Bono hate is just hive mind mentality. Name any pop star that has done as much or more charity work as him, and you will come up with nothing.

Production guy on phone in picture, (maybe making a call to his wife/husband to say he's not going to be back in time for tea because they're doing re-takes?) no band, it's in Dublin.

And this means that U2 are in cahoots with Apple?
Please.

Think about it.

Apple don't need to partner up to sell the iPhone 6 - there's probably enough interest in what the new hardware will deliver.

U2 fans have been waiting for a new album for 3 years (or 5 years if you consider that No Line on the Horizon was released in 2009). Do you think that U2 need to generate interest this way? It's not 2004! Things have moved on.

No offence to the band but they could release a sheet of paper and it would sell. (I know, I know... Cue the "A sheet of paper would sound better" or " at least i could wipe my A*** with a sheet of paper" comments - but the fact is and like it or not U2 continue to release music that reaches millions and whether or not you think Bono is an idiot doesn't make a shred of difference.

As has been reported, this rumour is defunct anyway - and I think U2 are right to release a statement to distance themselves from this. And if they did turn up and sing a song, so what? Jobs always said that Apple was all about the music - why shouldn't the biggest tech company in the world want to work with the biggest media act in the world? It's how this kind of marketing/endorsement thing works.

I love all the "irrelevant" comments. Their last tour, you know, when they were so irrelevant was the largest grossing tour of all time. More than the Stones. More than Coldplay. More than Foo.

You are more irrelevant than U2 ever will be. I trust Apple.

Inflation

Ok, take the dollar number out of it...

According to Billboard.com, the final gross and attendance figures for the tour were the highest ever reported to the site.

So not only did they have the highest grossing tour of all time, it was the most attended tour of all time.... Again. (not)irrelevant.

I'm calling BS on the album being pre loaded on every phone. Record company isn't giving anything out for free and Apple wouldn't spend the $$$ to do this.

Look at what they did a few years back with Wynton Marsalis. He performed a couple of songs and did a iTunes related ad at one of their product launches and they had the music and videos on iTunes for free.

It won't be an album, but I could see them using US for an Ad and maybe performing a couple of new songs and Apple giving the songs/video out for free.

That can EASILY be done because Bono uses Apple to promote his RED non-profit organization to give people the illusion that he's actually doing something.

BS. Here's Forbes list of the top 30. http://www.forbes.com/sites/andersonantunes/2012/01/11/the-30-most-generous-celebrities/ Here's another and Bono isn't #1, he's #3 on the list. http://www.thedailybeast.com/galler...ies.html#2806b8ff-fdd3-400d-ab10-b0dfbaaccdd8

There are plenty of others that have their own charities, or donate to charities. When rich celebrities have tons of money, (especially) what their accountants and publicists tell them is they need a tax write off and some way to get more public attention to sell more albums or other stuff they are involved with.

I'm 100% certain you don't know what I can and can't tell the difference between. I'm also 100% mystified why you are so dismissive of CD audio (AIFF) when there are very few download services that offer uncompressed lossless audio and the ones that do have are woefully incomplete.

Yes, I'm old school and grew up on cassettes. When CD Audio came out it was like when HD video was demonstrated to the world for the first time. Maybe you would so back to SD video, I don't know. But that is basically what people are doing when they choose MP3/AAC over less compressed audio formats. Why is that so hard for you to comprehend? Do you embrace mediocrity that much to feel compelled to damn CDs?

Did the tinny earphones pop our of your ears when you blew a gasket reading my last post? LOL

I would be willing to bet that I could put a "lossless" recording and an 256KB digital compressed audio file in front of you, and you would not be able to tell the difference.

I really despise Bono.

I've been a big U2 fan over the years, and I can certainly understand that. But I have to say, the more I've learned about the man, the more I do respect him. He can be very, very, very obnoxious. He can be very overbearing. But the guy has and continues to dedicate a tremendous amount of effort to try and make the world a better place. Sometimes he misses the mark, and not everything he does on this front is perfect by a long shot, but the guy refuses to stop caring and trying and he's not unwilling to pivot when something doesn't work.

Also, as a performer, I have seen very few who are so utterly and completely giving of their all to the performance. I've seen him perform in some really awful circumstances where he was exhausted and panting between songs, but he still just kept going and pushing the whole show through. He's been exhausted after tremendous amounts of travel to perform or be at an event, and any other act would've dialed it in, but Bono never does that. I work in the music industry and have seen and interacted with tons of acts, and I really can't say the same about many others. U2 is as big as they are still after all these years largely because they have one of the most relentless frontmen around.

And lastly, he's also an incredibly humble and generous man when you interact with him in person. I know many people who have met him over the years, but I know one person who had a unique story after meeting him at a conference he appeared at, and he ended up hanging out with this person and other conference attendees all day. He even went to dinner with them that night like he was just any other guy, not at all with the attitude or presence that you'd expect from one of the most recognizable international celebrities. He got along with them well and just made the most of his time with other strangers like everyone else there. And none of these other people were even remotely close to celebrity status; they were just normal working class people, and he had no obligation or expectation to hang out with them. But he did, he wasn't at all showy about it, and each of the people that spent time with them that day couldn't believe how friendly, engaging, humble and flat out down to earth he was in such a simple setting.

Believe me, I get it, and plenty of other U2 fans do as well. Many of us quietly groan through some of what he says at shows too. But hard as it may be to take at times, if we had more celebrities in the world like Bono, it'd be a much, much better place.

Oh, and I don't think for a second U2's new album is shipping with iPhone 6. Come on. Maybe U2 will play the event and announce the album, but that's as far as it'd likely go. It'd be cool if this was a free download for iPhone 6 buyers though, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it.

This is the best news about the iPhone yet! I would say it's daring, but as most things Apple another phone company has already done this.

What if they are revealing a HQ music service in iTunes? After the Pono I would not be surprised if they release something similar in iTunes and they allow lossless music in the new iPhone / iPod...

Then U2 involved would make more sense than just for the iPhone 6 announcement :)

Perhaps they should call it 'The Bono'?
