I would have liked to see Apple handle split screen/multitasking through the OS, not the app developer. Especially on the 12.9, since there is the real estate. Then it wouldn't matter if app developers are slow.

Also, how do you guys handle searching for apps when in split screen? It seems like Apple dropped the ball on app searching, you have to scroll up and down looking for apps...

Interesting. What apps do you use that don't take advantage of it?

Optimum TV and XFinity TV just to name 2 that I use frequently. Both said updates were coming right after iOS 9 was released, but it never happened. I'll stop complaining once they are updated. Until then....

One app that is not in slide over than I'm rather curious about is Settings. Any reason why? It would make things like switching between wifi networks much easier.

I use the XFINITY TV app all the time. It has fully supported both Split View and Picture in Picture multitasking for quite some time now.

Ahh! That app won't work for me since it is my parents' account. I use the xfinity tv go app. I have cable vision at home and thus use the optimum tv app for tv at home. This one has not been updated for split screen, etc.

App searching sucks. I do wish they'd address that.

But the problem is that Apple couldn't handle split screen through just the OS, at least not without involving the developer on some level. The issue is laying out controls. Apple could have done some terrible hack. Or Apple could do what they did, which was to say "If you support auto-layout, you get this stuff for free. You are using auto-layout for your app, right?" But there were a lot of developers that didn't migrate to it. But it had been coming in via bits and pieces for many OS versions. iOS 8 basically capstoned it, and iOS 9 leveraged it for split-screen. But so long as a particular app assumes their canvas is exactly X pixels by Y pixels, the OS can't really cheat and make split screen work for that app.

I will say though, that form the perspective of the developer, our apps don't know if they are in split screen or not. The OS does really handle all of it, but the app still needs to be able to adapt to the size of the "window" changing.

I never owned 9.7-inch iPad Pro, but I owned iPad Air and iPad Air 2 (same screen size and resolution) and now I have 12.9-inch iPad Pro. In 1:1 ratio with split-view on bigger iPad Pro you have two FULL SIZED apps (imagine two iPads Air touching themselves), but on iPad Air (9.7-inch iPad Pro should works same) in 1:1 split-view are both apps squished.

I tried with split view and PiP and it's not working

Works fine for me... It was one of the first split view and PIP apps I started to use.

It's indeed odd to say the least that Apple updated some of their apps very late or still not like Settings, App Store, iBook store. You would think that they updated this ages ago together with one of their iOS app updates.

I use the Launcher widget via the Notification Center to quickly access e.g. WIFI networks, Bluetooth connections and Battery usage for apps but also KeePass Touch (passwords), write a new e-mail (Spark), create calendar appointment (WeekCalendar) to name a few but there are also other competitors (e.g. Magic Launcher) out there that can.
