Isn't is much easier to just use a laptop? You don't need to prop a laptop up on a pillow or blanket to make it easily viewed. I just don't really get it.

Have you actually gone and held one? There is something magical about holding one in your hand. You feel so connected to it. I have the same feeling when I hold my iPhone. There is something about all the touching that makes your connection to the device so personal.

Steve?

I found a perfect solution to hold my iPad without it feeling a bit weighty after awhile!! I now keep it in landscape position (depending on what app/game I'm using) in the Apple iPad box it originally came in! No more having to hold it on my body while lying down or sitting up, it's perfect until I buy a case for my iPad :)

How is the heat?

Are there any hot-spots on the unit?

Does it ever run hot to the touch?

I'd much rather deal with the awkwardness of holding the iPad than melting the skin off my legs with a laptop. I've noticed absolutely no heat. If anything, it remains at room temperature.

iPad holder for bed, couch and more

Here is the best way I have seen to hold an iPad, it is called theiProp. (www.theiProp.com) or on Twitter @theiProp. Looks like it will work in bed, on a chair, as a music stand or several other uses. It will suspend the iPad above or in front of you wherever you want to position it.

With an Apple case.

Yes I know you are promoting your own site, but that huge floor stand defeats the purpose of the iPad. So much for light, and easily mobile.

This is a good question. I haven't yet found my groove with this thing. It's heavy and a bit awkward if I'm totally honest.
My biggest gripe with the iPad is it's weight, highly reflective screen, and awkwardness. If the back were flat it would be easier to hold.

After a few days with a 7" Galaxy Tab, it only made my previous desire for a 7" iPad grow stronger.

Too bad Steve pulled one of his public bashings of the 7" form factor. Now there's no chance for Apple to reap the massive profits this size is sure to generate. Fanboys can suck up to Uncle Steve all you want, but this time he's wrong and it will cost him.

Will it impact sales of the current size? No way, but it will leave huge piles of cash on someone elses table, cash that could have been spent with Apple.

If i wanted something that small, id just stick with using my droid 2 phone.

I've used the Apple case since May and with it tilted easily touch type/both hands. I added a Propup soft stand recently and use it with the Apple case--just pops in. Makes it just right for landscape viewing of movies, reading, typing (handsfree in my lap or against chair arm) and great for reading in bed. When I want to take the Ipad in my handbag, just pop it out and carry in Apple case. Still love it, don't want smaller (I have a Touch) and won't upgrade next generation.

iPad's weight? ROTF. Good luck picking up a girl in your arms.

By the way, if you hate Apple products, why are you here?

held with both hands outstretched in front of me while running at full speed. that or velcroed to the ceiling of my car.

I've played with the Galaxy Tab and honestly because it its size there is no compelling reason to choose it over a Driod X. The screen isn't large enough to make browsing that much easier; and I might as well just use my Droid X, which I am more likely to have with me. However, the larger iPad makes all the difference to me. Since no company makes a good 7" and 10" tablet there is no proof that the smaller tablets are the cash cow that people like you think they are. The curved back is far superior to a flat back as it make picking the thing up easier, and it doesn't make it less awkward than any other tablet.

Precisely. That's the purpose of this thread. To identify how to deal with what is a rather awkward slab of aluminum and glass.

All tablets are awkward. Its the nature of the beast unless you go with some itty bitty cheap plastic thing. I would choose a larger, slightly heavier one made from quality materials.

The Galaxy Tab looks and feels like a toy. I would take the iPad anytime instead of the Galaxy Tab.

I got the Apple case for my iPad and it makes it easy to hold in any position. It doesn't tire your hands when holding it in portrait mode.

+1 I'm typing this on my iPad with my new case and it's soooo comfortable both in and out of bed, especially with my new apple case. I can put it at a angle to watch movies, type or read. Even while laying down (well, it's still hard to type while laying down on my side obviously) :p

I find it most comfortable while lying down. The ipad is half a pound too heavy I think..
