Square Up's card reader looks promising. As a business owner, i would love to have something like that (save some $), on the other side, i can see it as a threat, customers might think that it's a card skimmer.

Well, As a High Class dope dealer I see many reasons to get this. Many of my customers are high ranking political Figures and like to lurk in the shadows as they seek there next fix.

Will FloTV work with my iPad?

Seriously though... who names these things.

I Couldn't agree more about the horrible names. iPad and FloTV have to make it onto the top ten list of bad tech. names, especially if they start to promote that they work well together! But my number one all-time bad tech. name still has to be the "iSkin"! Huh, you skin what, Mr. Lector?

Wow, the Navigon app update looks great. Hopefully it's free. If so, my Garmin is going to the wife! :)

I'll wait 'til they make a telecommunication device that embraces the reservoir tip of a prophylactic so the men don't feel left out, too.

Until then, let me catch ya later on my MenstraSkype.

$149 for a cheap DVI adapter??!?!

$149 for a cheap DVI adapter???

How much do you think it costs them to make this cable? $5? $7?

Highway robbery at its best!

Just came back from MW. Fairly disappointing. Too many iPhone trinkets and not enough Mac. In its current form, not sure why businesses would want to come back.

But I hope that Apple realizes that they need this event as much as the organizers (or something similar). The Apple store does not cover the ecosystem, nor does it sustain the "community" that has given the Mac its near cult status.

I have the Square app installed, and my reader should arrive in the next 2 days. Set up was a breeze after adding the ad hoc software, and you can also key in the CC number, instead of using the reader, but they take 3.5% if you do, compared to the 2.5% by swiping it.

Being in a band, and having the ability to accept credit cards at the merchandise tables on the road, is huge. So many people don't want to spend their cash (beer money) on merch, this is game changer, and I'm really happy I received an early invite. I'll post a video when the reader arrives.

credit card payments on the iPhone? Best invention for escorts since sliced bread (oh and of course contraceptives).

Are you talking about mini-DP to HDMI-adapter? Um, it's a bit more than a simple adapter. It does audio as well. A normal adapter does not do audio.

Besides, the price ofthe product is not determined by how much it coststo make, but how much people are willing to pay for it.

The square thing looked really interesting. But i'm guessing its US only at the moment? seeing in Europe we use Chip & Pin, no one really uses the magnetic strip anymore. Get a chip reader version and it'd sell like hotcakes!

It's free (for those who have already purchased it). Version 1.5. The only thing in that description that you pay for (through inapp purchase) is the panorama 3d. I think it's $10 but not sure. Looking forward to the software learning my driving style. That should be interesting. Navigon has a facebook and flickr page where they've posted more info and screenshots.

LOL. Why would anyone rate this cool stuff as being negative.

I'm starting to surmise that a large number of die hard MS fans visit this site for similar reasons that a large number of left leaning liberals watch Fox News. All of them visit/watch because they love to hate / and a smaller portion of those hate that they love it.

Otherwise I would attribute it to mis-click syndrome .

Please buy the iV Plus and **** about pointless LED Flashes on the iPhone.

Thaaanks ;)

I hope Navigon finally removed the stupid 150mile restriction for simulations. It's kinda stupid and if TomTom can do it so can Navigon. Anyway I love Navigon and the update looks very promising.

the square credit card system is cool. i just hope there will be some regulation/oversight soon. there are a number of problems:
do you trust square with your data?
do you hand you credit card to anyone out there to read it?
how do you prove you did not buy something?
who is liable if that thing gets stolen or hacked?
who is liable if the buyer doesn't pay his credit/debit card or the credit card was stolen/faked?
-if square takes off we create another monopoly in the financial industry.
-2.9% is not a lot. but i can't imagine that amex and co will leave the price for the credit card service at 2.9% for long.

essentially this thing replaced cash and takes money out of government control. that is not good.

The Square card reader looks cool, but I could see some security issues arise as time goes on. Most credit card processing is a closed system right now and this opens things up. If a crook finds a credit card how easy will it be for them to just swipe and put money into their account? Sure it creates a trail to follow, but you know someone will figure out how to take money with this thing and not be caught.

With that said I think it looks cool, but I am just pointing out some issues that might come up. Credit card fraud is huge and this will open up new avenues for crooks.

EDIT: After a little more research it looks like they will be making an Android version as well so that is probably the reason they are using the headphone jack for their adapter and not the proprietary Apple connector.

Some pretty cool stuff. Looking forward to the Navigon update and a new iPhone that it will run smoother on (I got a 3G). :)
