Why is a cable channel that doesn't play any music even messing with a music download site? Shouldn't they be filming a new dumb movie aimed towards idiotic teens? Or taping new episodes of that award winning, thought provoking, intellectually stimulating show Jackass?

I think I hate MTV more then I hate M$, at least M$ outwardly broadcasts it's evil ways, MTV masks them behind music videos which they don't even play!!? They had to add another station (MTV2) just to play MUSIC VIDEOS!!!

I'm sorry, but the minute they censored slang from rap videos and blurred every label from every shirt, shoe, jeans, hat, etc yet left in cuss words in rock songs I lost my taste and respect for MTV. I hope they die a slow painful death!

Here's to MUCH MUSIC USA!! err, oh wait, now it's FUSE!!

...woah... ur a real mtv hater... i don't hate mtv, but they only have reality tv shows now... and they're getting boring. the only good show on mtv is punk'd, but they're showing reruns right now (although season 2 just came out)...

I thought MTV stood for Music TeleVision... they got the TV down, now bring back the music. No wait, don't. 90% of what MTV plays is crap, and it's all repeated so often you get sick of it. Look, our number one video, we've played it 6 times already today, and here it is again!

isnt it about iTMS and thus Apple making money? MTV will ultimatly fail if they attempt this alone by being clone number 6 or so of iTMS. if MTV worked with iTMS then MTV could have its own page of 100 songs, bring in tons of money and thus expand iTMS for the rest of us. And once the MTV teens grow out of their pop-100 list, they will join us enjoying the rest of iTMS expanse. So i say MTV wont make it, unless they follow Pepsi and partner with the market dominating iTMS.

mtv could actually be the biggest rival for itms. they have a huge audience and as long as mom and dad are willing to hand over their credit card, mtv could make some money.

what i find rather funny though is that mtv was supposedly working on this several years ago. i'm no business analyst, i just play one on the internet, but my instinct says that with apple moving to a younger audience with itms and everything, they probably tried to work with mtv some time ago. mtv in turn looked at their business proposal to incorporate apple technology on their site for music dl and decided that they could do it on their own. mtv's strategy may be a little different though, as they are more set up for being the producer, marketer, and the distributor, while apple acts primarily as distributor or store front. hmmm, mtv may be onto something here.

here's a side note for everyone, in the usa today's life section is an interesting article today. it states that since the end of june, there have been 7.7 million songs downloaded, compared with 4 million cd singles sold. furthermore the week ending oct. 26, 857,000 digital songs vs. 170,000 physical cd singles sold. it doesn't state wether the digital songs are both from single song purchases or complete albums, but a staggering number none the less and it's easy to see why mtv wants to get on the wagon.

MTV ?i thought that channel went from music to following around young adolescent kids dreaming of sex and alcohol?

Yeah, usually the only music they play are videos at 3 in the morning, otherwise it's all these "teen reality" nonsense. My roommate watches them all the time. There's a show called One Bad Trip, and last time it was these two girls dads who secretly went with them on a trip where they witnessed them half naked and making out. What is with that?

I haven't spent much time watching MTV since my college days ended in the early 90's, but it's always a shock when I turn it on anymore.

They used to present themselves as at least somewhat outsider or edgy or whatever; now they're just glorifying the bloated mainstream with the clichéd jockisms of Fraternity Life and teen idol worship of TRL.

And no, I AM NOT GETTING OLD! I'm probably more rebellious today than 95% of the teenagers/20somethings out there now.

As much as I used to mock Kurt Loder and Tabitha Soren, I guess I miss them a little now. They actually had brains in their heads and would not fit in with the current programming.

Dead Kennedys said it best so long ago:

"MTV GET OFF THE AIR!"

Well, I like MTV, even though there aren't enough music videos on it anymore. I've watched it since I was little, and it will always be cool. Who knows, if they make a music store for the Mac I just might try it.

I want my MTV.

I like watching some of those mtv shows to. I'll give it a try if it works with mac. And if you dont like the shows, just tune to MTV2, for 24 hours of music videos.

Nah, the unrelated programming is starting to creep onto MTV2 as well.

Okay, for those of us keeping score at home:

eMusic, Rhapsody, Pressplay (pre-iTMS)
iTMS
BuyMusic, Napster (out now)
MTV, Dell, Microsoft (future)
AOL (partnered with Apple)

Am I missing any?

MTV online video music store!

Boy, ain't that the truth! :D

What I would love to see from an MTV online music store is the ability for a person to purchase and download music videos for playback on a computer, or perhaps to burn to DVD.

Maybe MTV could even allow a person to pick and choose a certain number of videos (maybe 10 or 20) and they could burn a custom DVD for you.

I'm sure the above suggestions would be a logistical nightmare, but hey, I can dream, can't I?

I would love to be able to choose videos from the _entire_ video music library that MTV has!

FWIW! ;)

BTW, this is my first post to this fine forum! :D

Have a good day, all!

MTV conflict

It is a huge conflict of interest for MTV to sell music. Will they only sell the music they play? That's like CNN only reporting about the stocks they have a vested interest in

Who owns MTV?

I need to sure that I DON'T OWN any of their stock before they sink what little is left of the company.

Ugh. This weeks online music store is.....MTV!!

Stay tuned next week, when Wal-Mart announces it's online music store.

K-Mart the week after that.

Then, McDonalds will launch it's online music store.

Burger King expected to follow after that.

Subway to follow (yes, Jared will be the spokesman).

Then Compaq. Then comes the Toshiba music store.

Get my point? My eyes just roll when I hear these announcements. Sure, competition is good, but c'mon. The market is over-saturated now. Apple will ALWAYS be copied, no matter what. More importantly, Apple will always be the leader because their product is truly the best. How can you disagree?

This will be all irrelevant when M$ enters the fray next year, and they will soon claim that they "invented" the legitimate music downloading service:rolleyes:

another week another 4 services due for launching

Apple i would think will have made allowances for this i mean they cant have just thought oh we will give them gift vouches that will keep the enemey at bay

I still think that they should allow all credit card users around the world to acess the iTunes store as all this profit gose straight to the USA

as for the idea of 2 gig or less iPods well they would be great but then you want more space and well i guess thats were you buy 20 gig iPods or more..
