Mouse lag/not smooth on M1 Air. Any suggestions?

Nope. I'm the only user on my machine. There aren't even any other accounts set up.
And smooth as silk with the Apple Magic Mouses. I've got two Magic Mouse II's -- a white one from many years ago and a space gray one from a few months ago. Both work as smoothly as one could expect. Other BT mice will stutter every 5-10 seconds.

I have just tested the anywhere 2 bluetooth mouse with the macOS 12 beta on M1 MBA. It feels very smooth. No more stutter. Where the same mouse was stuttered on Big Sur every 10 seconds or so.
That's a good news, hopefully it is going to keep it that way to the final.

Hmmm - so no more microstuttering with a BT mouse every 10 secods or so? That is fantastic news.
 
I had this issue, which seems to have cleared with 11.5.1 - weirdly, my trackpad always felt "sticky" now it doesn't. Suggests there was some sort of haptic touch(?) issue going on.
 
I had a 2016 MBP and now a 2018 MBP. Both of them stutter with wireless input devices and it's due to something causing wireless interference. I can't say for certain, but it appears to be the MBP itself and the way I've got it positioned.

I use mine in clam shell mode in a vertical stand most of the time and it's positioned to the left of my LG 5K display. My mouse is on my right.

I've noticed that the issues improve greatly if I move my laptop to the other side of my monitor so that the mouse and closed laptop are on the same side. Also if I lay the laptop horizontal, lag also decreases or goes away.

When the fans spin up, I'm much more likely to get wireless mouse lag as well. I don't think it's the fans themselves, but rather when the computer is spiking in power consumption. It's only a problem with Bluetooth input devices. I have the original Magic Mouse and Trackpad among my library of input devices. Both suffer from this issue.

I do have one wireless device that doesn't have a problem. It's the Logitech M570 trackball mouse that uses an external wireless USB adapter instead of Bluetooth. I presume the reason why that one's fine is because it uses an external wireless USB adapter so it's not affected by interference happening inside the laptop.

So before you go out and buy a new mouse or return your laptop, try repositioning the laptop.

In any case, I prefer a wired mouse anyway so going wired is a surefire way of fixing input lag.

I also have had this problem with an 8Gb 256Gb M1 MBA and now my 8Gn 512Gb M1 MBA. Someone in a different forum suggested it was because Logitech's software (Logitech Options for example) is currently Intel and running through Rosetta 2, whereas Apple's devices may be native.

With the mild stutters and lags, I could see this being an issue that feels more intrusive because pointing devices are delicate and noticeable.

This precedes the M1's. It's Bluetooth interference. I've had this problem ever since 2016 and can get it to go away by repositioning devices.

I have used 2011 MBA, 2017 12" Mb, and a 2019 16" MBP that all used intel chips and also did not have these issues with Bluetooth. I have even used windows laptops in the same configuration at the M1 MBA that did not see the level of lag and choppiness.

Apple even released an update specifically for M1 Macs to address Bluetooth issues. I'm pretty sure there is an issue somewhere with the Rosetta 2 translation of Logitech Options or Logitech software, or Apple's Bluetooth chip is somehow not up to par with intel configurations.

Again, I love Apple, but I was there when everyone with an iPhone 4 was dropping signal because we were all "holding the phone wrong". Sometimes, there really is an issue.

It's definitely got nothing to do with Rosetta. I have horrible BT performance with a Logitech mouse on my M1 MBA and do not have any Logitech mouse software installed.

We both have BT performance issues with Logitech mice on M1 MBA, I just mentioned that I there is a M1 BT issue here. I was just offering one suggestion.

I wouldn't make a statement of fact one way or another just yet.

There may indeed be software related issues going on too, but I've absolutely experienced physical interference on two MBPs in a row in exactly the same pattern with high CPU load and/or positioning of the laptop having an effect on the lag. The lag I experienced only happens upon spikes in CPU load. I presume something is happening electromagnetically as the load isn't excessive and doesn't cause any other UI lag other than a jumpy mouse cursor, but only for BT devices. A wired mouse or the built in trackpad don't have the same issue even when used at the same time as the BT mouse/trackpad.

Symptoms:
- Intermittent mouse lags and choppy
- Keyboard input also affected when mouse is in lag state
- Above problem manifest regardless whether bluetooth or dongle connection
- For bluetooth connection, sometimes the mouse disappear from bluetooth preference altogether

Solution:
- Disable "Shake mouse pointer to locate" under Settings -> Accessibility -> Display -> Cursor

Why it makes the mouse lag, I'm not sure. But it appears to be a OS bug or incompatibility with Logitech driver.

Edit: After more than a week of testing, this solution doesn't work.

I've used the Apple Mighty Mouse (or Magic - don't recall the name exactly), Logitech M500 (wired) and M510 (wireless) and have had no problems on the M1 mini.

These mice have also worked fine with my Late 2009 iMac 27, 2014 MacBook Pro 15 and 2015 MacBook Pro 15. I have no doubt that there are mice and keyboard issues but using really old hardware seems to decrease compatibility issues.

Since this is my first wireless mouse, I just assumed that this is a general problem with bluetooth mice rather than a problem that is specific to the M1 MacBook. Is that lag not normally supposed to be there with bluetooth mice?

That's not normal. I find a fraction of a second when I first move the mouse if I haven't used it in a while but I've used the Magic Mouse (or the Mighty Mouse - can't remember the name) with several Macs and performance has been fine. I also use wired Logitech and wireless Logitech with the dongle and performance is fine with those.
 
For anyone who has MacOS Monterey installed on their Mac, do you notice whether this update fixes the bluetooth mice stuttering issue?
 
I stopped using my Logitech bluetooth mouse all together a while ago due to random move and scrolll stutters.

I decided to try it again today and it seems a lot more smoother. I guess some of the recent updates have fixed some of the issues.

Now I really love the feel of the bluetooth mouse (I've been relying on built-in trackpad) and I shall start using it daily.
