Read this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6546079?start=105&tstart=0 people there talked with Apple and got an answer. Location arrow - using M8. If you turn motion data off, everything is going to work, but your walking + running distance may not be AS accurate.

If your battery is draining really fast, talk to Apple, they'll give you link to do a diagnostics test, after that you'll know what to do.

i am not sure those folks in the AD thread actually got a fix for this. most seem to glance over the fact that when you reset the phone by default the locations arrow option is off so yeah you don't see it anymore.

my issues started with an update to the Jawbone UP24 App. that app when connected to Health seems to be running the gps constantly causing the force to over heat, lock up, and drain the battery.

I haven't disabled it and my battery is just fine. I even restored my iPhone 6 to 5's backup.

Thanks for the above info!

I experimented with my phone and settings. I disabled all but the top four and see icon on icon bar in system services. Since adjusting my settings, my battery life is normal and I do not access location services via motion etc.... In other words, problem solved! At least for me.

But if a user relies on motion calibration then results may vary.

So Can anyone confirm that in spite of turning motion calibration off, the steps and distance works just fine? Also the flights?

Because I just got my iPhone 6 and is constantly using the location. The battery is not all that bad but yet i know for sure that it can improve if location is not always on.

I really don't understand a thing here, I turned off and on location services and the health app just keeps recording my distance and steps, with or without location services on and the accuracy is the same in both cases. Regarding the photo, the phone was charged up to 100%.

The motion processor is always on and always counting your steps. You can't turn this off. Not sure what motion calibration is. Before that option and before the health app. On my 5s I downloaded a step counter app and it could see a 7 day history with all my steps. So the phone has already counting before I even had an app for it.

It calibrates the motion sensor for walking/running using GPS data, just like (old) Nike+ sensors.

"In order to get the best results from your Nike+ Running Sensor, you'll need to record a calibration workout outdoors before using your SportWatch GPS indoors. An outdoor calibration workout allows your SportWatch GPS to use GPS data, which is highly accurate, to fine-tune the sensor for stand-alone use indoors."
