I see what your saying about the upgrade cycle your on I had a 4S before the 6. The 5S was ok but I was jonesing the a wider screen not just taller. It was a long extra year of waiting though. It sucked that my phone was super slow compared to the 5 and 5S. But I knew what I ultimately wanted. Bigger wider screen

Non -s cycle, I will upgrade when Iphone 7 come out, but , maybe I am considering to change my phone every year

I was on two year contracts with the 3GS and the 4S. When the 5S came out, I knew the 6 would be a major overhaul so instead of signing a new contract with the 5S, I picked up a used iPhone 5 off Craigslist and waited it out a year. When the 5S came out, the huge benefit was that the regular 5 prices dropped rock bottom. The 64GB normally runs $850 off contract when it was brand new but I was able to pick one up for $400.

If the rumors are true and I think they are...that Apple will concentrate on optimization in iOS 9 then I don't think we will see 2gb in 6s. There will be a moderately faster chip in iphone 6s and a few new features and a better camera but not 2gb.

will be just a S Iphone, major changes will come On Iphone 7, as it came with the Iphone 6 , new design, better screen, etc

I'm completely happy with my 5s (still). I started with the 3Gs and have upgraded every two years as I become eligible, I'm on the s cycle and I have no problem with it. I saw nothing in the 6 or the 6 plus that made me envious. I will probably upgrade to the 6s when the time comes, but in the meantime I'm not suffering at all. The 5s is still, for me, a great phone, and covers my needs more than adaquately. But then, I'm old school, and use my phone as a phone for the most part, the other part being text and email and several apps, and the other part being non-existent. I find the idea of watching a movie on a phone to be ludicrous. But as I said, I'm old.

The differences between cycles are not as pronounced as this. Yes the 6 series got bigger screens. But the design (horribly big bezels) remained virtually the exact same. And the screen improvement from the previous generations is overrated. The internal specs and speeds are only incremental boosts from the 5S.

As opposed to 4S to 5?

I buy a phone when I feel like it. Not because it has an S in it or doesn't have an S in it.....*sigh*...

This.

I upgraded from a 4 to a 5s. The 4 was perfectly usable and my friend had it for a year until her contract was up (she broke her contract phone.) I liked the look of the gold so I got it. You never know if the colour option you want will be around in the next cycle (slate.) The gold has changed shade also and I prefer the gold I have. Icing on the cake is that I don't like the 6/6+ form factor, so I had a brand new phone for a year and there still isn't one that I'd prefer now.

I'm technically on the S cycle since the 3GS but I always buy the new one outright every none S cycle anyways. :p

I was on the S cycle from the 3Gs to the 4s but then got a 5 and now 6. While the 4s was undoubtedly one of the nicest of all iPhones, I prefer being on the non s cycle. I think the new form factor hits my hot button more than incremental power increases. The phones are already super fast at this point anyway whereas I don't feel the differences are all that noticeable in everyday usage.

Check if you are eligible for the iPhone 5 battery replacement program. Mine was, and it seemed better than new after Apple swapped the battery for free. My girlfriend has my old 5 now, after she cracked the screen on her 5c.

Fantastic input m8! Thank you very much.
My wife's IP5's battery was dying so fast and I checked the serial on this page and what a surprise, the phone is covered by this program. i have scheduled a telephone call with Apple tomorrow. I hope they exchange it without any problems.

About the OT, I have been on the non-S cycle for the last 6 years and have never been disappointed until now that I got the 6+. I don't know if it is iOS 8, the phone or both but I have seen so many bugs since I have my 6+! I have never experienced something like this with an Apple product before so I guess that I should have waited for the polished 6s+ model.

These 2 are the worst offenders:
- Random restarts (reason probably the TLC NAND used on the 6+ 128GB)
- A plethora of orientation issues with many apps

Moving from "non-S" to "S" upgrade cycle

If you want to wait for a phone will be waiting a lifetime because there is a new phone all the time ,, buy the phone now and enjoy your time

Right now I am in the "non-S" upgrade cycle every two years - went from the IP4 to the IP5, and now I'm eligible to upgrade to the IP6/+ on December 29.

The more I think about it, the more I'm considering holding off and waiting until next product cycle to upgrade (assuming the 6s comes out Sept. 2015). By the time December 28th comes around I will have waited 3.5 months from product launch date to my upgrade date. I've already waited this long...why not wait another 8.5 months and get the "S" version?

I know you can play this "should I upgrade now or should I wait" game with every product, every year. This time around I'm just a little less compelled to upgrade. Going from the 4 to the 5 was a huge jump for me - the 5 was MUCH faster, and I personally liked the design of the 5 a lot better.

After playing around with the 6 and 6+ in the store...I'm just not that psyched to upgrade right away. Don't get me wrong - they look great, they're fast, the screens are excellent. But I don't have a huge desire to upgrade to a device as big as the 6+. And the 6, while it would be a nice upgrade...just didn't do a lot for me. I really love the look of my black/slate iPhone 5. And the closest offering to that now is the "Space Grey". Also, my 5 still performs nicely - no speed issues or anything like that. In a nutshell, messing around with the 6/6+ just felt like "more of the same" I guess.

So I'm thinking, why not wait until the 6s comes out and get on that upgrade cycle? That way I'll always have the fastest version of the most recent iPhone body design that is available. Also, I've never been a fan of buying "1st gen" products. The "S" versions always feel like the "completed" version of the originally released phone.

However, my current IP5 could use an upgrade soon. The battery is weak, it doesn't like taking a charge from certain chargers without a little "fiddling", and there are a few small cracks on the back top/bottom glass pieces. I'm thinking of just buying a lightly used 5s.

Has anyone else followed this train of thought and gone from being an "original release" to "S release" upgrader?

I prefer to upgrade on non S cycle. The S cycle iPhones haven't been too significant of an upgrade for me. Example would be the 5 and 5S. The only thing the 5S offerred was Touch ID and other minor stuff which wasn't significant for me.

Yeah, not counting a faster processor, 64-bit architecture, and all those other internal improvements that are pretty much the main thing in "s" versions.
