I don't keep any music stored on my iPad. Heck, I don't keep much data at all. It's all in the cloud. I do occasionaly listen to music on it, but when I do it's Soundcloud.

Absolutely. I have all my playlists synchronized on my iPhone and iPad and use it very often for AirPlay.

As others have mentioned, look into iTunes match if you are concerned about music taking up space in your device.

If space is the problem, iTunes Match doesn't really solve the issue completely because it's not a true streaming service. Files are still downloaded to your device.

It depends. I do most of my headphone listening in bed before I go to sleep. For years, I used an iPod, and then I switched to my iPhone because I like the interface so much better. When I got my iPad, I switched to that for a while, because I thought it was cool seeing so much more information (and bigger album art) on screen. But I recently switched back to my iPhone, because the device is smaller, and my objective is to close my eyes and relax, not hold a big iPad. I have iTunes Match, so I have access to my entire music collection in either case. However, when I feel like watching music videos on YouTube, I use my iPad, because the screen is bigger.

I haven't put any music on mine. If I had, I would only have about 12GB left of the 64GB of memory, and since this is my 1st iPad I'm still figuring out what apps I want on it. Thus, I decided to just keep the music on my iPod Touch.

I really wished they had put out a 128GB option.

I put my entire library (6GB) on the iPad when I first set it up but this thread made me realize that I'll never, ever listen to music on it. Thanks for freeing up the space - just didn't dawn on me that I don't need it on there. All my music is on my phone and I rarely listen to that either - I love my Spotify

Same, I had my whole 10gb library on my iPad, always fighting for space for videos and apps. I deleted everything because I realized the only thing I used it for was air music (to stream music to my Xbox and play over my home theater) however now I just use aux in and my iPhone or iPod. :)

Dumb question from someone who is still deciding if I should get an iPad; can you listen to music in the background while surfing the web or reading e-mail?

Yes you can.

I use it for music sometimes. The MOG iPad app is fantastic and I usually stream it to one of the Aiplay devices around the house. I also have iTunes Match and just delete the songs fom the iPad when I am finished, although I mainly wanted Match for offsite storage in case of a disaster. For my own music, I prefer Audiotap.

I also use my iPhone in a similar manner.

Nope, not at all. I have the 64GB new iPad, and didn't like seeing less than half already consumed, when I have the same amount of music sitting in my iPhone right in my pocket. Why waste the iPad capacity? I'm all for consolidating gadgets as much as possible, but if I didn't leave something for my iPhone to be useful for, I wouldn't have been able to justify owning both an iPhone AND and iPad.

I have the Rhapsody app which recently updated to Higher quality streaming. I can listen to any song or album I want without taking up one bit of storage space on my iPad 3 16GB :)

I usually listen to music on my iPad when I'm surfing the net or doing something productive on it and I want to get in my zone but I'm somewhere with many distractions such as at a car shop getting my ride serviced or on an airplane or train. So, I plug in my noise chancellors, put on a playlist, and I'm set.

I said no before, but now I found Beatblaster and I'm going o dump more music on here for sure!!! Awesome app. And it's retina quality.

I store small bits of my music collection on my iPad because I find the interface so much more satisfactory than the 3.5" iPhone or iPod touch. But limited on storage capacity. On another matter, if you think iTunes Match is your solution, think again. It actually makes listening to music very patchy unless you have all your music stored on the device because if you are playing playlists, genres or genius mixes which don't have all the music stored on your device, Match will go looking for them, thus ruining the listening experience in my view. So I have Match, but once I am done taking my music from the cloud, I switch it off in settings to overcome said problem. There may be more sophisticated work-arounds and I am willing to listen....
