If you want to send videos between Android and iPhone it is a HUGE compatibility upgrade. The stuff my sister sends me no longer looks like it was filmed with a potato. So we no longer have to use a third party app just for media.

RCS is more agnostic as you don't need to download some third party software or sign up for an account.

Also most Americans use some text messaging app as their default form of messaging. In the USA SMS messages were quickly made part of plans as it literally cost the carriers little.
I don't want to send videos between phones of any sort, I have no problem with RCS at all, I am not saying other people not use it, all I am saying is that I don't have a need for it and that is why I disable it

Sheep? 😂

When my kids send me photos, I want the best quality of them. I also like the security RCS will have…. The main reason why I like iMessage so much… the security. Anyone at your phone company can see and read your texts.

I also message my business partners using Signal.

Unless you’re using Proton Mail or another like it, email providers can read your emails.

Before you said “I have nothing to hide,” we all have something to hide.

I had this issue years ago. I turned off iMessage, did a hard rest. When it came on, I turned on iMessage, did a hard rest again, and that fixed the issue.
Sheep, animals that roam in a field, they follow each other. People do a lot of that these days, donlt seem to have a mind of their own.

I am sure you find RCS and Imessage useful if you send a load of photos and that sort of thing, I don't and saying about the security of RCS, well, since as i have already said the U.K government will no doubt stop E2EE, before it starts, it will not be any more secure than SMS.

Who is going to read your emails? I am pretty sure the email providers have no interest in your emails.

I have nothing against RCS if someone finds it useful, but I donl;t and I don't want to be sent all the rubbish that people seems to send when a new messaging service comes out, a ton of emojis and other stuff like it. so disable RCS and that puts a stop to it. i use SMS for what it was made for, to send short messages.,

But SMS' limited functionality made it actually quite phone operating system agnostic. The problem with Google's implementation of RCS is that it's not part of the original GSMA standard, and that might cause potential compatibility issues. Now if GSMA were able to incorporate Google's own RCS extensions into the RCS standard itself, that will be a different story.

But still, much of the world still runs on third-party messaging services. There's a huge user base of Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, WeChat and LINE users worldwide, particularly WhatsApp and WeChat.

Google extension of RCS was only because the carriers resisted EE2E. Now that Apple came on board they were able to overcome those objections, and Google will no longer have their own implementation of RCS. Universal Profile 3, which includes EE2E, was published two months ago.

Then Americans switching over to RCS won't affect them much.

Here is the thing, why disable it? It doesn't hurt you to have it enabled. This curmudgeon attitude over RCS makes no sense.

Why disable it? For a start I really don't want my messages going through Google servers, secondly it stops people trying to use a load o emojis, photos and other stuff. Thirdly, I did use a third party text app, that did njot have RCS.
The fourth thing, is, I don't need it .

Google likely collects less data than your carrier does per GDPR privacy notices.

RCS has nothing to do with emojis, photos, gifs, and such those are available in SMS. Your messaging app simply interprets them.

What would my carrier collect? It is a Virtual one anyway and wehat interest would they have in collecting any data, not that they can as I use a VPN anyway.

The advertising blurb for RCS is that you can send photos and video in higher quality, and also supports silly stickers and more Emojis.
Only one person tried to send me a photo via SMS/MMS in all the years I have been using it.
So, if I am not going to use the features of RCS, what is the point in using it, just to please Google and other people?
SMS does what I need it to do and works when there is ittle signal, as a mate found out last year, RCS fails when out in the middle of nowhere with minimal signal. The app tries to send the message via RCS, find it can't and comes up with a can't send message, not even trying to resend it via SMS. He turned off RCS and, his experience, told me I made the right choice not to use RCs.
Also, as I said, I normally use a different app that support RCS.

Hopefully, with Universal Profile 3, we can end the fight between iMessage and RCS once and for all. Mind you, I still think in the Messages app Apple should use an orange-color text bubble to show messages incoming in RCS Universal Profile 3 format. Now, when will the carriers switch to RCS Universal Profile 3 support, though.
