Saw "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" over the weekend. It was great to see Mulder and Scully settle into middle age. For fans of the old show, it's definitely worth a look. The plot is about average ... Really glad I didn't drop $10 in a theater, but it's OK for a rental.

Also saw "Revolutionary Road." Stay away. Horrendous. Great acting. Ridiculous plot. BUT, if you want to see Kate Winslet in a great role, check out "The Reader."

$5 says this movie hasn't been seen/heard from a multitude of people.

I recommend it above all my recommendations in this thread. :D

I saw these two films the other day and thought there were great

Bronson - Its like a modern day version of a clockwork orange but the plot is based on a true story but the level of acting from the lead man is top notch

Zack and Miri make a porno - just funny as hell the cast was great

This one's been sitting in my netflix queue for a while now, I should really get around to watching it as it's available for streaming.

I watched a movie called Unknown yesterday that was pretty good. A bunch of guys wake up in a warehouse, 3 are dazed, 1 is handcuffed and shot hanging from a pole, the other is tied to a chair, yet none of them remember anything about who they are or what they are doing there. It wasn't bad. Greg Kinnear, Jim Caviezel and a couple other faces I recognized from other stuff.

I heard about it! Isn't it on his website? It sounds really good, and very "Lynch".

I'm sure it is on his website- everything he does is. I had joined up a few years ago for a few months and there was a lot of stuff on it back then, I can only imagine how much is on there now. If you are a real die hard Lynch fan the site is well worth the money. Especially when Lynch himself joins the chat room and warns people not to give away clues to his puzzles:cool:
Haven't got around to watching the film/doc yet but will keep you posted.

AMC the other night premiered "Firewall" with Harrison Ford and Paul Bettany. This is turning into a one of my fave guilty pleasures.

The movie got rotten reviews. Wholly undeserved. It's a great little thriller with a nicely twisty plot.

Harrison Ford is perfect as a middle aged computer geek. The gizmo he cooks up from the guts of a fax machine and an iPod is brilliant (I'm sure there's no way he could have cooked up a hardward interface in his basement, but it was pretty cool). Bettany is great as a bad guy. Even the dog does its part well.

And I love the big fight at the end. You can tell it pains Ford to throw every punch but he's doing it to save his family. Absolutely great.

^ I liked Firewall, as well. It doesn't get much slack mainly because of the aging Harrison Ford, or at least that's what I believe.

Anyhow, any other films you all would recommend?

You can't ever have enough movies to watch.

;)

M. Night Shyamalan is a one-trick hack. Terrible movies since the Sixth Sense. (...and even that idea was based on an Are You Afraid of the Dark? episode.) I can't believe a studio gave him the greenlight to direct Avatar: The Last Airbender.

While you could say that the twist-ending stuff is getting old, fact remains that people still miss the point of "The Village".

This may have been posted earlier, but I just watched a movie called Primer, which was absolutely fantastic. It was about time travel but took a very realistic and human approach to the subject. A very confusing movie the first time through, subsequent watches are recommended.

Adam. It only got a limited release, and no big ad campaign, but it is a very good film IMO (a lot coming from me since I usually hate the romance genre :p) and, unlike most films featuring autism, it's not stupidly exaggerated and "Rain Man" like.

I agree wholeheartedly that Donnie Darko is in no way underrated or overlooked. Rather, it's pretty popular.

Let me add some more (quite indie) stuff:

The Squid and the Whale
The Science of Sleep
Franklyn
Dear Zachary
Ghost Dog (Forest Whittaker = amazing in this)

Ghost Dog is awesome and Forest Whittaker was def the best actor in the movie, though the funniest might have been the French Ice Cream guy

For the underappreciated/underrated categories:

- Dumb and Dumber
- any Rodney Dangerfield movie

:D

Idiocracy.. That movie was just hilarious and created an underground cult. If you've seen the movie already, DRINK SOME BRAWNDO!

Funny this thread should get revived. I'll jump in. Two documentaries:

1. Anvil! The Story of Anvil. This movie lived up to the (non?) hype VH1 Classic was giving, despite being the biggest documentary in UK history. It will make you laugh and cry pretty much at the same time from the hell that band put themselves through to make it. Yet it shows you not only their determination as a band, but the meaning of true friendship and brotherhood. Metal doesn't hit home any better.

2. A League of Ordinary Gentlemen. Tracks the lives of 4 - 5 different people on the Professional Bowlers Tour. One trying to chase a legend, one trying to live outside the shadow of his father (another PBA legend), one trying to provide for his wife and family after her world comes crashing down (the Women's pro bowlers tour shut down), and one former champion trying to hold on to his past glory and avoid bankruptcy. All of them touching stories, all of them easily able to earn your respect in a less commercial, branded sport.

All worth a watch.
