Most up to date OS for G5?

Well after searching, I am having a hard time seeing what the most current OS is that I can run on my PowerMac G5.

Obviously we are going to be talking about a Linux distro, but I'm just not sure which one.

Awesome thanks for the information. I'm guessing any kind of Ubuntu is out of the question at this point?

Latest version of Lubuntu for PowerPC is 16.04... There even is an early version of Ubuntu mate 17.04 for PowerPC iirc, but it was quickly discontinued. So you won't find it easily and even if you found it there would not be packages for it...

16.04 being the 3-year LTS option still has another 6 months of dedicated support. My Ubuntu Mate 16.04 System is current and updated on my G5.

Debian Sid in Ports....
Bear in mind that Sid is highly unstable at most times, even on newer Intel hardware...

MorphOS will be the fastest but they are extremely picky when it comes to G5 system requirements.

Just throwing this in because of the absurd speed boost you'll get.
