can you guys give me some tips on installling the icarbons corner? i followed the video precisely and i could not get the corners to sit nicely without wrinkling. didnt even get one perfect corner:(

Hopefully someone can help with this, please! :)

So I ordered a back skin from iCarbons, and I got the shipping notice e-mail from them today -- along with USPS tracking number.

However, it's been over 8 hours and the package is still not showing up in the system. I have a nagging suspicion that the number of digits is incorrect, or the tracking number is wrong.

Hopefully someone here still has their tracking number -- can you please tell me if there are 22 digits in the tracking number?

I'm hoping I'll get the skin by Friday, but I really want to track its progress. Thanks much!

USPS tracking system is not reliable. Sometimes packages that are sent to me don't show up in the tracking system until the day they're out for delivery.

Power support anti-glare iPad2 with iCarbons

I love my iCarbons. Back will stay but I expect I'll have to remove the part framing the screen when I install the PS film. Sigh. I wish I could keep both on but the static cling can't be as strong given the levels difference. I think having the anti-glare is more important but feel free to persuade me otherwise. As it's a preorder, there's time to cancel. I'll never be able to cut the PS so it corresponds exactly to the framed screen. I wish it weren't an either or.

I've ordered one from this ebay store: click
Looks exactly like the iCarbon (with the same corners) but they offer more colors. I almost didn't buy it because they don't mention that you're getting a logo with the kits but when I asked they told me I could request a logo in any color I like. I've ordered a black carbon back with silver carbon logo for only half the price of an iCarbon.

Nice. Please check back in with your impressions once you get it and install it. Those prices look great!

the white I carbon is stunning:

Now, I don't believe that the problem is that the skin itself weakens the strength of the magnets. What you'll notice when you put the smart cover on, is that the film only extends about halfway under the hinge. What I think this does is create an uneven surface for the smart cover to adhere to, and because of this, allows the cover to slip up and down, left and right.

I wonder if a little heat applied to the skin where the smart cover attaches would allow it to stretch and cover the entire attachment area instead of only half of it. Then there wouldn't be an uneven surface for the smart cover to attach to. Any thoughts?

I've already decided that I'll use the combination of icarbon and smart cover, but I can't decide on icarbon's color.

White seems to go better with the iPad's original logo, and overall a better fit to the aluminum.
Black seems more luxurious, and I think that after a while would look better than the white one, that would probably get dirty over time.

From those that already purchased, why did you choose black/white, and would you change it if you could?

In case you're still curious: Black iPad2, Black Smart Cover, Black iCarbons and Black Sena Ultraslim for iPad2 with Smart Cover on order. I wouldn't change the color but I'd probably get more storage (I got the 16GB ATT thinking I'd use the iPad 2 mostly for streaming, reading on-line news, books, email etc. - which may well be the case. However 16GB is effectively 14GB and after downloading some apps, some photos, music and one film - I have 10.4GB left and it doesn't feel like much.)

Received my black icarbons today. They chose to ignore my request for a black apple insert, so i started the install in a bad mood. Now that it is on though, the perfect fit outweighs the lack of the insert I requested. For now i am going without an insert, and i Really like the look of it. I'm looking at the back of the ipad almost as much as the front. Way better than the stealtharmor junk i couldn't wait to rip off the thing.

I agree with this. The issue may not be weaker magnet-it is pretty solid pulling straight away. But it does seem to shift and twist more, sometimes it twists until the magnets lose the connection. I'm considering purchasing a second one and cutting it around the smart cover mount point to assure a solid connection.

Ok, got the replacement and did the cutting along the edge to clear for the smart cover. Wish I had better skills at cutting. Guess I should have been paying attention in preschool when we learned how to use scissors rather than eating paste and sniffing markers.

Anyway, I do notice that the smart cover is more solid now. I definitely think the icarbons as designed causes it to shift a bit. Hoping they come up with an option where they cut this out for us so I don't have to go nuts thinking about my crooked lines! :(

I really like the skin though.

Just ordered from the seller you listed tonight. I'll have the backing before my Ipad 2.

Thanks for the link. I ordered the white with the 3G cutout. I requested a black carbon logo, so let's hope they include it...

Getting back on topic...

So I got my black back-only iCarbons skin on Friday, and had a mild panic attack when I couldn't locate a hairdryer. (I don't have one because I keep my hair short). So I bought a cheap one from Walmart for $10 and it did the edges quite well. However, I encountered a slight problem, so I thought I'd share it here for the benefit of anyone else reading.

Like the iCarbons installation video said, I used the lowest heat setting. But, I feel it actually made the edges sit pretty badly because it barely softened the skin, making it semi-soft. Therefore it bunched up and once it cooled, it had sharp edges.

So what I did was make tiny slits on the edges of the skin, and then used a *only a few seconds* of the highest heat setting to really soften the skin, and it set down cleanly and perfectly. You can't see the slits, and the edges are now flat and smooth. Hope this might be helpful to anyone who might face the same problem.

the other easy way to work with di-noc (what this is) is turn the ipad so the corner is hanging down and not stuck on yet - then hit it with the high heat for about 2 sec until it goes limp...and straight - quickly apply even pressure and it will conform perfectly.

yeah i found using low heat didnt work well with the corners. i used the highest heat for about 2-3 seconds and the corners became super soft and laid down nicely

Should I trim icarbons skin or not for smart cover?

I am going to receive my icarbons skin for my ipad 2 in the next day or so. I will be using the smart cover with it. Some have trimmed the skin so it clears the smart cover's hinge and I need to decide whether to do the same or not.

I would appreciate comments from those of you using an icarbons skin with the smart cover. Please indicate if the skin reduced the strength of the smart cover's magnetic grip if not trimmed or if you are convinced that trimming the skin improved the magnetic grip.

don't trim anything - works fine....and I have mounted both black and white

How well it works and how different it work is a subjective matter of opinion of course, but IMHO there is a difference.

I've used the same SmartCase with and without the trimming and I noticed what I thought was a significant difference. The case slid off considerably more times without the trimming than after the trimming.

The Smartcase will hold, just not as securely.

Has anyone succeeding in trimming the skin after it's installed?

I'm persuaded that the Smart Cover may work better with iCarbons if there were a small carve out where the hinges are - however, my iCarbons skin is already installed. Has anyone managed to trim the skin, perhaps pushing it back from the edge, after it's installed? If so, how did you do it. I'm going to write iCarbons to suggest they do a small redesign with an indent for the hinges and a cut-out for SIM card removal.

dunno what you are doing with your ipad or cover but as I said, mine holds fine and has never come off with no trimming - and yes, I can even wiggle it hard in these pics. Maybe some magnets are stronger than others - I have a leather case on the way for a friend, I'll try that one too, but this poly is strong.

I noticed it with the case folded up and the iPad laying down propped up in the lower profile mode. The case was more prone to sliding off with pressure applied, particularly in either upper corner.

Yes, I'm interested in this, too. Before I installed my iCarbon back skin, I planned to trim it a little, but in my excitement, I totally forgot about it. I really would like to do without having to rip it out and purchasing/installing a new one.

My SmartCover seems to sit fine, and it stays on while the iPad is in the lower position. The problem only emerges when I place my iPad in the standing position (illustrated in the pic below). I placed it at work today in this position and within a few minutes, it toppled over. Fortunately, I had a stack of paper towels sitting in front of which cushioned the fall and protected the screen.
