I'd have to say these:

U2
Coldplay

I don't see anything special in either band, but they're adored by many and have some level of prestige they carry.

You had to be there.
They changed the face of music over the years, more than Elvis or anyone else.

Doesn't matter a bit to me- I wasn't there, nor would I want to be. Just don't prefer them myself, don't care if you all do. Opinion is relative and while I may be the minority on this topic it doesn't discredit my opinion.

Oh boy, sir have no idea about being in the 60's listening to The Beatles off a vinyl record.

It's ok - I can't stand them either. I thought I was the only one!

I can't stand them either. Yes, I understand their significance but that's doesn't mean I want to listen to their crap. The majority of my music collection is quite old considering my age, but not those guys.

Really? To quote what someone else said about Tool earlier...

No ******* way.

Rush is amazingly talented, and while their solo projects may not have been as good (Lifeson's "Victor" and Lee's "My Favorite Headache"), they're like Queen in that they've had SO many hit songs and unless you just aren't into prog rock, most people who hear them tend to like their music.

+10 here. Wow some of the bands named astonish me-others not.

So basically anyone who hates what I like is an idiot and whoever likes what I like is cool and hip. :p

Seriously seems people are confusing overrated and bad.

On that note agree with U2, Nickelback, all boys bands, Beiber.

I could have a long, long list but I keep it short with:

U2
&
Radiohead

oh, and Oasis

Radiohead and Oasis!??? you're out of your mind. Radiohead on the other hand are THE most boring POS i've ever heard. They had like 2 good songs and then they all went to ****

I'd like to nominate:

Coldplay, Muse and how about Green Day. Nvm about GD, thought you said sellouts lol
Nickelback... i don't think any sane person thinks they're actually good so yeah... They just suck.

Overrated: Bob Marley and Eric Clapton

(Oh yes, and U2, Oasis, Take That etc.)

Dave Mustaine thinks too highly of himself, that's true...but Megadeth as a band were never popular enough to be "overrated".

If anything, maybe they were a bit underrated by most people, because Metallica overshadowed everything they ever did.

True - Metallica have done nothing of note for the last 15 years. Lars's drumming isn't what it used to be, and Hammet's solos are rubbish - just some noodling over a wah-wah pedal.

Megadeth have never really been 'rated', but they have achieved much better consistency than Metallica, and they're still producing good stuff. 'Washington is next' has the same energy and vitality as 'Peace Sells'.

Your personal opinion takes nothing away from the actual pleasure that many people get from listening to her music. Guess what, that is all that counts. Bad music in your book is good in someone elses. Get over it.

So we can't have an opinion on what we think is bad or overrated? Well, then. If we can't have opinions, what's the point of even having discussions?

Opinions are fine, but I don't see many, mainly assertions. Express your opinion as such, not as fact. Calling a band overrated doesn't make any sense. It implies that your opinion is somehow worth more than the opinion of those who rate the band highly.

sex pistols

This is an interesting case. Their one LP was just okay, and their image was primarily manufactured by Malcolm McLaren, Jamie Reid and Vivienne Westwood, but they were of course hugely influential.

I have to say the second wave of 70's UK punk produced much more interesting music, starting with Wire and continuing on with Johnny Lydon's own Public Image Limited.

I'm going to get flack for these but:

1. Pink Floyd
2. Nirvana / all grunge
3. Nickleback
4. The Rolling Stones (and yes I like them)

Pink Floyd? are you ****ing serious? Maybe one of the best bands to ever exist.

As for Nickleback I don't think anyone considers them good to begin with.

Just my opinion - I can't get into them. Where I live my local radio station plays Floyd or Nickelback constantly so that may have to do with me thinking they are overrated.

It's a simple fact, MOST young people don't get the music I like (Woodstock generation). Just like I don't get the music of today. Everybody's entitled to their opinion.

I'm 27 and my favorite bands are as follows:

The Beatles, The Doors, Led Zep, Queen, Kiss, Crue, Metallica (old).

Pink Floyd just doesn't do it for me
