I wouldn't be surprised if a large number of those people would revert back to iOS 6. iOS 7 feels rushed, it's great in some ways, but horrible in other ways.

Edit: Some people don't agree with my comment. I'll make a thread about the flaws in iOS 7's design some day - just for you!

I love the arrogance of these types of comments. People have some minor insight (even if it's their profession) and assume that some break from convention or oversight means that they would have seen it and ensured it had been fixed.

Is iOs7 flawed? Yes. Would it have been better without those flaws? Of course. Is it better than iOS6? Yes. Should it have been held back? Logically, no.

But thanks for your self assumed insight.

Thanks to everyone who shared their impressions of iOS 7 on iPad 3.

I upgraded today and I'm rather happy. The only stutters I encountered were:

1) the transitions of lock screen (landscape to portrait and back) are not smooth,
2) there is strange, 2-3 seconds lag when switching to numeric keyboard. I hope this will get fixed in an update.

Besides that, I love the new mail app!

So we're only allowed to post positive comments about Apple products here?

You're not thinking about it in the bigger picture. You are a very tiny minority. If I could generalize you, you're in the 1-10% "hardcore tech" crowd. The average user doesn't keep up with when the new OS comes out or when the new devices will be released. I would say they in general don't care that much.

Based on what I've heard this past week and who I've heard it from, I'd say the "average user" ( whoever that is or whatever it means ) cares about it. Lots of serious non-techies talking about it, even updating before I did. I even heard "can't wait to get home and update to IOS7!".

Switched back

Been using iOS 7 on my iPad 4 immediately after release. I successfully reverted to iOS 6 this morning. Wish I could keep the new features without the new UI, but it doesn't work that way. Yeah, I really really hate the UI. I call it iOS 70s---very Scooby Doo with those flat colors and pencil drawings. Some other bad user experience choices too, but the look and feel take the cake.

I work in UI design for a living, and yes, what Apple is doing is indeed the Next Big Thing. Everyone is doing it, which is why iOS 7 looks so much like, well, everyone else (Windows 8, Android, etc.) But this is too much in my view---it's fine to reject skeuomorphism as being a bit tacky and retro--but this is a mighty high cost--and to my eyes, it looks VERY very Retro, a High Rez Retro. The keyboard looks Atari to me; the swipe to delete in Mail looks like Google's web-based Gmail.

Want to bet my initial install counts as a +1 for iOS 7 adoption in Apple's metrics?

Cheers to all you iOS 7 lovers out there; Apple is going to need your love...I didn't believe Apple was even in decline til I ran this thing. I'll be back when all of my apps stop running.

Scooby, dooby dooo!!!

Such as?
(Be specific. Why make this statement with absolutely no points)

I'm a mega apple fan, but I have to say I don't like the lack of shading on buttons and context menus. they're just too stark for me -- half of iOS now feels like gmail or something.

or the ultra-abstract menu icons (Safari, share sheets, etc). they don't look like the items they represent which will be problematic for my dad. they look a lot like the android handset hardware buttons. I'm befuddled by this.

like the new functionality, however, and the animations. but I just miss my UI buttons and bevels.

----------

After a week of using iOS 7, I've just downgraded to 6.1.4 (fortunately Apple still signs it, I thought I was already out of time).
I like a lot of things about iOS 7, I really do... but somehow, I don't know why, something's missing... the pleasent, cozy, relaxing feel that I always loved about Apple products. I really miss this feeling, and now that I downgraded, it felt like entering my old beloved home. I'm not saying that I am going to stick with it forever. But right now I might hold off for at least another few iOS 7 updates, to see if anything changes.

I feel this way. I liked some shading and beveling or what not to help separate areas visually. things are just really stark right now...tap targets missing, etc.

I love the arrogance of these types of comments. People don't have even minor understanding of human-computer interfacing concepts (and don't understand that the study is legit) and assume that, because they themselves don't immediately perceive truth in complaints made by UI experts, that those experts must simply be arrogant and narcissistic.

iOS 7 is flawed. Is it better than iOS 6? Some features, yes, but not in the design face presented to users. Should it have been held back? Logically, yes, but then Wall Street doesn't run on logic, nor does the little kingdom of Jony Ive, who is a great industrial designer and a lousy human interface designer.

bugs

- Mail is still crashing sometimes just by scrolling up down the mail list on the left.

- Enable flight mode, open iBooks, click Store, say no to "disable flight mode" -> error message and then black screen.

Comments after 5 min usage.

I updated my wifes iPhone to ios7 and within the first 5 mins (I heard her voice from the other room)
"what's this?" I can't read the font, it's too small!
Why does it flash from screen to screen, how annoying.
Why does it have to do this annoying open screen animation every time...
The text is giving me a headache.

....oops (as I slowly sneak out of the house...)

Is there a way to revert back to ios6? Anyone?

..and mere 40% of these 36% of iOS7 users don´t like it by UI design. My thumbs goes down as well. Tobi, reception dpt of an Apple ASP in Czech Republic

Hit the nail right there...

Hotel California

I detest this OS, Even with bold turned on in accessibility it is painful on my eyes, but I'm stuck with it. I've downloaded IOS6, but the activation server won't allow a downgrade. My F*&King phone! I should decide what software variant it runs.

Better all round...

I haven't experienced less battery life. It seems to be a tad better actually. I was at 100% before leaving home this morning and now I'm at 58% mid day.

Apart form the nice new look, the functions closer to the finger tips.... I can now even change the volume when my iPhone is in it's waterproof case, mounted to my cycle, very useful when I want to hear the GPS feedback!

I estimate that my 5 battery if giving me 10% better performance..

Also, Maps is working so much better on GPRs (2G) networks. Although maps under iOS6 had improved over the year since launch, I was finding it less that useless when roaming about in rural UK on 2G data networks. Yesterday I did a 40 mile bike ride in the Scottish Borders and Maps worked (for the first time since iOS6) reliably and smoothly... maps has become useful again! yey!

This update is not just a flashy new front end the development goes deeper than the skin, what a breath of fresh air!

iTunes Radio and Control Center made me forget everything about iOS6
:):apple:

I'm very unhappy with this new system, I only downloaded it because of all the buzz. Here's what I hate, small font, including clock, when I'm outside and running or riding my bike I can barely see the clock. I hate how when I open the screen all the apps move into place, I don't know why this annoys me so much, I think maybe because it makes it look chaotic. I don't like the new scrolling thing that you have to use when setting the alarm, etc., the area your finger has to touch seems extra small and difficult to use. I don't like how the unlock bar is invisible, it sometimes takes me 2-3 swipes to get it open. I hate to be a complainer, but I hope apple will improve all this stuff!

Will the issue with less battery life in iOS 7 become a bigger problem for folks?

As much as I love iOS 7, I will admit that the reduced battery life on my 5 is becoming a PITA. Although I was considering upgrading to the 5s when it was announced, I'm more inclined to upgrade now because of the fact that I always feel I need to have a lightning cable near me because my phone will die. I do admittedly use my phone a lot throughout the day (iMessage, Facebook, Twitter, email, web browsing). But where my 5 easily got through the days before on iOS 6, I need to charge it typically around 2-3pm now with it running iOS 7.

But other than that, I love everything else about the new OS.

Current online stats seem to say that around 60% of active iOS devices are running iOS 7. Any guesses as to when iOS 7 will outnumber iOS 6 use by 2-to-1 or more?
