The charts are missing the ultimate losers in this situation...consumers who will end up paying more for the products, as legal costs are passed along. It also leaves out the ultimate winners...a few lawyers who are going to end up with their own private jets and vacation homes.

The lawyers always win.

Insert Rodney King plea here:

Why Can't We All Just Get Along?

FYI...Rodney King went on to better himself and after graduating from low school is is now a Federal patent judge.

Only reason why Kodak isn't suing Moto is probably because of the Motorola Z5 a 5mp camera phone with a Kodak sensor(or at least Kodak's name on camera cover).

Beyond "the patent system is broken" comment, I actually find it interestng to see who ISN'T suing and who ISN'T being sued, like the previous commenter about Microsoft.

At least The Guardian graphic was grammatically correct :D

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-gb; Dell Streak Build/ERE27) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)

Samsung have remained pretty much unscathed in this lawsuit craziness.
I wonder where this will all end?

Weird

Its weird how all these companies that sue apple own these patents somehow never had a product that utilized them. Until the iPhone. Then, oh that was mine no that was mine lol HMMMM how iterating.

Thats actually very common. There are hundreds of thousands of patents out there for ideas that probably have never come to market, then some other company comes up with the same idea…

The wholes system is fumed up. There should be a law that say if the patent isn't put into a marketed product within (say) 5 years, then its open for all to use by default. (Maybe there is such a law, no idea).

According to the "much nicer chart" (below), Nokia is suing apple for violating 3G & WiFi patents, among other things. According to the article, Motorola is suing Apple for violating 3G & WiFi patents, among other things. How can that be? Do Nokia & Moto have JOINT patent ownership?

It's just like most medical lawsuits these days: throw s**t against the wall and see what sticks. Only one way out: loser pays all legal expenses.

I think we as a forum should patent even faster wireless internet than is currently available. That way we own 5g when it comes.

What a fraking mess! It's amazing how many of these patents are for email, cameras and image technology. This patent business is a mess that only benefits large companies. How is anyone, especially a small developer, supposed to innovate around this mine field?
