this is exactly what i suspected. he was making a ballpark estimate in the heat of the moment. i don't know why anyone ever believed his prediction in the first place! apple release the 3g iphone before wwdc? pfff. not a chance.
the next gen iphone will be announced on june 9th and be available in stores june 30th - exactly one year after iphone 1.0. is it really that difficult to figure out? it won't come any sooner than that. jeez people.
I for one personally thank MR. mossberg for his slip up.
During the time he mentioned the iphone 3g becoming available in the next 60 days apple shares went up. in the process I made some nice pocket change. He helped me fund my next iphone purchase and possibly a new macbook pro when they finally get the redesign.
I love rumors sometimes depending on the position your in they can be to your benefit. Lucky thing i sold early AAPL dropped 3 points today.
So where'd it come from? It's a ballpark estimate, he says
I wouldn't really write-off the possibility, it would make sense that apple releases a major update within one year of releasing the iPhone and absolutely no later.
What i really think is that the 3G iPhone will be released a month or so before WWDC, but not made available till shortly after WWDC. That would also kind of fit with what Walt said.
But then again, what do i know
It is blindingly obvious, to duckisdary![]()
alright, alright. i get it and you don't need to pick on me
i stand by my prediction though and am not alone. just check out this morning's rumors from australia:

I am sure he will have his way before anyone else - maybe he already does?!?
ok likely not months ahead - but at least a couple of weeks ahead of time from the commoner public (WSJ audience etc)...
maybe he will have HIS in 60 days, the rest of us... ???
PS Those FINNs at the Walt conference didn't flinch at all when he pounded the table, nor moved an eyebrow over much anything he said...
