this doesnt really have much to do with the two-button mouse issue... but i was wondering if it was true... A sales guy at The Wiz told me that Apple was the company that originally used the mouse with their computers... he also said that Apple created Windows and M$ stole it...

is this guy serious??
doesn't everyone know the story?

as far as i know woz and jobs 'liberated' both innovations from Xerox

This is probably true, but Xerox, and here we are talking about Xerox PARC, which was the primiere development lab for a good period of time, had a lot on thier plate. Most ideas are formed from breakaways, look at Physics. Woz refined it, and Steve sold the hell out of it:D

Selection of text

I find it very unfortunate that developers just add things to the mouse (extra buttons, scroll wheel etc.)Why do I need a scrollwheel on my mouse ? Why can't I just grab the 'surface' of any document (where there is no text for example) and drag it up down indefinitely ?

That is for selection of text. If it was a blank area of the screen, I would still want to move the mouse and select text. I don't want to have to put my mouse pointer really close to the text before I make my selection.

A scroll wheel works great. If you haven't tried one, you should. They really work great.

I really like the Logitech multibutton mouse with scroll wheel. I have a regular one and an optical one. They're great! Both are form fitting to my hand. It has rubber on the side for a nice grip.

Still have my original round mouse in my closet.

I paid £50 for my promouse. And it's the nicest mouse I've ever used for general tasks. Still, I did swap a laser printer for a round mouse....:D
