I had been a long-time iPhone user, My XR died at the start of the year, I didn't have the money to buy a new iphone at the time so decided to purchase a cheap android (Realme 7Pro) while I saved up for a new iPhone.

Yesterday I went and got myself a brand new iPhone 11, I was excited and pleased for all of 5 mins, I have set it all up, been playing around with it but I am not feeling it and can't understand why. It costs almost 3 times as much as my cheapo Chinese phone, maybe its the build compared to my realme its big heavy and bulky, its got massive bezzles, then we have the notch and the screen just doesn't do anything for me after coming from OLED 1080p.

I am seriously considering returning it and just sticking with what I have, why should I keep the iPhone 11?

If you prefer the Android then why not return the iPhone 11 and put that money towards a better Android phone than you had? I don’t think you need people here to convince you of anything as in reality nobody really cares except yourself. Just use what you prefer I say :)

Welcome to another side of smartphones - a side much looked down upon by the Apple ones. You will find good value here versus the iPhone and the momentum of its laurels it tends to run on lately. Use your phone fully-updated/ upgraded for 2 years, then get another one if you want to stay abreast with updates and upgrades. Besides this lack of long software support, it is a great side to be. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

As you have discovered, there is great value in Android smartphones when it comes to hardware on offer versus price point. Unless you are better off with iPhone for anything that you do, you will find Android will save you a lot of money in the bank. A lot. And that's just capital, let's not get into what would happen if you invest that saving.

If you aren’t happy with the iPhone 11 then just return it and as others have commented, maybe looks to upgrade your android phone instead. If you are happy with your old phone then maybe take a look at the new Samsung galaxy 4 watch if you fancy a smart watch and feel the need for some new tech to play with. Despite what some believe there’s no right or wrongs here, just what’s right for you.

Nothing wrong with feeling like this, one does get tired of using one platform for a long time. I used Android on my phones for 10 years and jumped to iPhone in 2019, though I still have androids as secondary devices, it was refreshing to be on a “new platform“ ( I owned iPads since 2012) on my phone and still enjoying iOS and it’s own quirks.

You seem to be on the other side having used iOS for a long time and now having a fresh and different OS you are trying, I would say take the iPhone 11 back and maybe treat yourself to a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra or Note 20 Ultra, give Android a go on a full on flagship, that’s where the fun is at or even wait for the Google Pixel 6.

No need to keep it. Return it and save the money. If your Realme 7Pro still does what you require, you are fine.

There's strong value in some inexpensive Android phones, for sure. I drive a Pixel 3aXL among my MBA, M1 Mini and 7th gen iPad. I paid $479 for it, and bought it because I think Google does a great job with computational photography, an important (if not THE most important) part of phone ownership for me. For the price, it's been a great device, and I'm looking forward to trying out a Pixel 6 Pro when they hit stores, along with an iPhone 12/13.

Because Android manufacturers don't rely on long-term support, consistent user experience or high-quality components etc which Apple is well known for, their innovation tends to be more drastic imo. Experiencing pioneering new gimmicks is what makes Android such a refreshing experience to use sometimes. It's true that most such gimmicks will hit the cutting room floor in a year or two, but an attempt nonetheless.
Apple, on the other hand, praised with innovative design but no longer, and now needs to maintain the high standard of their own product, which means Apple does not always chase after new tech first. Besides, there is no competition in the iOS device world since, well, Apple is the only player here.
I myself have basically submitted my whole life to Apple devices and its ecosystem, so switching is pretty much no longer possible. But I sometimes am surprised to see those new techs (for example, folding phones) being embraced by leading android device manufacturers.
With all that being said, just return iPhone 11 if you don't feel right and there is no need to stress out which device you are going to pick. Enjoy what you have and move on with your life, and let that phone be the accelerator of yourself, your work, and your experience.

If it made you realize you don't like the iPhone anymore, I say stick with what you had before the iPhone 11.

When making a phone, each company has their own cost structure. For realme, it goes for the spec, sacrificing build material quality (by using plastic frame and back) and software support (i doubt realme will give more than one android upgrade). Actual camera quality is also questionable. And that OLED screen, although look impressive, the Chinese like realme and xiaomi got cheaper tier of the oled screen (means lower actual quality). Most people won't notice it, but they are second tier product compared to Samsung.

Apple cost structure goes to the material (metal aluminum) and software support (5 years at least). Apple also always use flagship chip on their iPhone, and the A13 will wipe the floor with the SD720 on the realme. If you like to play games, the iPhone is the way to go.

Nothing wrong with either, mind you. It's up to you to decide your own priorities.

If you have to ask, that is a sign you should return the phone.

I'm with the don't keep it if you don't want it crowd.

Also if you're happy with the Realme. Just stick with it. No, need to waste money on a better Android phone if you're already happy.

Phones are just tools to accomplish tasks. No one else cares what phone you have. Unless they're looking for a new phone and want to know if you're happy with whatever you bought. Well that or they just mugged you and want to know how much smack they'll get for it😃.

Sounds like you were expecting too much. The gap between an XR and 11 isn’t much. Stick to android, everybody is different.

Don’t get bent out of shape over your choice of tools, there’s no wrong or right as long as you are satisfied with what you have. Enjoy!
Exactly...one of my fav quotes....A fool with a tool...is still a fool :). Enjoy your choice of tools, there are many.

Well, you are comparing a 2021 Android vs a 2019 iPhone, the 2020 iPhone has OLED across the board, better yet, I would have waited one month for the 2021 iPhone which will apparently sport a smaller notch, along with the upgraded design and surely even faster performance.

But, for what you’re saying you don’t seem to need more performance as speed is one of the very noticeable difference when going from Android to an iPhone.

Nothing anyone says will convince you 100%. Do what makes you feel better, if it’s the android phone then do that.

In 2019 we bought the Pixel 3a XL because I wanted a new phone and was tired of waiting for Apple to get rid of the camera bump (we were using the 6s and 6s+ at that time).

Two years later we came back to iPhone in Feb. 2021 when we both got the iPhone 11 Pro Max. I have the exact opposite reaction OP. I'm glad to be back on iOS after having done a two year experiment with Android. Android is great, it's much improved, but I prefer iPhone and iOS.

I'll admit the iP11M is a fair bit heavier than my Pixel and definitely not as thin as my 6s+ (both phones I still have lying around) but it's been a great phone so far. Maybe the Max is different to the standard 11, IDK, but I have edge to edge screen, no bezels - unless you're counting the frame as bezel?

11 is 2019. 12 is 2020. There is a difference and I recommend you to try out the 12 series.

I’d say user ignorance. You saved for a new iPhone and buy an old one is telling.
