album art not showing in finder osx 10.7

Hi guys dont know if this is old news or not but I found a way to make the album art reappear in finder and cover flow ,I am using iTunes 10.4 and osx Lion (10.7.1).My album art is ok in iTunes and not a problem adding but in finder could not see album art, I increased the the icon size using the slider bottom right in finder and the artwork just appeared I then reduced it to normal size and it stays put , I did the same with cover flow and all seems ok.
Dont know if you have to do it for each folder havent tried that as most seem to be ok but will keep checking.

Hope it helps I spent an age trying to figure this out !!! hope it is repaired soon.

Just down loaded an album and had the same problem again no art work in finder then selected all the files in the album in iTunes and right hand clicked chose make mp3 version changed to 160 bit rate and art work appeared in finder have done this 3 times and worked each time. Sorry if it does not work for anyone else.

aljuda It DID work for me!

aljuda It DID work for me. Thanks for the post! Hopefully Apple will fix it for real, but this is a nice temporary fix! Thanks again!

I think iTunes 10.5 fixes this issue. I had a bunch of albums I downloaded after updating iTunes 10.4.1 that didn't show the album art in finder but after updating to 10.5 this morning, the album art showed up.

ok I'll give it a try but still interested in response/experinces/ideas about this issue!! Thanks!!

I heard even the latest beta didn't fix this, did they really get it done in the final release?

Can't say. I mean either they it just decided to show album art or 10.5 really fixed it. But I know for sure the few albums that didn't have the album art now do.

I've noticed this issue with the finder. If I copy a folder of music from Drive A to Drive B, the album artwork will not show on drive B for at least an hour or more. I think Spotlight has to re-index the folder on drive B.

not working for me either

I just really noticed a couple months ago but figured it some weird glitch with tagr but since it hasn't gone away and I've had updates done, it's a damn shame this problem can't be fixed (I just read the whole thread)

and it seems like a small matter to apple so i doubt they'd fix it or care since it hasn't been done in years ~_~ /pessimistic

iTunes 10.5.1 seems to have finally fixed this problem, judging by my GF's mac. Not sure if i dare update from iTunes 10.3.1 on my machine though...

Two things I wanted to chime in on:

As for the album art not showing in finder issue, I just discovered something that is very strange. When album art is dragged into the box in the lower left with iTunes in the foreground, the finder displays the art correctly. When iTunes is in the background and album art is dragged to the same box, many times the finder does not display the preview correctly. I have no idea what would cause this behavior, but those with audio files not displaying correctly in the finder should delete and re-embed artwork as I've explained and see if it works for you. Once again, make sure the folder with the art is in the background while iTunes is in the foreground.

Also, those selecting "get info" and dragging album art into the window for multiple files should be aware that iTunes converts the image to a PNG, thus bloating the size of the audio file. I contacted Doug from Doug's AppleScripts and he sent me a script that isolated all files with embedded PNGs. After running it I found that a large portion of my files had embedded PNGs rather than the original JPGs. To solve this problem, highlight files in the main itunes window and drag artwork to the box in the lower left. Doing it this way never results in artwork being converted to a PNG, which are normally much larger than the original JPG. If anyone wants the script to test their files, send an email to Doug as he is aware of the issue.

Well, I had this problem last night, wondered in forums to find a solution but was unsuccessful (Even replacing all the .plists in ~/Library/Preferences by the ones of a new account), the only way I could get it back was doing the following:

Created new account, tested it and the previews there appeared, so I opened /Users/(Name old Account) and changed the permissions of the entire folder & contents to (staff=Read / Write), then manually backed up all the plists in ~/preferences, the Application Support folder, Safari and Keychains, and the folders where I had files like Pictures, Documents, Downloads, Desktop, Dropbox (I did copy them because I hadn't have many things on them, if I changed the permissions I guess it would let me just move them, which would be faster), so, next step was deleting my account from System Preferences and recreate it after, login to it again and put all folders back to their places, repair permissions and done. My account was again the way it was, with mp3 icon previews! :)

I know it isn't a good solution, but beats the crap out of formatting again to solve this!

:)

Don't mean to bump a dead thread, but this is relevant. I just did exactly this. Moved 115 GB of music, 75% of which had album art either downloaded with the album or manually assigned to it through iTunes. Before I moved the music files from my internal SSD to my external media drive, all of their album art showed in finder without issue. Now, after the drag and drop, the album are no longer shows. iTunes still shows all album art without issue (I guess this is the more important thing) but it would still be nice for the album art to show in finder like it used to on the internal drive. Any ideas? Its been 3 days and nothing has shown up yet.

Maybe - perhaps - could be - etc - solved.

I think my icons have reappeared. This happened a few hours after I'd installed a 'security upgrade' from the Apple site.

Can't think what mp3 icons have to do with security, but...

Anybody else had their icons back?

I found that all the movie files I moved over to the same media drive all show their cover art without issues and some of my recently added songs no show album art. But the issue still persists for most of my 10,000+ files. After the drag and drop to the external, no album art displayed where it used to on the internal SSD without issue.

Don't know if there was ever a solution posted on how to remedy this, but one way that I found that works perfectly is to simply locate the mp3 file (or song file) in the finder and right-click to "get info" then open iTunes (if it isn't already open) and scroll to the song in question and then get the song info click the "artwork" tab and then drag the artwork from that info pane right to the top of the "get info" pane from the Finder and hover it over the top left icon right under the red, amber, and green buttons and drop it right there.

Done

Works perfectly easy fr me. I hope it'll work for others as well.

That's not a solution. The problem being discussed in this 8 year old thread is that Finder was no longer automatically displaying the album art as the icon for songs. Manually adding icons to each file in Finder doesn't solve the problem that is being described, since Finder should be automatically displaying the album art without the steps you mentioned. Think how tedious that would be for a library of 20,000 songs.
