These are movies that I consider somewhat underrated or overlooked mainly because my friends either haven't seen/heard of them or I thought they were amazing for what they were yet other people didn't, so take from this list what you will.

Automaton Transfusion - Very low budget "zombie"-type movie
Battle Royale - Asian film, kids are taken to an island and forced to kill each other until only one remains.
Black Christmas (original) - Possibly the birth of the slasher film. Killer stalks a sorority house for reasons unknown.
The Blair Witch Project - Under appreciated now, but was ground breaking at the time. Saw it in the theater and didn't know if it was real or fake for the longest time, it was also the first movie to run a successful viral marketing campaign on the internet. (most profitable movie of all time as well)
Brick - Hard to explain this one, just a cool movie.
Cube - Great lower budget Canadian horror/sci-fi movie, reminds me a little of SAW, just a little. A bunch of people wake up in a room and have no clue how they got there... the whole movie is about them trying to get out. The sequel isn't terrible, but not as good, and the prequel is down right awful.
District B13 - Action mixed with a ton of parkour
The Fountain - I didn't really care for it the first time watching, but after watching it again I enjoyed it more.
High Tension (Haute Tension) - Original and US version are almost the same, and despite the cop out ending I thought it was underrated.
The Host - Mutated whale/fish creature terrorizes the banks of a river in the middle of a city. Another Asian flick.
Ichi The Killer - And yet another Asian flick... Dude kills people with blades on his shoes.
Oldboy - Guy gets kidnapped and then released 15+ years later and vows to find who kidnapped him and get revenge. The ending is completely ****ed up. Heard rumblings of a US remake, ugh.
The Orphanage (which someone mentioned already) - Great Spanish horror/suspense.
Pan's Labyrinth - while it had some success, I still think it's underrated
Splinter - Came out last year, probably one of the better horror movies I've seen lately.
Sunshine (as mentioned before) - I thought the whole thing was pretty good even with the weird "Event Horizon" type ending act.
The Thing - Probably one of the best horror movies ever made that still stands up to viewings today and one of my favorite movies.

Cube was a fun watch, but I agree on the sequels too. They just went downhill too fast. Was Zero Cube (or something) the latest one? So terrible.

The Departed and No Country For Old Men are underrated?

Not to mention Sin City and Layer Cake, the latter launching Daniel Craig's career.

In Bruges, though, absolutely.

I think No Country For Old Men was one of the most OVERrated films I've ever had the boring displeasure of sitting through. Utter crap, IMO.

In Bruges was pretty good, I forgot about that one. Good addition to the thread.

I concur that some of the movies I mentioned are a little not-so overlooked, but those movies I have seen and thought were absolutely amazing, yet absolutely no one I know has seen them either.

In my opinion, No Country for old Men was really very good, but I can totally understand why someone would find it boring. And In Bruges, just f---ing brilliant don't you think? lol

Yeah Cube Zero was absolutely terrible. The whole mystery to the movie is taken away as soon as the film makers take you outside of the cube itself.

I guess I've been on a Kristen Stewart film exploration after seeing her in Adventureland (definitely recommend +++).

So, yeah, checking out her other stuff, especially Speak.

When Thanksgiving rolls around, check out "Pieces of April." It proves Katie Holmes does know how to act. And it also has one of my favorite actors, Oliver Platt.

Oscar (Sylvester Stallone comedy - HILARIOUS)

I spent an evening at a friend's house years ago and wanted to leave somewhere around 10pm, but for whatever reason we wanted to check out "Oscar", being a comedy and starring Stallone and all... boy, what a show!

Boondock Saints.. Love this film... Love it!

+1 :)

About David Lynch... "Lost Highway" was like the most boring movie I have ever seen. I like using my brain every now and then when watching movies, but I don't like it getting squeezed out like an orange just to feel like an idiot for not being able to understand the plot. Or maybe it wasn't meant to be understood in the first place.

In The Mood For Love (Fa yeung nin wa) - Absolutely amazing film, perfect in every way.

El Topo - Totally insane, a must see.

Fire (Aag) - Indian film (not Bollywood) that caused rioting due to its content.

Devdas - Most expensive and spectacular Bollywood film ever made.

Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom - Best film ever made on the horrors of Fascism.

Hmmm... I have a few I find to fit the bill, they may or may not have already been mentioned.

The Big Lebowski
Sione's Wedding (Samoan Wedding)
The Believer
The Wonder Boys
Airheads
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Oldboy - Guy gets kidnapped and then released 15+ years later and vows to find who kidnapped him and get revenge. The ending is completely ****ed up. Heard rumblings of a US remake, ugh.

This is one of the best movies ever. BTW, the remake is going to happen, Steven Spielberg is teaming up with Will Smith.

Which is why I said "ugh", don't get me wrong Spielberg is a talented director, but Will Smith? With those 2 names attached to it there is no way that the original ending that was so great in Oldboy is going to make it to a big hollywood movie. As much as I don't want it to, I have a feeling it's going to fail miserably.

I want it to be awesome, but I have a feeling it will be far from it.

Lynch's favorite thing to do is put stumbling blocks in your way. He distracts you from what's really happening and doesn't spell it out. Here's a clue- the first part of Lost Highway is reality, the second part is a fantasy made up in Fred Madison's mind. The same technique is used in Mulholland Drive, only it's the first part of the film that is fantasy. I think you can figure it out from there. Lynch loves to analyze and complicate the mundane, so that it becomes interesting. Always keep that in mind when watching his films.

have you seen his new documentary of his? I thinks its called "one". My friend just lent it to me and had nothing but praises for it. Mind you were both BIG Lynch fans.

Somebody please watch this, and share my joy!

Son Of Rambow
My girlfriend brought the DVD of this round and we watched most of it, but I just couldn't go on. It just wasn't funny. Talk about trying too hard? I prefer black humour in movies and can't be bothered with anything shallow or slapstick, so this movie just didn't do it for me. I can, however, see the appeal it would have for young children.

Brødre from Susanne Bier. Trailer.
There seems to be a remake called "Brothers", the original title at least, but the trailer was missing the unnerving-ness and music.

Also Efter brylluppet (after the wedding), from Susanne Bier too. Trailer.
And Elsker dig for evigt, again from Susanne Bier.

Lilja 4-ever, F_u_c_k_ing Åmål and Ett hål i mitt hjärta (a hole in my heart) by Lukas Moodysson.
