The patent wars in the technology industry are heating up again, with Motorola today announcing that it has filed suit against Apple over alleged infringement of a number of patents by a broad range of Apple products, including the iPhone, iPad, "iTouch" (presumably iPod touch), and certain Mac computers.
Overall, Motorola Mobility's three complaints include 18 patents, which relate to early-stage innovations developed by Motorola in key technology areas found on many of Apple's core products and associated services, including MobileMe and the App Store. The Motorola patents include wireless communication technologies, such as WCDMA (3G), GPRS, 802.11 and antenna design, and key smartphone technologies including wireless email, proximity sensing, software application management, location-based services and multi-device synchronization.
In addition to the multiple lawsuits, Motorola has also filed complaints with the U.S. International Trade Commission, seeking to prevent importation and sale of the infringing products.

The suit comes just five days after Motorola found itself on the receiving end of a lawsuit from Microsoft over alleged patent infringement with its Android-based smartphones.

See there! The CLIFFS OF INSANITY!

So, if you can't beat them, sue them.

Of course shame on Apple if it really was naughty. :(

It bugs me a little when people call the iPod Touch the "iTouch" - but you'd think they'd at least get the name right in an official lawsuit!

I didn't realise Kodak even made mobile phones:eek:. I'll have to do some research, they are suing five other companies, so their phones must have tonnes of features:confused:

I thought everyone was peaceful… for some reason it feels like when Apple entered the picture, the status quo was unsettled and the world came tumbling down.

The moment I saw this in my feed...

I thought how useful a diagram like the one up there would be in making sense of this madness. Good grief.

It's like in those movies where a bunch of characters are all standing around pointing guns at each other in a stalemate. Yeah, kind of like that.

Oracle and Elan have it good when the bullets start flying.:D

My guess on Kodak would relate to the camera and picture items and sharing/dealing with said items.

synopsis

The best way to summarize that chart...Nokia's suing as many companies as they can.

And really, Kodak? I've never heard of a Kodak phone.

Rediculous! I don't see Motorola actually building any of the devices they are saying that Apple is infringing upon.

I guess it's like someone else already said, "If you can't beat 'em, sue 'em!"

How different from the days when Apple and Motorola were partners on many projects (680x0, PPC, iTunes phone)...
