I don’t get the “value” proposition of Android. Their phones of equal, read: slightly lesser, quality and lower performance cost the same.

You can get a cheaper phone, sure. Big whoop.

I had been a long-time iPhone user, My XR died at the start of the year, I didn't have the money to buy a new iphone at the time so decided to purchase a cheap android (Realme 7Pro) while I saved up for a new iPhone.

Yesterday I went and got myself a brand new iPhone 11, I was excited and pleased for all of 5 mins, I have set it all up, been playing around with it but I am not feeling it and can't understand why. It costs almost 3 times as much as my cheapo Chinese phone, maybe its the build compared to my realme its big heavy and bulky, its got massive bezzles, then we have the notch and the screen just doesn't do anything for me after coming from OLED 1080p.

I am seriously considering returning it and just sticking with what I have, why should I keep the iPhone 11?

I feel the same way with my iPhone really boring and basic but works also looks a little feline IMO.

I really miss my old note 10 much more masculine phone but I can’t lie the iPhone gives no problems.

I do feel the same especially with the galaxy watxh 4 classic looking so tough paired with that fold 3 but I know I’ll be back within a year and selling all my iOS stuff is too much time.

iOS is the same in iPhone 13, 12, 11, xr. What did you expect? There’s literally nothing different in my 12minI aside from the size compared to my xs max, or my dad iPhone 11 or my sisters 12 max. There’s different in material but day to day it’s the same. You want different get flip phone. And you went to a lower res screen what did you expect, 1080p oled to 720 led? It’s like me going from a 2k monitor to 1080p. I notice more pixels but hell my work laptop can’t hang with the 2k monitor.

Anyway go back to a cheap android phone and put the extra money in an ira, and thank me in 30 years when the $500 dollar investment becomes $40k enough to remodel you kitchen lol in your retirement.

I guess if you are happy with Android there are some pretty compelling offers available.

I personally am completely locked in the apple eco system and don’t regret it one bit.

If I were to use an Android phone it would be a Google Pixel. I actually have a Pixel 3a XL as a backup phone and as a training device because by parents both got Google phones as their first smartphones. (Yep - dragged into the modern age kicking and screaming. 😁 Those old 2G flip phones just wouldn't work anymore.) I'm their "tech support on demand" so when things go awry I get the call. The Pixels are nice enough phones. It's just that I'm a Mac user at home and the iPhone integrates much better in my ecosystem. If I based my digital life around a GMail account I'd be using a Pixel. But since I'm set up with iCloud on all my devices I prefer my iPhone 11 Pro Max.

No one is 'stuck' with the Apple ecosystem. At some level everyone claiming they are stuck in it has actively chosen to be there.

There are plenty of alternatives. I've been on iPhone/iOS since 2012 and I've never been 'stuck' because the services I use are not Apple's services. They are cross platform. It's why it was so easy for me to move to Android for two years and then so easy to move back.

What you are is unwilling to make the effort required to move yourself off Apple's services on to other services. That's work, because you've been using Apple's services for so long and Apple makes it attractive to stay. It's easier just to give in then make that effort. But there are alternatives if you do become willing.

Feline looks?!? So that’s why my cats love Apple products!

Exactly. Being “stuck” with Apple is the same as being “stuck” with Nintendo or with the Sony PlayStation Store. Nothing that a little effort wouldn’t fix.

It’s one of the reasons I never use Apple services. I always use cross platform as well.

A regular 12 with its high res oled screen may have been a better option than the 11 which looks dated in comparison but I agree , it’s amazing what you can get in the mid to low tier in Android land.

Take the 11 back and wait to see if Apple release anything next month that is worth looking at.

Buyers remorse I get it. Run back to 7-11 and get another phone and return/sell the iPhone. Take the money and save it for something you really want.

It's not a downgrade, it's more powerful than all the android phones on the market, also has better software, will be supported longer than even the current android phones.

It's just the wrong choice for you, seems like you're more happy with android.

I have an iPhone 11 as a works phone and a 12 for my personal device and I really can’t tell the difference between the two in terms of screen quality. I’m sure if someone really looked hard they might find a difference, but it’s really not obvious IMO. The screens are so good on iPhones I think they did a brilliant job on the XR and 11.

In 2015 when I moved over to the iphone from an HTC One (I had just brought the Macbook Pro 13 2015 model as well), I fully envisaged that I may want to return to Android one day so kept on using Googles services for my contacts, calender, mail etc and not icloud. The good thing about IOS and OS X is that you can sign in to other services, and they even have Googles logo for this (when adding accounts), so Apple do not forcefully tie you in to their ecosystem. I do enjoy Apples Ecosystem no doubt about that, it works very seamlessly, but if I want out for any reason, then I can leave and come back if i want to.

Yes, same here. I made the decision to not use Apple services just in case I ever wanted to move away from the ecosystem.

Just curious why you didn’t get the 12?

Both of the platforms have their pros and cons. You just need to choose the one that fits you best financially and logically.
Past experience:
1) Apple were promoting the new "beats headphones" back in the iphone 4, 4s days. Ok got you. Friend of mine bought beats headphones for his iphone and ipods. Well the headphone is 32Ohm so the max volume was really low because the DAC and amplifier in an iphone were pretty weak and could only comfortably drive 16Ohm headphones.
2) At the same time i chose Samsung galaxy s3. Well in the stock version it was no better than the iphone when dealing with Beats. But we all know that it has some sort of super DAC, but not used up to its' limits in a stock software. I have installed audio codecs/kernels for it and guess what? It killed the Beats headphone because the power it sent was huge. Then i tested it on the 5.1 speaker system - it also couldn't handle it. So for me, S3 was an absolute best choice at a time because i could choose/buy any headphones and my smartphone could drive them with the full power no matter the Ohms they have.
=====================
Financial reason:
1) Used to live overseas close to China. I loved and appreciated the ability to have $150-$200 Xiaomi phones, that were worse than the iphone but not 5 times to justify the price difference. I was happy using them until i dropped/cracked them and never looked for an iPhone.
2) In the US, those my beloved Xiaomi phones turned out to be $250-$400, which really kills the deal. The same person would still pay $180 overseas for Chinese phone, why would i have to pay double the price in US?
Also all of this promo deals from carriers just make it easier to stick with an Iphone(like free SE2 or $300 Iphone 11). Oh and iMessages as well.

I agree with you at lots of points, I also came from android samsung s8 to iphone x; it feels like a downgrade; but then I noticed that I really only began to use my iphone at the basics until I got it jailbroken with altstore included. Honestly at this moment coming from a long time android user. Iphone especially ios 14 and now 15 seems to have caught up excluding 3rd party stores (altstore) and a better file management
