thanks cube.

it says on that page "Wireless printing requires a working Ethernet network with wireless 802.11b/g capability. Wireless performance may vary based on terrain and distance between the printer and wireless network clients."

does this mean the printer will not work via the Airport (the two computers in the house are a MAC and MACBOOK.) ??

It means if you have 802.11n devices that you have to put the base station in 2.4 GHz b/g/n mixed mode.

As to faxing, although I've not set the MX860 up for that myself, it does apparently work to fax from a Mac. Here's a user review from Amazon:

"I bought the Pixma 860 after reading reviews on Amazon. I was confused because some said to set up wireless and then install software while others said the opposite. I have a Mac so I tried to set up the wireless but could not (I thought). On Monday a.m. I called Canon (they were patient, wonderful, and just plain nice as opposed to HP who never answered my e-mail one on question I had) and she told me to insert the disk. I had set up the wireless-I just needed to put the disk in to finish it and it was that simple. The confusion comes from the three different manuals that come with it. The tech said they are working on that. Wow!! It is quiet. It is fast after the first page. I can't find anything I don't like about it. The fax sets up automatically. A lot of people complained about the telephone and fax problem. There is no problem. If it is on your home line just set it to three rings. If no incoming fax is detected it takes a message. I have a phone at each end of my home so it is no problem to have it on 3 rings."

And here are a couple of user reviews from the Apple online store:

"I run a small business that entails a lot of printing, faxing and copying and quite of few scans. I have had all brands, top of lines and way at the bottom of the scale too. I have always been disappointed up until I bought this printer. Ink is cheap, does more than some of the top of the lines. I've been in business for a long time and this is the first all-n-1 that I truly love. I have had no problems or issues of any kind. I say why pay more when you can get it all for less. Great Product!"

I have had 6 printers in the past 5 years. It's almost better to buy new than replace the ink! I wont be doing that with this one, I love it and have had it for 9 months!!!!! The pictures are amazing, never had any problems with it, and there are a lot of options for loading larger paper for resume's and or thicker paper. I can see how some would find it confusing right off the bat, but once you learn it, it's golden! All my computers in the house can use it too (Networked color printer, with TONS of options, fax, scan, print. If you have a home office or multiple users, buy this machine. If you are looking for a single printer, nothing fancy, or just are not that computer savvy you might want to look at a more basic machine. I love this printer, clean lines, perfect color, and capable of storing your most used documents.... A+"

Nothing in that text says that you can FAX from the Mac.

Just because I came across this while I was reconfiguring my MX860, I want to confirm that this Canon AIO can in fact fax: the manual that came with it specific to Mac users has complete instructions on how to set it up for faxing with Macs. Haven't needed it myself, but the option does exist and is specified.
