag to carry it.

Insane idea: an Apple iPhone case with a built-in camera lens that's controlled via Bluetooth, and some sort of amplifying mechanism for the back-facing microphone. Apple's already improved the camera as much as they can inside the phone, and a good lens would be the next logical step.

You think that would have a "major impact" on case manufacturers?

Since a 7.85" iPad is small enough to grip one-handed, there's less of a need for a fat bezel. So eliminate the bezel on both the left and right sides and that shaves 2 inches off the width of the device, making it much more reasonable to put in a back pocket or jacket pocket.

then small handed people won't be able to hold it portrait without a thumb on the screen.

You still need the a little bezel for grip and not touching the screen when you don't need to.

They better not update the iPad. I just got mine a couple months ago. Just wait till next year to update it. Yearly cycles work the best anyways as its less confusing the customer.

Smoke and mirrors!!!
Coffee grounds!!!
ANYTHING to deter your attention!!!
All of this seems a little too...I don't know...FISHY to me.
Granted, it could (and most likely IS) (be) wishful thinking on my part, but I'm not too sure that what we're seeing is what will be unveiled when THE time comes.
(Again, wishful thinking on my part!!)
...But what if ALL of this is just to throw everyone off of the scent of what's REALLY going to happen?

Like someone else mentioned, all we (I) can do is wait for their offical announcement--THEN we can make whatever decisions we've planned on.
(Like jumping ship!!!)

Why would it be exciting when you aren't even an iphone owner?

Guess you weren't excited when iphone 2g launched. Or are you saying iphone releases don't excite everyone(including non-apple people)? If anything your comment is the total opposite of the effect apple presentations have had these so many years. Your comment simply makes no sense. Just coz you don't own something, it doesn't mean you don't know anything about or can't be excited for that product.
Lol, I can't imagine the iPad Mini without the ruler next to it. I think Apple has to sell it with it.
Very very funny comment ,LOL
