It's fine on my 3. The only thing that is slow for some reason is changing the wallpaper in settings. Everything else seems to be just as smooth as 6.

I found that on my 3 as well (be interesting to hear of other folks saw this on different hardware). Change the wallpaper and it would freeze like it wasn't registering the input (although it was just in the process of doing so) for an uncomfortable number of seconds (at first I thought it might have crashed).

That was really the only thing for me as well.

The 3rd gen iPad isn't that much more powerful than iPad 2?????!

Umm, yes it is. Double cpu & quad gpu. That's a magnitude more powerful...

All very true but because of the increase in the number of pixels the display performance is only about the same as the iPad 2 (and was one of the reasons the 4 came out after 6 months) - so its a wise question to ask before updating, especially if you use/depend on an iPad 3 alot. Just a thought.

I got this email from out IT department at 11:15AM today:

"Dear Colleagues

FAO: iPhone & iPad Users

Further to Apple’s release of the latest IOS, version 7, please do not upgrade your devices.

We are in the process of validating that all configurations and applications work with the latest IOS offering. We will notify everyone on next steps once all testing has been completed.

Thanks for your patience.

LOL! I updated my phone at 1:15 PM EST yesterday afternoon, oops......:p

I wouldn't be surprised if a large number of those people would revert back to iOS 6. iOS 7 feels rushed, it's great in some ways, but horrible in other ways.

Edit: Some people don't agree with my comment. I'll make a thread about the flaws in iOS 7's design some day - just for you!

People were simply asking you to be specific. How, exactly, does it "feel rushed?" Obviously, it is not possible for you to say or you would have edited your original post or made a subsequent post with examples. Instead, you simply make a glib statement that you will "some day" post on this. Arguments without data / examples are generally meaningless.

I'm not sure how anyone can really negatively judge OS 7 within hours of updating. I for one like the new look and how it flows. The access to things like screen rotation lock and built in flashlight access are two of my favorites so far. If this is like prior updates I suspect I'll be finding useful additions and shortcuts for weeks.

I'm pretty sure the only significant difference between the A5 and the A5X was the 4x GPU to drive 4 times the pixels. So that would make them about the same in my book.

This man would not be happy.

The CPU portion of the SOC is the same between the iPad2 and iPad3, the GPU performance is basically a wash (4X the performance offset by 4X the pixels).

(The A5X did double the RAM on the A5 from 512K to 1GB).

So in terms of performance, the iPad2 and 3 are roughly the same, but the 3 of course is providing that same performance at 2048x1536 :)

The A6X is totally different story, as I imagine the A7X[?] will be :D

Translation:
I'm an IT guy, and I get to have new stuff before you. Nyaahh!

I am noticing the same thing, also I do not understand fully but my iPhone was kinda slow in the first hour of using the phone.

I did the restore and update and then restore from backup.

Now a few hours later the phone is performing faster and its not slow anymore.

The phone I am using is iPhone 4.

Ps: I still hate the Safari icon!

I'll try to remember to check back with you in a week or so to see how it's going on your iPhone 4. I'm still trying to decide whether to upgrade or not. You gave me some hope it won't be like iOS4 on the 3g :)

Is there really any point to complaining about iOS7 though? At the latest, we'll all be (forced) on it within a couple of months. Regardless of individual desires.

Developers will stop making apps for iOS6, the 5 series (legacy 5/s/c) will become the majority and there will be no updates for iOS6.

The only difference is when to make the jump.

I may not have understood what I read completely, but I believe that Apple is making it so developers can create both 32 bit and 64 bit apps with Xcode simultaneously. So, the 32 bit apps should run under iOS6 (as well as iOS7 on 4S and earlier). Also, Apple announced that they will support downloading of the last compatible version of an app if the current version of the app is incompatible for some reason. So, if someone really hates iOS7 they might be OK staying on 6.

But I agree with you that it's better to just bite the bullet and move rather than hold out and run the risk on not being able to get new cool apps or features because they aren't supported, or don't run well.

But for me, I am liking iOS7 very much so far.

Oh, the irony; you tell me to be more specific, and then you make a comment like this.

Why would I have to be specific about that? Be more specific. I just made a statement that I (as well as many others) feel like iOS 7 was rushed.

Really?!

You made a blanket comment with nothing to back it up. I simply asked you to back it up?
(I don't care what anyone else said, I'm asking you.)

AND I've seen comments where others have said iOS 7 feels rush, but they had the 'Forum' etiquette to back up their opinion.

The best thing you could do is upgrade now and wait for a jailbreak to change the icons. I got rid of my jailbreak to get IOS7 and I'm really not missing it all that much apart from a few tweaks.

Once again, no jailbreaking for me. Thank you and no, thank you.

Started to smile @ you having a dig at the ridiculous whiners.... got briefly confused whether actually serious... read the "I don't care how useful, only how it looks"... realized you MUST be having a go... didn't see the /s tag.... slightly confused again.

I actually mean that...I hated those icons...every single time I look at the phone equals to looking at these eyesores.

VTECH toys has better coloring schemes with the icons, which makes it even sadder...

Sarcasm not used.

It's our view because it hasn't always been this way. Certainly since you have been here since 2006, you must have seen the steady decline in the quality of the posts here. People used to complain about all the "fanboism" (I have even typing that term). But this is a "fan" site. However, you would never know it by the number of people who criticize every move Apple makes.

I don't know how Apple got to be the most valuable company/brand in the world when so many here can tell you how the company should have been run.

The iPhone 5c and 5S are going to be spectacular successes, because despite what people here think, Tim and company know exactly what they are doing.

A lot has changed since I was last on here. Reviewing a lot of the posts I wondered whether Macrumours had been hijacked by people who are fans of other platforms!

I do see the point you're making.

I regard the latest iPhone 5 releases and IOS 7 to be really great. While we will get far fewer features as time goes on in a mature smartphone market, I believe that the 5S spec a truly great. 64 bit computing in a hand held device is fantastic. What I'm really looking forward to learning is where the A7 was fabricated, Samsung or TSMC? While I would be disappointed if it was the former I'm hoping that it was the latter. Providing rivals some insight is not great business planning! While Tim has promised doubling down on leaks, if the move to TSMC was truly initiated early it would explain the knee jerk reaction from Samsung about their endeavours to move to 64bit and the potential sour taste in that they've essentially lost a big customer in Apple.

We'll know in the few days what the reality is.

Thanks.

The real question is, are these people satisfied?

The success of iOS 7 can't truely be determined until 3-6 months time. Will people regret their decision and sell their phones? Will people now be prepared to move to the competition?

I honestly think iOS 7's polarizing design will make it a flop, and what we are seeing is just the initial excitement of something new. Prepare for the backlash in the coming weeks and months.

The new dock in iOS 7 is ugly, especially on the iPad. It looks so bad that I have to wonder why no one with Apple spoke up and pointed this out before the update was released. It is also way too big. Combine that with the fact that user wallpaper photos are zoomed in so much that they look low resolution, and we have a serious problem.
Apple's iPad has gone from having a beautiful appearance to one that looks very low rent.
I suspect that Jony Ive has lost his creativity and that he may be so scary that Apple employees were afraid to tell him that the appearance of iOS 7 is hideous.
I have purchased all four iPads over the years and an iPhone 4 and 5. I am extremely disappointed with the look of iOS 7, and now I am looking at Android. Apple’s profit is going to drop because of its ugly iOS 7.

Just gotta say, I LOVE iTunes Radio. My only beef is that there's no Led Zeppelin, but it's really nice otherwise.

iOS 7's icons are a different story. The Music app icon is especially bad. They're all inconsistent. Jailbreak + Winterboard + iOS 6 theme, here I come. And no, I'm not going to get used to it. It's worse than Windows design-wise, and I'm not used to Windows even though I've used it so much.

Wife updated to iOS7. Immediately noticed the slower response on her iPhone 4. My daughter and I have 4S's so maybe it will be a bit better but both of us are waiting for some potential iOS7 optimizations down the road.

Got a chance to use it and I would say the functionality is better but the aesthetics are pretty bad. Wife hates the new dock. Just a blah color as she calls it.

This is very interesting. To maintain Apple's "leader" position, the opinions of the creative/design community is absolutely VITAL. If there ever comes a day when a lot of people agrees with your wife, it will be the point of no return for Apple.

Nowadays, the hardware are very similar amongst Android, Apple or even Microsoft/RIM. They all do basically the same things with roughly the same speed (I'm talking real-life time - not theoretical benchmark time).

The only points of difference left are look and feel (critical) and ecosystem (less so). You buy a Samsung or an Apple because of its interface and the impression you want to project to others. Apple is still viewed as the "prettier sister" now.

If people stop conceiving Apple as the leader in design, there is no reason to pay the extra cost for the same technology.

I updated my iPad to iOS7 within the first hour.

I will downgrade to 6 now, before Apple block the possibility.

Bland, watery inteface, Safari is close to unusuable to to the light grey colors, stupid changes for the sake of changing and no way to customize the interface to my liking.

Maybe time to look for another tablet provider than Apple.
