I had been a long-time iPhone user, My XR died at the start of the year, I didn't have the money to buy a new iphone at the time so decided to purchase a cheap android (Realme 7Pro) while I saved up for a new iPhone.

Yesterday I went and got myself a brand new iPhone 11, I was excited and pleased for all of 5 mins, I have set it all up, been playing around with it but I am not feeling it and can't understand why. It costs almost 3 times as much as my cheapo Chinese phone, maybe its the build compared to my realme its big heavy and bulky, its got massive bezzles, then we have the notch and the screen just doesn't do anything for me after coming from OLED 1080p.

I am seriously considering returning it and just sticking with what I have, why should I keep the iPhone 11?
Why would you buy the 11 when the 12 is a much better phone and would have been worth saving a little longer for. Much better display, better design, A14, 5G. The 11 to 12 is a massive jump, much bigger than the 11 Pro to 12 Pro.

What is massively different between the iPhone 11 and 12? I use both currently.
Signal reception alone was a substantial difference for our family. Squared design made it easier to grip, giving me a chance to think about 12 PM, while with 11PM i had no courage even to think about it.
Details aside, this year's "cheaper" Iphone 12 packs a punch against Pro siblings and is a viable option which lacks a little tech from older brothers. While Iphone 11 had worse screen, chunky weight/size when compared to Pro 11 lineup.

I use a 12 as my personal phone and have an 11 for work. I’ve been mightily impressed by the 11 as for me it’s a very similar device. The flat sides are a bonus on the 12 as the physical size of the phone feels smaller to me. I agree the 12 is a viable option against the 12 Pro range which is why I got it in all honesty. It had all the important features I was looking for and that prevented me paying £150 more for a 12 Pro. I haven’t regretted that. It’s my first OLED phone but I can’t say I see a huge difference as the LCD’s Apple use are high quality anyway. I can’t see a difference side by side.

A few family members and friends have the xr and 11, they are more than happy with it, especially the XR at the moment since it’s on sale here in AUS, they don’t have anything negative to say about both models.

Guess they can’t complain at this price 👇

The XR must still be one of the top selling iPhones as the deals are superb. I see a lot of teenagers and young adults using them of late and they certainly give people the taste of the new era of iPhones without the silly price tags of some of the more recent models.

Agree 100% great value, it should be supported for a few more years to come, rumors out there are saying apple might drop the price on the 12 to get it back in line with the XR/11 pricing when they were released, hopefully that’s true.

Screen on the 12 is much better. I had the XR before my 11 Pro and moving from an sub-HD LCD to the XDR on the 11 Pro was huge. The regular iPhone 12 is a really great phone and makes buying the 12 Pro a tough decision since there’s so little practically speaking. That was not the case with the 11 to 11 Pro. I am not saying the 11 is a bad phone, but compared to the 12, the screen, design, 5G (Future proofing), and A14 are worth saving extra for over the 11.

Everything you've listed is either subjective or nothing close to a massive improvement. The question asked to you was what was a massive improvement from 11 to 12? Of which there are none. Certainly nothing that justifies you claiming the 12 is a "much better phone"... and 5G is years away from even being an option for most people so buying into that hype now is a waste of time and money. Most people will be on anther phone by the time 5g is standard.

Yes the OLED screen on the 12 is probably overall better than the 326 ppi LCD's in my opinion, but the area where the LCD screens has the advantage is when used outdoors in sunlight. I can barely see the OLED screen on my 12 mini in sunlight, even when on max brightness, with LCD on my SE2 and 8+ no problems at all.

Unfortunately the price for the 12 isn’t great, basically the same price as a 12 pro, better off getting the pro instead of the 12, hopefully apple gives the upcoming 13 a price cut, needs to be the same price as the XR and 11 when they were released.

Yeah, to be honest, no big difference between the two. Reviews on Youtube have shown that even the camera have seen very little improvements from the XS era.
I would stick with any option that will please our wallets. Currently in US, deals are that Iphone 11 is $300 and Iphone 12 is at full price of $830. At this point, going for 11 is a no brainer with this kind of difference.

Agree, if you’re happy with what you have then why upgrade, only reason I upgraded from my xs max to 12 pro max, was for that awesome battery life, plus I can’t help myself 🤦‍♂️😂

In the current world of consumerism and yearly iphone upgrades($40+ billion industry), your power of will to hold on to one phone for 2 years is admirable.🤝

Agree, use to upgrade yearly, trying to keep my 12 pro max for another year, possibly 2 years, hopefully I don’t fall for the apple marketing come event time. 😬😂🤦‍♂️

Oh those events... especially annoys when you have a job but have to watch it without a sound and not be able to enjoy the event. Sometimes i feel good when i skip those alluring presentations - my wallet feels safer and i sleep better as a result.:D😴

Yep, woke up at 3am to watch the iOS 14 event, sorry iOS 15, never again 🤦‍♂️😂

Never again, most disappointing event in apple history.

I don’t find the screen much better on my iPhone 12 over the iPhone 11 I have for work. Both are decent screens. I’ve read for years on here about the need for OLED and how clearly different it is, and now I have one to compare, I’ve realised it’s so minimal. I like my 12 don’t get me wrong, but the 11 is very similar in terms of performance.

Also, by the time 5G becomes available outside of major cities, i’ll have undoubtedly moved on to my second 5G iPhone anyway.

That was a surprise to me when it comes to the adoption of 5G. I live in a small town with 120K people and getting 360 MBps on 5G from the day we got 12 series phones back in December 2020.

My 12 cost me £799 and is the most expensive iPhone I’ve purchased to date. I don’t intend paying that again and will be looking for more cost effective alternatives going forward. It’s a lot of money to outlay every 2 years and I can’t get my head around why people spend £1k+ in the same time frame. I can see why the XR and 11 is still so popular at their price points to be honest.

I have really good 4G coverage where I live but have to travel 40 miles to experience 5G speeds. I did petition against 5G aerials in my area though a couple of years back so I can’t complain. I don’t really want to see them scattered around my town just for a faster connection when I’m mostly on WiFi lol.

No matter what platform you choose you are "stuck" in somebody's ecosystem. The important thing to ask is if that ecosystem works for you. As a life-long Mac user I've found Apple's ecosystem works for me.

I was a dyed-in-the-wool BlackBerry user. Back in the day, before social media was even a thing, it was all about phone calls, email, and SMS. Lest the young'uns here forget (or never knew) SMS stands for Short Message Service. Text messages were designed to be short and contain no graphics. "I'll be home late" or "I'm in a meeting." Different times. BlackBerry was the first mobile platform to successfully and reliably put your Outlook email in your pocket. And while I loved it, I found I was spending an inordinate amount of time trying to get my BlackBerry to sync my email and contacts on a Mac. If you weren't on a corporate enterprise server with your BB this was a tall order even on Windows. But on a Mac? Hah! When I finally tried an iPhone it was a revelation. Everything just worked for me. No more sketchy workarounds.

My advice to anybody is to pick an ecosystem and stay within it. Don't try to force your mobile to work the way you work. Instead, find one that works the way you do.

I don’t get the “value” proposition of Android. Their phones of equal, read: slightly lesser, quality and lower performance cost the same.

You can get a cheaper phone, sure. Big whoop.
In the US, maybe. In other countries like mine, Apple iPhone are marked up way above their supposed price segment.

Example, in my country, the 128GB S21 ultra is around $1070 now. Meanwhile, the base 128GB iPhone 12 Pro is priced at $1200. The 128GB 12 Pro Max? That will cost you $1350. And that's actually on sale as the launch price was $1440.
