Lots of issues with that concept. For one you'd probably lose the integrated Bluetooth headset/pointer at some point, leaving your phone with a nice gaping hole.

With the phone sitting on a table, there's just no way that having projectors project a keyboard would make for a comfortable working position without a stand. Even if the back of the phone is thicker at the top, there would still be too little angle towards you on the device for comfortably working when sitting down. You'd be staring at the table at almost a 90 degree angle and that's not good for your neck.

I don't know about you, but I certainly don't want to deal with a pointer on a mobile device. So having a virtual trackpad is not a plus for a device this size.

Calm down there, I know there are trolls everywhere, but I hope you're not refering to me as the original poster as an 'ardent android fanboy'? I just thought it was a cool concept video.

edit - I probably own more Apple hardware than many have underwear.

I wasn't replying to you directly, I was replying to the point you made that this place is filled with fanboys, etc.

Good call, I didn't really think of those... seems this phone is a nice idea but with little thought behind it.

iPhone killer notions aside,

That dual projector concept is no joke. You can have a lot use for a viewing surface that large borne just out of your pocket phone. And the keyboard, if it can be made responsive goes a long way upwards making a phone a desktop.

By the time this comes out maybe ios will be more like osx as far as having a true editable file and program system for serious computer usage and that projector keyboard hologram combo is what makes it a neat desktop replacement.

Like that guy from heavy rain that is a detective..

I like some of the new ideas it brings. But my favorite are some of the comments here mainly because of its "looks." LOL! Since when do concept designs ever look like that when it reaches its final stages? Like automobiles. The dual projector is a cool concept. "Count me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope."

Maybe Apple should steal some of these ideas and then market like crazy so they can pretend they invented it like video calling. Put it in a prettier package and stamp the Apple logo, and it will sell like hotcakes. At this point, if Steve Jobs doesn't feel like it is a good idea, it is not a good idea. When Steve says it is, it is. It's like the ones complaining about 4 inch screens being too big and 3.5 inch is simply perfect right now. Imagine if the iPhone was introduced at 3.0 inches and small? A 3.5 inch screen is too bulky to us. Nevermind what Steve thinks.

When will we see the NVIDIA-powered cell phones with 10 hours of HD video like the one I saw two years ago? That made iPhone look old school.

I don't need to be a large company to make a "cool" phone on CGI. All I need is some time and a good machine. My concept will transform into a plane and flight me around :D

You could do some of this now if you really wanted to, although not all in one case.

Just grab that ATT Windows Mobile projector phone, along with one of those Bluetooth laser keyboard projectors. That gives you a lot of it.

There are some phones now that come with the BT earpiece dock... something I'm surprised more don't do, perhaps with dual pieces for headphones.

"The mind is like a parachute. It only works when its open."

^^ Too bad Apple fans have broken parachutes and fell hard for whatever Steve Jobs tells them. Love is blind. Their mind are as closed as Apple's ecosystem.

Some of the concepts are good, and some are not. We could still be a decade behind the ideas. But understand, it is an idea. The execution has to happen too. Right now, this is vaporware. But the "inception" is already being planted in our minds right now.

If you don't like the concept, you must be a closed minded mac fanboy?
If you don't like Pres. Obama, you must be a racist?

That's such a closed minded comment.

The built-in bluetooth dongle headset/remote is a stupid idea. That would make the device at least 1" thick. Dongle can be easily lost just like those built-in stylus.

It's a decent concept but in some ways it's quite outdated.

Eventually I can see phones being desktop replacements, but not using a projected keyboard and display.

More likely they would be using some sort of wireless hdmi and a Bluetooth keyboard.

As for the Bluetooth dongle, interesting idea, but it's not like there haven't been phones with built in Bluetooth headsets before, they just expanded the idea, and id rather have a separate device instead of one built in like that.

My favorite part of the design is the tiny bezel where the screen reaches all the way to the bottom of the phone.

I can see apple eventually having an iPhone where the entire face of the phone is screen, with a cutout for the speaker and possibly the home button if they decide to keep it.

Pretty awesome concept. but I'm not too crazy about the way they shaped it. It looks like it'd feel weird in your hand. But if such a phone does ever exist, I really hope it runs on something much better than Android. Or any other OS that's out right now lol

Cool, I guess. Battery life on that phone would be about 25 seconds. Personally, the next big revolutionary thing I'm hoping for from the phone industry (hopefully Apple) will be in the battery department.

It has a few nifty features, but over all it seems like a terrible phone IMO.

First, the shape is just plain awkward, and it looks thick as hell. I'd rather have uniformity across the entire shape of the device than a random hump on the top.

Second, with the bluetooth headset out, theres a piece missing of the phone that just looks oooh so inviting for whatevers in my pocket to get stuck in there and mess stuff up.

Third, whatever they were trying to do with the dongle remote thing...wow. Why in the hell would I ever want to use that on such a small device? Am I supposed to hold it in one hand and play harry potter with the other? It seems very poorly thought out.

The projected keyboard is a neat feature, but again it seems poorly thought out and that button layout doesn't look inviting to me at all.

A 45 lumens pico projector would never look that good with such a low resolution. I'd prefer a dockable phone to use with a real monitor, and a different version of the projected keyboard, or just a bluetooth one seeing as I'd only ever use that feature at my workspace.

Again, these all look like nifty selling points, but few of them look like they add any real usefulness to the phone in the way they are presented.

Not going to happen. Battery technology on a big scale is the biggest problem facing alternative energies and we still have little progress on that front anywhere near ready for prime time. On a small scale, no way in hell is there going to be a magic leap before the big boys grow up.

It especially isn't going to come from apple, who doesn't do a thing with battery design other than shape, and charging communications.
