sand uneven things, clean the floors, perfect the room itself, and then paint the walls. Multiple coats! The paint will last a long time if you put the effort in and do it nice. After that, put in well designed furniture. It doesn't necessarily have to be expensive, but if there's anything worth investing in it would be in your home, IMO. But don't get a lot of furniture and certainly not bean bag chairs, ewww
