Not much chance of that happening any time soon so I checked the boxes and there’s no pads. I must have used them both.
Cool...literally ;) Thanks for looking. Those enclosures are quite nice! There's more room for cooling than in the USB-C 3.2 Sabrent (also nice, half plastic) ones they're replacing. And with the speed difference they don't "get the chance" to heat up quite as much. Winner winner..chicken dinner :)

Just make sure the thermalpad(s) touches the case so that the heat can dissipate. You want the ssd to be pretty snug in there. The case should get warm since samsung ssds tend to run pretty hot.
Did you also use both the supplied 0.5 and 1.0 mm thermal pads on top of each other?

I also use Samsung 990 Pro, but 1TB. This stick is definitely hotter than other SSD like Crucial.
But I also find out the temp is depending on enclosure too.
It seems enclosure with ASM2464PD chip tends to be warmer compared to the ones with JHL7440 chip. But ASM chip provide "faster" R/W.

I own both Satechi TB4 and OWC 1M2 Express enclosure.
Crucial P3 Pro SSD on OWC enclosure is about 10 degree cooler compared to Samsung 990 Pro on Satechi enclosure when idle.
I then switch them up. Samsung 990 on OWC enclosure is about 5 degree cooler compared to when it's on Satechi.
Crucial is about 5 degree warmer on Satechi compared to when it's on OWC.

TBH, my Crucial X9 Pro external SSD is much cooler during 1TB copy for about 19 minutes compared to these enclosures. Yeah the R/W isn't as fast as TB4 enclosure, but for average folks like me who only uses it for day-to-day file copy, I won't tell the difference.

....and OWC 1M2 Express enclosure.
So how are you finding them, certainly appears some heft to them compared to the traditionally boxy designs. They've just been released , even more recently on Amazon.com. Whilst they materialized I had some Acasis TB coming and madly scrambled to search for availability in the EU. No sign on Amazon DE, OWC dealers around the country, were'nt aware of them even. The Part number starts with US so I wonder if that'll be the main or excusive market. On OWC's store it even said a max of 2 per customer.

Edit: I've feeling if the 1M2 do make it to the EU then they'll probably cost with VAT 19% and heavier weight, around €170...just a wild educated guess. If the do enter that market.

Edit2: do you mind taking a pic of the Acasis next to the 1M2, just to gauge how they compare outside measurements.

Aye, it does. I used the thicker of the two pads and it's definitely touching the case - It's a very snug fit.
Oh you already spoke of it earlier on. Just the 1mm pad then. missed that entry when I asked before.

I own Satechi, not Acasis.
I bought the OWC directly from their US site.
Here are the OWC on the left, and Satechi on the other side. Hopefully these pics help.

I must have gone back and fitted the other pad after because they’re definitely not in the boxes and that’s where they would have been. I haven’t looked back but was that before I fitted the heatsink?

I use a InaTeck encloser cost under $30 last year and works well with the macmini m1.
mostly the MNVe drives are only Time Machine back ups for both m1 computers.

I would upgrade this to a OWC or Satechi one, but my Macs needed other things instead.

I went with a cheap USB4 NVMe enclosure from Maiwo based on the Asmedia ASM2464PD controller chip. They have the K1695 and the K1717. It set me back $70 with taxes and shipping in EU.

This is the performance I get from it, which I would call very cost effective.

Ok got ya. The Satachi isn't that much smaller. The OWC looks just so much cleaner. Anecdotally, I immediately thought the look akin to the wall radiators here in the EU. Nice.

That or Amazon US seems to be the only possibility at the moment. I did see that retroactively they also added metric dimensions also, so perhaps it's coming into other markets.

I've "calmed" down a bit with fomo as I see that the OWC's, as cool as they are, quite substantially larger than the Acasis. Have the 1M2 measured about the size of an 13 Mini with the height of a MagSafe battery attached lol.

I'd love them on a desk but my enclosures will be exclusively for backups as DAS, on the go and rotating to offsite locations. No cooling fins to catch on, light, small. Again, on a desk these (OWC) would definitely be my first choice.

You definitely get the best bang for the buck. Fast R/W and cooler temp too 👍

which enclosure do you prefer?

Between the 2, I'd pick OWC in terms of cooler temp.

I'm using SD! to mirror my Internal to a TBU405 (just a SKHP31 inside) . . . anything I can highlight for you?
That's kind of you but yesterday I received two of those Acasis for SD cloning (off and on-site) and have sent back the Sabrent USB-C 3.2 type for various reasons. I'll even get a third one once the return is refunded. Even TM was a speed demon with those quick SSD's I have but I guess as my internal isn't a slouch either and resources weren't overly affected.

Getting those NVMe firmware updated..that's another matter.

Thank you

You're welcome :)

great built quality. Do you by any chance recall still, if you fitted both the supplied 1 mm and 0.5 mm thermal pads on top of each other?

Just the 1mm

Definitely attaches well to the back-plate of the TBU405, as it was rather difficult to remove when I moved one nvme over to the Maiwo (which has a quick-release back-plate that feels less secure).

That Express 1M2 is some seriously-awesome looking bit of kit :)
Cannot really see a huge imprint of the 1 mm thermal pad onto the SSD, hence wondered if 1.5 mm be the better way to go.

1M2: It is, just doesn't seem available outside the US. I'm at piece with it now as it's quite much larger than the Acasis and for my couching use. On a desk however, it would be fabulous.

The Express 1M2 is available in the UK from OWC's authorised outlets, Flexx and Megamac. Starting from £115 for a bare enclosure.

that's interesting, would have guessed Amazon.uk be the first. Rang some importers/ stockists of OWC gear, here in DE and they had no information or even awareness of the product.

I {infamously} installed a Sabrent 2080 m.2 to a Syntec 'long-adapter' with discernible 'bowing' in my 2015 13" MBP with no thermal pad, with much cringe along-the-way:

It performs just fine ;)

I would probably not put the 1M2 in my pocket (or bag), but it is an exceptionally sexy unit ;)

It's shaped like a wing and will therefore be subject to undergo the Venturi effect of air rushing past at a higher velocity. You're onto something ;) Forced induction cooling if you will.
