I don't they will launch the iPhone and iPad Mini at the same. That makes no sense. Makes more sense to launch the new iPhone and iPod at the same time with the new iPhone the star of the show.

I think they will then allow some time to generate iPhone publicity and buzz and launch it before the next big thing the iPad Mini is announced late October ready for a Christmas sales push.

Doubling Down on Security?

So the Boss makes a proclamation that 'Apple is doubling down on security". Really? Seriously?

It begs the question: when will the 'doubling down' be implemented.

There seems to be more credible info on the new ip5 than any of its predecessors.

Oops!

Guess you weren't excited when iphone 2g launched. Or are you saying iphone releases don't excite everyone(including non-apple people)? If anything your comment is the total opposite of the effect apple presentations have had these so many years. Your comment simply makes no sense. Just coz you don't own something, it doesn't mean you don't know anything about or can't be excited for that product.

I've never found myself remotely excited over the launch of an Android phone. I don't get excited over cell phones I don't intend to purchase.

Do you think people fear Tim Cook like they did Steve Jobs? No way...of course there will be more leaks these days.

I use the Alesis iO Dock for recording. A new dock connection would render it useless. I also have a stereo dock for my iPhone that will become useless. But more importantly, I'm going to be very reluctant to buy any more high-priced accessories for iOS devices. When I pay a couple hundred dollars for an accessory, I expect to get more that one or two years of use out of it.

You will have paid $600+ for your cell phone. Do you not expect to get more than one or two years use out of it? Why are you so willing to toss your phone, which costs 2-3x the accessory, but not the accessory itself?

----------

In regards to the iPad mini, I'm sold on it for my daughter. I have been hesitant to even buy an iPad for myself, since my daughter would probably want to use it as often as I would. However, a $200 or so smaller iPad would be perfect price- and size-wise. It might take the place of the iPod touch a parent would normally buy for their child.

Because the third generation iPad was crippled? Lacked Siri at launch and only supports 4G in the US. I for one was so disappointed with the third iPad that Im still using a first gen.

No it had retina, better cameras, faster processor and Siri is coming. Why would they change it?

offer only "relatively modest" tweaks to the design

Is it just me or are we getting these a lot after Steve died??

Seems like it. But for all we know this info is all false. Happened with the teardrop iPhone last year

With Apple having used the same glass sandwich style iPhone two years in a row, it makes me wonder if they'll do the same with the elongated rectangle? An excuse for them to avoid anything new, fresh & exciting for quite some time.

Four years of pure profit taking. An admirable achievement.

Next thing you know Google will be selling a 7" tablet and Android phones will have kickstands since everyone copies Apple.

Except that this is not a 7" tablet. It's really an 8" tablet. It has a display area that's roughly equal in size to a hypothetical 8.1" Android tablet, which is significantly(~40%) larger than the currently available 7" tablets. I don't know why people keep using that misleading diagonal number. I understand your desire to get back at Apple and the supporters by using "Apple is copying Google" logic and I do think Apple is copying them to an extent, but this is a significantly different product from the 7" tablets for the reason I've stated above.

i bet it's close to $300 because it's Apple.

And I understand your need to defend Apple at all costs. If the Apple tablet is .00001 larger than the Nexus, Apple didn't copy.

I would laugh if the Iphone stays 3.5" and the Ipad mini doesn't show up. :p

I'm hoping for this outcome.. Exclusively for the laughs. It's always entertaining to watch little enraged heads pop like bubble wrap all over the Interwebs when premature expectations fall short.

Sit back, enjoy your current technology and be pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed when something new is announced.. Or not announced. :)

A month and a half allows lots more speculation, and new threads for this site. I certainly believe we will see the new iPhone and mini iPad announced on Sept 12th, probably with new dock connector (with new name?). Not too sure about a new iPad 4 just for the dock connector, but why not.

I can see how a new dock connector could cause quite a bit of pain for a few years, mostly for users. I use the Alesis iO Dock for recording. A new dock connection would render it useless. I also have a stereo dock for my iPhone that will become useless. But more importantly, I'm going to be very reluctant to buy any more high-priced accessories for iOS devices. And you know that it will render everything "useless" how? Nothing's been released yet. You have no idea if a simple adapter will ensure backwards-compatibility even if there is a new connector.
