It looks gorgeous!

But ... I got the RAZR when it first came out and I was so disappointed. The menus, UI and general (un)friendliness was just unbearable.

Motorola = Crapedo. I now use the SE K750i.

The SLVR is a good looking phone, pity Motorola messed up the UI. :(

The Sony Ericsson W810i will whip this phone so hard it is not even funny.

It's sure better looking than the ROKR, but still no bulls eye, when's the V3i going to be released on Cingular? That might generate some interest, although it's really lost lots of interest to me ever since it was released, when it was released it looked like it was an "awesome phone", now it just seems like a phone that they could "do better" on

Like I said in the other thread about this, I'm glad I didn't wait for this any longer than I did. I bought the ROKR for $80 from Buy.com (free after rebate), and it's ok. Not of the issues I have with it have been fixed in this model. USB 1, VGA cam, crappy interface, 100 song limit, and even worse battery life because it's thinner. The ROKR is fine as a phone, and the battery life is good, so unless it dies, I'm sticking with it until something better comes along. Like an Apple phone. :D

the RAZR V3i is coming soon (i hope it will be the V3ci verizon and itunes, doubt it). Just when is the question.

what is the difference between the razor v3c and the v3i? Aren't they both part of the same version?

I just got a razr v3c and the interface is completely workable for me, and i have never heard any complaints about it from my friends who have razrs. Obviously, Motorola cleaned it up over three generations of that phone, and they wouldn't bother putting the bad interface in the SLVR

V3c is the Verizon CDMA version
V3i is the GSM Version

For those of you who complained that SE doesn't have anything good to replace your T610/616, take a look at the K750i.
Sadly not available in the US. For some reason cell phone carriers here don't believe that people need choice when picking phones, so you're limited to whatever crap Samsung/Motorola flip phones are available. Getting a decent candybar phone is almost impossible, the T637 was the last one released and I own one.

The only thing that makes me interested in this phone is the fact that its a new candybar phone available in the US, a rare thing. If only Motorola's UI didn't make baby Jesus cry.

motorola-phones are trash! bad ui, techs specs etc...

get a sonyericsson or a nokia instead.

There is no reason to have a vga camera in a premium phone. 1mp at least. I really can't stand moto. Why not a partnership with SE, much more adventerous company.
You do realize that the "S" part of SE is Sony, right? In the music arena, Sony is a competitor to Apple. There's absolutely no way that SE will make an iTunes phone. A Sony Connect phone, sure, but iTunes, not a chance.

Incidentally, if you look at all of the partnerships, Motorola is the only phone company that logically works with Apple. Nokia has ties with Microsoft. Samsung has ties with Napster. SE - see above. LG mainly deals with Verizon and Sprint, so no dice there.

So Apple is left with Moto. The only other option would be to manufacture their own phone, which some people are saying will happen. Personally, I don't believe it. I'm not sure if Apple could make money selling cell phones or running their own cell phone network. Better to sell iPods and work with Moto on the iTunes interface.

I received a SLVR recently from a relation that works for Motorola and it does not come with iTunes but rather a "Digital Audio Player" that seems to be essentially the same. However, it is proving troublesome to link it up with my iBook. I have managed to pair the two but I am told that there are no supported features with this phone. Somewhat strange. (I'm in the UK btw)

I have been using a SE K700i recently (until the screen became partially cracked) and if it weren't for the fact that the SLVR was free, there's no way I would have chosen it. The motorola UI just seems horrible in comparison to the SE's.

i have an SE T610 and love it, but it's getting outdated. I use it with my iBook and Salling Clicker for powerpoint presentations, and I use the accessory laser pointer that plugs into its bottom, it's just perfect.

For those of you who complained that SE doesn't have anything good to replace your T610/616, take a look at the K750i. It's got a 2MP camera with flash, bluetooth 2.0, candybar design just like the T610/616, and a memory stick slot for gigs of mp3s. It works nicely with Salling Clicker and I think it'll take those accessory laser pointers as well :)

That's exactly the move that I made as well. The Sony Ericsson T610 was alright, but the K750i is many times better, due to its improved phone reception, better camera, inclusion of memory stick duo etc etc. I also use mine every night to turn off my Mac when I've finished watching the Simpsons or whatever, thanks to our old friend Salling Clicker. It is actually quite musically capable if you can't afford an iPod, and it even plays AAC files.

However, it is still reliant on the joystick that was the achilles heel of the T610, and the joystick on my K750i has already developed problems from occasional use on java Splinter Cell. I wish Sony Ericsson would go to one of those rocker D-pads like you get on modern Nokias, just for durability's sake.

All they did was make an imitation RAZR! UGH. It's still hideous now, it just has a nice keypad. Why buy this crap, wait (if it's not out yet) and get the new RAZR V3 or whatever it's called that has iTunes playback! Feh.

The Motorola SLVR attempts to address some of the issues which had marred Motorola's first attempt at an iTunes-compatible phone -- the ROKR.

Naming a phone for a formerly fat weatherman was a big mistake. Maybe the "gastric bypass" crowd will go for the ROKeR, but most everyone else won't care.

I'm not so sure they're doing so much better with the SLVR. As a math geek, I am attracted to the SoLVeR, but I don't think many others will care.

Leave Moto Alone, it's Steve's fault

People, stop ragging on Moto for the 100 song limit. It's common knowledge that Apple did that to them, and they'd be happy to do without it -- if Steve would let them. In fact, the ROKR2 uses their own music service and has no song limit (aside from size).
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, if the Mobile iTunes thing flops with Motorola, it'll be because Apple keeps stabbing them in the back.

BTW, it's a slick looking phone, but like others, I want a flip phone, and iTunes with 100 songs and USB 1.1 (which Moto really should fix) isn't really useful... at all...

I saw a demo of this phone and man is it little...Almost too little. At first glance you would think Motorola took the black nano and just shoved a bigger screen on it w/ buttons and called it a phone. I like it, but I prefer a flip phone... but that is just my preference

I'm not going to repeat what you wrote but I completely agree with you.

I have a razr and think it's okay, glad I got it for free. I'd be upset if I paid full price... I'm not a fan of flip phones, never have. I do like the SLVR though, I'm glad Moto delayed its release, (which was supposed to be Q1 last year). I also like the removeable memory, and mp4 capture and playback feature. I'll get it when it's $70 or better yet, free.

Damn that's a sweet looking phone.

Here's the link for the ROKR 2: http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/05/video-feature-rokr-e2-hands-on/

The SLVR is NOT the ROKR 2. The SLVR is the candy bar version of the next generation of the RAZR line. It's a bit thinner than the RAZR, costs more, and isn't all that impressive unless you wanted to replace your NOKIA with a Motorola.

I'm using a Motorola MPx 220, and personally it's the best phone i've ever used (if you have the latest SW).

So what's the best phone out there then? I'm looking to upgrade. :D

dammit!

we need apple to allow other companies like Moto to let the consumer install as much ram card on the phone as they want.

ie, let the consumer put a 512, 1gb or 2gb memory card in there.

and not disable the ability of phone to play more than 100 songs.

this is the real crime here. More people will buy items like this if they are allowed to actually use them. not have handicapped use of 100 or less songs.

lameass of apple.
