I have the SurfaceSkins installed over my iPad 2 3G and there was no difference in service. I conducted a speedtest immediately before installing the skin and right after.

Not sure if that would do anything because I never get the same results.

Even if I do the test after test, results vary.

IMO don't think a skin would change much...

For those using icarbons or surface skins, why else do you use o protect your iPad. Do you use another case and/sleeve while traveling or walking with it? Although this is the approach I want to take, I would still not like to believe this would protect the iPad...say in the car/restaurants...basically once it's not in our hands or in the hands of kids.

Basically for my protection I'm going to use a smart cover + icarbons skin.

Then this case, http://www.amazon.com/Candy-Cases-B...P0XQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301325799&sr=8-1

It was on sell for a little over $20 a week or 2 ago.

I have an iCarbons skin on the back, a smart cover on the front and ordered a ColcaSac for when I'm taking my iPad anywhere.

I'm looking for the same thing. I ordered the Tom Bihn Ristretto bag which came today - but with all my stuff plus the iPad2 in it, it's cumbersome. I think I'd be better off returning it, finding a VERY lightweight protective envelope or sleeve for the iPad and putting it in another bag. I think the ColcaSac looks good, but I don't know if it has enough (any) cushioning. At present I have the iCarbons which prevents the iPad2 from sliding off my lap and makes it easier to hold, and the smart cover. I do think I need something for when I take it with me out and about - but lightweight and cushioning may be hard to find together.

Agree. Looked at Colcsac @ some pictures from forum. Did not like at all. Too casual. Will continue searching for something decent. Might pickup some sleeve in the meanwhile if it's cheap like some folks posted earlier ($5), now expired.

I purchased on Thursday night and received it today. Watched the video and the install was a snap. I was concerned about the Smart Cover as I read a few posts here that suggests that the connection was not as good with the iCarbon installed. So I did a little cutting before installing. I thought I was careful enough using my straight edge but I varied just a wee bit. Anyway, overall I like it - and I believe I am going to leave my Apple logo black.

It actually looks better visually than these pictures - damn camera works too good (close up!). That little dip above makes me mad, but I don't notice a thing in use.

Anyway - I poked a hole with a #2 pencil through the adhesive back before taking it off, lined up the camera and then marked where the Smart Cover hinges started. Honestly, the depth was a guess but it ended up being 1/8" exactly. I got a cutting board and a sheet rock knife w/new blade (stronger than an exacto because this stuff is a bit thick). Then I lined up a straight edge (metal t-square) and made sure my distance was good on both ends and then cut. The reason that end above is a little off is because I stopped to see where my cut needed to end and I think I stretched it a bit when I started again.

I applied it from the top down (like a screen protector), so no air bubbles.

Very nice! I put in my order today, so hopefully it'll come in by Friday, so I can get it all set for the weekend.

Can I ask you:

1) Did you measure or eyeball the extra part you cut away to accommodate the Smartcover? I have a smartcover too and I'm thinking I'd like to do same -- however, I'm afraid of cutting away too much.

2) How did you remove the air bubbles from the middle? Are there any small visible bubbles still that might go with time? (Can't make them out from the pics)

Colored Apples from PhantomSkinz

I had to fix it a few times to get it on as flat as possible with the slits, but I was able to extend them to the end almost with enough heat. They're sending me a black apple logo, but I might keep the white one on because I like the look.

Sweteg,

For informational purposes - PhantomSkinz will send you any Apple color that is available in our Chromatics lineup. Just add a note with your order in the "Comments for PhantomSkinz" with your preference and we will include it. For a complete list of all our available colors, please look at the Color Wheel in the Apple iPhone 4 Chromatics. Let me know if you have any further questions.

I originally ordered a Best Skins Ever clear skin for the back of my iPad, big mistake as I SUCK putting on skins. I wound up having to throw it in the garbage I screwed it up so badly. Not digging on Best Skins Ever, I just suck at putting skins on.

After that, I was on the prowl for some protection for the back of my iPad when I came across this thread. I knew I wanted one of these the second I saw the first picture.

I was able to put mine on without a hitch whatsoever in less than 10 minutes. I followed the video and there were no problems.

Here are the pics:

So here's a new question. I ordered the phantom skinz, because I've always used phantom skinz and their fantastic (not saying icarbons isn't, just never used them before and placed the order before learning about icarbons, but from the pics they look like extreme quality). Unfortunately after trying over and over I gave up on my quest for a black 32gb ipad 2 and ended up with a white version. I don't hate the white frame, but really do prefer black. The thing is I will be installing the phantom skinz invisible shield on the front, but then I'm thinking about purchasing only the front portion of the icarbons and layering it over the invisible shield. Do you think it would look "tacky" or much of the white would show up on the edges? Has anyone with a white ipad used the black carbon fiber bezel and have pics of how much if any of the white bezel shows up?

I decided to go with the Sena Ultraslim iPad2 with smart cover case. It's not much cushioning but I figure will keep the smart cover on which protects the glass. There is a separate thread on the Sena cases in this Accessories Forum where Iceage provided a discount code. I'll have it by next week and will report back. I hope it works as I expect.

Cool,will check the thread.

Update: just ordered the marware cases at Amazon. Both CEO and Microshell folio. Great prices for pre-order

Just picked up my iPad 2 replacement (light bleed). I just went ahead and took the sealed box over to the ghost armor stand with my icarbons black rear skin and had them install a screen protector and the icarbons skin. They sell a similar faux carbon.

The screen protector is very nice. I think it's a keeper. $40 perfecty installed.

The guy couldnt get the icarbons corners down so he didn't charge me the $10 we agreed upon.

I compared the icarbons with the ghost armor faux carbon and I would defiantly go with the icarbons again. The apple cutout on the ghost armor is all one cutout where the icarbons is separate apple and leaf. The ghost armor does not come with a white apple and just does not quite look as good.

I was able to get the corners perfect once I got it home an hit it with a hair dryer on low heat.

Side note: the replacement iPad does indeed have screen bleed but it's not near as noticeable. Pretty much invisible under normal use (screen brightness turned halfway under some normal house lighting.

I wish icarbons would add more options, like matte black with no apple cutout. Anyone know anyplace selling skins like that other than stealtharmor?

Can't decide between black and white

I've already decided that I'll use the combination of icarbon and smart cover, but I can't decide on icarbon's color.

White seems to go better with the iPad's original logo, and overall a better fit to the aluminum.
Black seems more luxurious, and I think that after a while would look better than the white one, that would probably get dirty over time.

From those that already purchased, why did you choose black/white, and would you change it if you could?

i have the black but have the white on order - I have used white on car interior parts and it does get dirt but only long term. At 20 bucks for the back, I 'll replace it once a year and it'll look fine...

Hopefully someone can help with this, please! :)

So I ordered a back skin from iCarbons, and I got the shipping notice e-mail from them today -- along with USPS tracking number.

However, it's been over 8 hours and the package is still not showing up in the system. I have a nagging suspicion that the number of digits is incorrect, or the tracking number is wrong.

Hopefully someone here still has their tracking number -- can you please tell me if there are 22 digits in the tracking number?

I'm hoping I'll get the skin by Friday, but I really want to track its progress. Thanks much!

can't track on same day you receive it - try tomorrow...
