So Motorola got there first with this. No headphone jack, just USB-C and an (included) adaptor.

It would seem the Apple rumours are likely true then? Unless parts for the Moto have been confused for possible iPhone parts?

Either way, I personally don't like where this is all going!

Make it so so thin we have to sacrifice basic functions .....

They have as I feared turned the Moto X into yet another thin slab.

But at the expense of a headphone jack (because they're really, really thick) and having the camera stick way out from the rear of the phone. Incredibly ugly and surely it'll rock like crazy when you're trying to type with it on a worktop.

Totally agree......there is no reason I have seen to justify the removal of the headphone jack other than to make the device thinner.......disappointing.....

This looks like the first year since the original Moto X that I won't be buying one (well since they are calling it moto Z, i guess Z really is dead). Gimmicky cases just are not what i want in a phone.

And by god it is now really UGLY

Oh great. Another phablet-only sized device

I would have actually liked the motomods (well, probably only the battery one). But on a 5" device.

Hideous. And the "moto" logo? No.

Lenova, I think, has failed the Motorola brand. I can't imagine this doing well. The mods are an interesting and safe approach to modularity, but not enough to drive sales, I think.

And a 2600 mah battery? Ugh.

I'm fine with no headphone jack, though. I always use bluetooth earphones anyway.

I loved my Moto X - the active display was the best. But the last version was just too big, so I opted for the Galaxy S7. Now they've released this, I suspect my time with Moto is well and truly over. It's ugly, too big and gimmicky. I am still yet to hear anyone say "My phone is just way too thick. I wish they'd make thinner ones." But manufacturers seem obsessed with making them as big as possible and as thin as possible.

Wasn't the unknown manufacturer of the Le Max2 the first to remove the headphone jack? They also came out with a rose gold version too.

Looks like a Galaxy S3 prototype. The button at the bottom looks crooked.

Those connector dots on the back for the modularity are hideous. The camera bump is hideous (why draw so much attention to it? At least with Apple, Samsung, and HTC, any bump is subtle and small). The "moto" logo on the front is an "HTC"-like mistake that they are foolishly repeating. The sensors still clutter the white device so much so that it basically means nobody would pick the white front face.

And two more Motorola logos on the back? So "moto" on front, "moto" on back on the camera, and the "M" logo?

So many things wrong with what was announced. I can't say I am very disappointed as I wasn't expecting much anyway. Now I can safely say I have zero interest.

Yeah the moto logo is just hideous. How could the Lenovo design team think that going from a clean front to that was a good change ?

Seriously. The Moto G4 looks so much better than this in terms of design.

How did the Moto Z get steered so far off course?

Unbelievable!! 2600 battery? On 2016? With a QHD resolution? Seriously? That's the main reason I want to sell my S6 and buy something with better battery life.

I just can't believe this...

BTW, what are those dots under the screen? They look like capacitive buttons, but the device has on screen buttons.

Oh, and that camera bump... Just get out of here Motorola/Lenovo...

So disappointed. Was really looking forward to the new Moto, mainly for the stock experience... Oh well, more reason to wait for the next Nexus I guess...

They are proximity sensors. But with the raised finger print sensor they do end up looking like buttons.

It seems the fantastic stereo speakers from the Style/Pure 2015 are long gone too ....

Big step backwards from last year's Moto X. I guess the X is dead.

And then there's this: http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2016/6/9/11895900/moto-z-droid-edition-verizon-exclusive

Moto's new phones are Verizon exclusives until the fall

The Moto Z and Moto Z Force will be sold as Droid Editions on Verizon when they launch this summer, making Verizon the only carrier in the world to offer the devices. An unlocked version of the Moto Z will be available in the US and other countries in the fall, but the Moto Z Force will remain an exclusive to Verizon.

I like it, especially the force! The mods look really cool. Too bad Verizon exclusive. Wouldn't touch that with a 100 ft pole.

I think your right....big let down about the X name. Looks hideous to me....the little FP scanner is ugly.
Then it will be full of VZW bloat......I swear they are the worst at carrier bloat.

unlocked Moto Z is coming "this fall". That is good to hear.

Best mod gets a million bucks? One-up LG for sure here. We will see some nice concepts.

I think they really missed an opportunity to turn that "M" logo (formerly the dimple) on the back into a fingerprint scanner.

Instead, they put it on the front of an already cluttered front panel.

Yeah don't like the logo. But I think the back looks awesome with the case. They really did a lot right here over the G5. They put these out unlocked at $450 or so, that would be awesome.

Exactly.....I see few design miscues from other OEMs as well. Like the lone speaker on the front just like the HTC 10 and the color mismatch on the LG G5. these design miscues are interesting.....they don't fit imho
