i would say coldplay and u2 :)

also green day their bad but so many people like them. people think that their punk but no band is punk any more. the sex pistol are punk rock.

nivana also, i know that everyone likes them and stuff, i never really got into them. my brother listen to them all time i dont how he can stand it

I totally agree with these choices. I'd add Metallica (they have some good songs, but trash metal is worth its name IMHO) and Slipknot (commercial crap).

THE BEATLES. I will say they had a few decent songs, but for the most part it was nonsense. Eight days a week and yellow submarine are two such examples.

Oh no, this thread is back? So you don't like a particular band? It's a matter of personal opinion, nothing more. None of these band are 'overrated'. The millions of people who love their music is all that counts.

Pretty much all pop and rap.

Pretty much all rap, yes, don't much care for hip hop or heavy metal, but worst of all is the very idea of the boy band. The creature who dreamt up this triumph of marketing - which is nothing more than planned assassination of artistic and creative endeavours - really deserves one of the prizes for most over-rated band of all time.

The Beatles, Michael Jackson.

Agreed!

That's not very jolly of you, Jimmy. This thread is all in fun, right?

Millions of people probably loved Friday by Rebecca Black...that does not mean it was good or that it counts. We cannot use the 9-14 year old girl crowd as a measure of good music.

EDIT: Oh, and I agree with whoever said "Muse". The day I never have to hear the song "Uprising" again will be a new era. Quite possibly one of the most horrible songs ever recorded...it makes my ears bleed.

Your personal opinion takes nothing away from the actual pleasure that many people get from listening to her music. Guess what, that is all that counts. Bad music in your book is good in someone elses. Get over it.

Really? To quote what someone else said about Tool earlier...

No ******* way.

Rush is amazingly talented, and while their solo projects may not have been as good (Lifeson's "Victor" and Lee's "My Favorite Headache"), they're like Queen in that they've had SO many hit songs and unless you just aren't into prog rock, most people who hear them tend to like their music.

+1 Metallica. And maybe Megadeth.

Dave Mustaine thinks too highly of himself, that's true...but Megadeth as a band were never popular enough to be "overrated".

If anything, maybe they were a bit underrated by most people, because Metallica overshadowed everything they ever did.
