The RDF (reality distortion field) was applied to him many, many years by his best bud: Steve Jobs himself. Obviously over the years the RDF has less effect because he has built up tolerance for that crap. Unfortunately it still works on him because he's upgrading.

Exactly...not much of a review if you really look at it.

I'm awaiting one from Engadget.

I think the brevity and nonchalant nature of his review reflects how most people feel about the products. They're nice, but nothing new to talk about. I'm not sure why he needs to write a novel when there's really not much there to discuss.

Again, his whole career was built on communicating to a general, non-tech-savvy audience. If you're looking for more, Engadget, Verge, and Ars are a better bet. It doesn't make Mossberg any less relevant, just for a different audience.

Well, Engadget review is here and......battery life sucks!

Not even 9.5 hours...geez!

That effectively kills it for me. I don't care how the new display looks or how much better the 4 speakers sound.

That leaves either the iPP 2 or if Apple does an Air3.

That's interesting given that most of the other reviews claim better battery life across the board?

Seriously? Its one of its first charges. And its only one review. Geez.

Even so...the battery isn't going to jump another hour. And they've had the review unit for at least several days... so not on the first or initial charge.

I'm really disappointed.

I'd wait to see what the general population has to say before jumping to conclusions, especially since Engadget's review appears to be the outlier regarding battery life.

That's at 50% brightness for both tablets. Wasn't the Pro 9.7 supposedly 25% brighter than the Air 2? If you measure in nits, the 50% brightness on the Pro is likely brighter than 50% on Air 2.

By the same token, if the pencil and smart keyboard are part of what constitutes an "iPad Pro"...why saddle the 9.7" w/only 2gb RAM?!

It may not matter now, but it doesn't bode well for the future.

And by putting 2gb in the 9.7", but 4gb in the 12.9", developers now are 'forced' to code for the lesser of the two.

It's a haphazardous situation at best.

Because you don't need 2GB of ram. The 4GB is mainly for the higher resolution images that need to be stored. That is all.

Actually, I've found Engadget's battery test to be very fair and accurate. Unlike many reviews which are less precise or even general in nature.

Once users report in on their actual battery numbers...get ready for an eye-opener.

I asked on a related thread...could any Apple supporters list an app that wasn't pencil related that the Pro 9.7" runs that the Air2 cannot.

I'm still waiting for an answer...

This is a bizarre thing to ask for from a company that basically demands the exact opposite from developers.

I'm curious, is there any app that will not run on even older iOS 9 capable devices (e.g. iPad 3, 4, Air)?

Name an app that the current MacBook Pro can run that the previous generation (with the same specs) cannot?

From a capability standpoint, there are features that certainly give it the potential to run apps that the Air 2 cannot, but that's really up to the Developers. Developers aren't going to write apps that limit their potential audience. This is why you don't see Developers lining up to write apps for just the 12.9 Pro.

What you WILL see is apps that run better on the 9.7 Pro than the Air 2 (potentially). Games may run smoother, apps that require processing power will run better, etc. I'm not saying it's going to be a mind-blowing experience, but it'll be there.

Are you saying that you would only store higher resolution images on the larger pro, and not the smaller pro? Wouldn't that make the smaller pro NOT a pro?

No I'm saying the larger images required for applications on the higher resolution 12.9 iPad Pro take up more ram during normal use. Therefore would require more ram than the 9.7 iPad Pro, allowing the smaller model to have the same level of performance with less required ram.

Can you list an App a Macbook Pro can run but not a Macbook?

The point is not that it can run certain apps the other can't... but that it can run some of them _better_ (faster, better screen, with Apple Pencil, etc.).
